Twenty-Seven
-Jasper's Point of View-
. . .
I watched as Emmaline drove away, then panic set in.
I had no idea what I would do with Emmaline tonight on our date, more so, I promised that it would be something she's never done before.
I raced home and found Rosalie.
"I need your help."
"With what?" She asked boredly as she polished her nails with a baby pink color.
I sighed, "I asked Emmaline out on a date tonight, trouble is the last girl I took out on a date was Alice and she sort of decided everything so I'm a little out of swing with this sort of thing if you catch my drift."
She laughed lightly. "Alice did have a knack for organizing everything."
"Can you help me or not?" I asked a little impatiently.
"Well what sort of things does she like?"
I thought about it, "she likes watching movies and cheerleading."
"Anything else?" She asked, "I mean anything at all."
This time I closed my eyes and tried my hardest to remember her mentioning anything she liked, then an image of her at the party popped into my head, "This is my song." She stated as her smiling face filled my head.
"She likes to dance."
"Now that's something we can work with." Rosalie said as she got up. She grabbed her laptop and opened it, the screen lit up and she began typing away. "It seems like theirs some pretty decent dance places in neighboring towns."
"I don't want to take her to some dark nightclub or anything."
Rosalie rolled her eyes, "dance places like studios and halls, and I mean waltz, foxtrot, and swing dance not bump and grind."
I cleared my throat at the uneasiness of the topic.
"Oh lighten up Jazz." She smiled, she turned the laptop and showed me some of the places, I went through all of them before I picked the one I liked best. "Glad I could help."
I thanked her and then left.
"Hey."
I looked up and saw Edward sitting at the piano.
"Oh you composing again?" I asked, it's been years since Edward had written anything new.
"Just playing some of my favorites." He smirked, "I could go for a hunt."
I knew this was his way of telling me he needed to talk with me alone so I silently agreed and the two of us left the house.
We found a really good spot and I took down two coyotes and a large buck that would have easily been a trophy kill for your average hunter, while Edward chose to stick to just deer.
"How are you doing?" He asked calmly.
I gave him a look that said 'really' and he chuckled. "I'm finally going out with Emmaline tonight, how do you think I'm feeling?"
"Overwhelmed, nervous, doubtful."
He had hit the nail on the head.
"What if she doesn't have a good time, or worse, what if I can't control myself around her?"
He chuckled once more.
"From my experience, females like dates regardless of what we choose to do as the activity. While they like the time and effort put into our planning, most girls simply want our attention and affection." Edward explained, "And you will not lose control, I'm not sure how she does it but Emmaline has this sort of pull toward your more humane side that somehow overpowers your predatorial side giving you immense strength not to attack her."
I shrugged, "there's always so much on my mind that drinking from her is honestly the last thought on my mind."
He simply nodded.
I sighed, 'I wish Alice were here.'
"You've moved on from her." He stated as he heard my silent thought.
'How strange,' I suddenly realized that I wanted Alice to be here for her help and her advice on tonight, but not to come back to me romantically. 'I wonder, when did this happen?'
"It happened when you finally stopped pushing Emmaline away and allowed yourself the chance at love."
I couldn't help but wonder if she was the girl Alice had seen so long ago in her visions. "Is she the same girl?" I asked, "because I don't think I could tolerate opening myself up to her only to lose her as well."
It was the first time I had voiced one of my biggest concerns, He only smiled before he finally spoke. "I think, with a response like that, that you already have your answer."
I nodded, I felt so close to Emmaline, like I could truly be myself sound her, even in a way I never was with Alice. I knew I would be broken if anything were to happen to her or I lost her to mortality. Once more I found myself wishing for Alice's presence, then she could tell me if Emmaline would choose to be like us or choose to stay human. That would make everything so much easier as it would take my mind off of constantly wondering about it.
"You know she's back."
I looked up so quickly that if I were human my neck would be sore for days. "Alice, she's back in town?" I asked for clarification.
"She's back in the states, she's with the Denali's now."
"Can I go and see her?"
"Not now, you have to get ready for a date." He pointed out, I looked down at my watch and saw that it was already 8:25.
We ran back to the house and I found I had an outfit laid out for me, I knew it was one of the girls who had picked the outfit so I made a mental note to thank whoever chose it. Like most of my suits it was very well tailored, this one in particular was a smooth gray Tom Ford suit coupled with the proper "accessories."
After I got dressed I made one of my rare treks into the restroom and applied the product to my hair the way Alice had shown me so long ago before running a comb through it.
I decided that I would take liberties and combed my hair in a side-part pompadour, for one I've always liked the pompadour and it seems as if they're come back as most guys are wearing them now a days. I looked myself over, I didn't look too bad.
For some reason I was dreading going downstairs, I didn't want to parade through the house and have the girls and Esme coo over me, I've never been one for being the center of attention. so I collected myself and hoped that the coddling would be brief.
But to my surprise the house was empty, I knew I would have Edward to thank for that.
I got into my car and pulled out my cellphone, I sent Emmaline a text message informing her I was on my way before I took off.
I drove the required speed limits as I was growing anxious about tonight.
'What if this was a bad idea?'
'Maybe I should just call and say something came up.'
I shook my head, 'I am 170 years old I need to man up and just get this done so I can further my status with Emmaline. If I'm trying to sway her to become like us to be with me I need to show her what being with me is like.'
I slowly pulled up to her house and got off the car, I walked up her front porch steps and lightly pressed the door bell. her maid Marta answered.
"Good evening, I am here to pick up Miss Emmaline Harper for our date tonight."
The Hispanic woman smiled at me before nodding her head and letting me in. "I'm sure Miss Harper will be down shortly, shall I fetch her?"
But before I could answer Emmaline's room door opened and she stepped out, a vision in green.
She wore a floor length dress of a vibrant green made of a spectacular fabric that swished about effortlessly with every step she took, it gave her the appearance of gliding down the staircase. I couldn't help but smile as she approached me.
"You look lovely." It was the first thing I could muster as my brain seemed to be losing all functioning capabilities. in fact she looked better than lovely, more than gorgeous, Emmaline was the pure definition of perfection.
She smiled a sweet shy smile, pink coloring her cheeks.
"T-thank you." She sounded. "We should get going."
I nodded and gestured for her to go before me as I opened the front door and let her out.
"You kids have fun now." Marta called out as she closed the door behind us.
All I wanted to do was touch her, place my hand on her back, hold her tiny hand in mine, but instead nerves got the better of me and I just walked along side her as we approached the car. I opened the passenger door for her and did get to hold her hand briefly as i held my hand out to help her into the car. Once she had stepped in and made sure all of her dress was also in the car, I carefully closed the car door before jogging off to the drivers side, I got in and we left.

A/N:
For those of you who do not know what a mens pompadour hair style looks like even more so for this particular look I'm thinking of. There are pictures of Jackson Rathbone with the cut and style, simply go to google and type in: Jackson Rathbone holds his son. A handful of pictures of him wearing a blue check shirt holding a baby will pop up, that particular hairstyle is what I imagine him to have for his date and the remainder of this book, you'll see why.
