Chapter Six

I reach Amity's house after about twenty minutes of walking. I knock on the door. I stand there for a couple of minutes, waiting for Amity.

Amity opens the door, her smile greeting me. "Hey." She opens the door wider for me to enter. Her wavy orange hair was pulled back into a messy bun. Her slender build looked weak in the bad lighting.

"How are you holding up?" Amity asks, her words are comforting to me. She's one of the only things in my life that has been turned upside down.

"I'm okay, I guess." I sigh as I take a step into Amity's house.

"Just okay?" She asks, her voice filled with worry.

I don't say anything. I was lost in thought. I was so angry. It kept every ounce in me to keep from screaming in frustration.

"How about I make us some tea and we go up to my room?" Amity offers, her green eyes watching my every move.

I nod. She takes off towards the kitchen. I shut the front door quietly and follow her to the kitchen.

I sat beside Amity on her queen sized bed. I held boiling hot tea in my hands, its steam swirling around and disappearing into thin air.

"You want to talk about it?" Amity asks.

"There's nothing to talk about. Because of me, my family has gone insane."

"That's not true," Amity places her hand on my shoulder. "Your Dad was the one who messed things up."

"For three months, Amity. He's been unfaithful for three months. Who knows? He may have had other girlfriends he's hooked up with in the past."

"Dani, I am so sorry." She says softly, and tries to pull me into a hug.

I resist her. I wasn't sad, or even upset. The only thing I felt was pure anger.

"I hate them. All of them. My dad, my mom, my sister."

"Don't say that, they love you!" Amity pleads.

"If my father really loved me, why would he cheat? Why would he be unfaithful? Why would he make my mother depressed and unhappy? Why would he make my sister hate me?" Tears flood to my eyes. I blink rapidly to try to make them disappear, along with my problems. Along with my family.

"I don't know Dani.." Amity sighs, her eyes beginning to water.

"I just want to sleep. I need rest." I set my tea down on the bedside table, and flop onto the bed.

"I'm pretty tired too. Goodnight, sleep well."

   "You too." I mumble.

I slept okay, but I woke up at four in the morning.

I laid on Amity's bed, staring up at the dark ceiling. I tried not to think about my problems, but they kept nagging at my brain.

There were constantly whispering in my head. So many voices, many of them I didn't recognize.

Unable to sit still any longer, I stand up and go into the bathroom. I turn on the light and stare at myself in the mirror.

My long brown hair was tangled and messy. My blue eyes were puffy, and my checks were a pinkish color. I looked drained, unhappy. There was not life left in my eyes.

I sighed, and rinsed my face off in the water. I brush my hair, and try to make myself look a little better.

I walk out of the bathroom and grab my stuff. I go over to Amity's desk and scribble on a sticky note:

"Hey, got up and couldn't sleep. Going home for the night. Thanks for your help -Dani."

I exit Amity's house as quietly as I could, careful not to make any noise.

The world around me was eerily silent. My thirty minute walk home was terrifying. Every noise I heard, I thought it was a demon. Every shadow I saw was someone trying to kill me. Maybe I was making all of it up, but it felt too real.

I open my front door carefully, not wanting to wake my family. I walk past the living room, seeing a lump laying on the couch. It was most likely my father. My mother must have kicked him out of the bed.

I climb the stairs and past my sister's room. I go into my room and set my stuff down.

My vision starts to get hazy, most likely from lack of sleep. I collapse onto my bed without a second thought.

I awoke to slim sunlight seeping through my clear curtains. The air in my room was brisk, and cold. I climb out of bed and shut the window. It was cloudy outside. It almost looked like snow was about to fall.

I glance over at my clock on my bedside table, and gasp. "9:30 already?" I ask. Wow, I sleep a long time.

I stop and listen. My house was silent. So eerily, creepily silent.

Are they giving each other the silent treatment now?

I go downstairs in the kitchen, but no one was there.

I enter the living room, where my father must have been sleeping last night. I saw his shoulder over the edge of the couch.

"Dad, hey I'm—" I stop. Red was seeping though the top of the couch.

I walk slowly to the front of the couch. I immediately start screaming.

There, lie my father, basking in his own blood. His head had been mauled. Clumps of his brain and his blood were splattered every where. His chest looked like something large had stabbed it. His clothes were soaked with his blood, almost completely covered in it.

I take off running upstairs, to my mothers room. "Mom!! Dad— He's not alive! He's been stabbed!" I shriek as I run over to her bed.

To my horror, my mother was found in almost the same way. Except, the rest of her body was sliced, all except her face. Her perfect, slender face was left. She looked so peaceful and calm.

I run to go and check on my sister, tears stinging my eyes.

"Lily... NO!" I run over to her. Her body was sliced terribly. But her skin was still warm.

I felt her pulse— She still had one! "Lily, please wake up! Please please please wake up!"

Lily's eyes fluttered for a moment. Her beautiful blue eyes stared up at me.

"Oh my gosh, Lily, please stay with me!" I shriek. Tears fall down my face.

She keeps looking at me, watching me. Her mouth opens, "......Monster...." She whispers. Her eyes close once more.

I shake her, trying to keep her alive. "Lily, please!" I yell. I run to my room, and grab my shattered phone.

I dial 911, so quickly. I don't remember what I told the lady on the other end. I was in such a state of shock. It was something like, "Murder," Or "Help."

My vision blurs with both tears and sickness. I look around. I slam my phone down, and frantically run back to my sister.

I notice something I didn't before. There, above Lily's body, was a word. Written in something I could only assume to be blood.

   "Hateful."

I gasp, and go back to my mother's room. On the wall, above her corpse, was another word.

   "Sad."

I go downstairs and check the walls near my father. Sure enough, written in blood was one last word.

   "Unfaithful."
