"I know you said you could improvise...but I don't think this is a great idea." Kei says as Selina claws at another goon before cartwheeling backwards towards the reporter.

"It's fine." Selina replied, looking a little breathless.

"Is it?" Kei asks, side eying the assassins that were left.

Way too many for two people to take on their own.

Selin sighs, clearly frustrated by this turn of events as the Talons come closer and closer.

"You know any fighting styles?" Selina asked Kei as they moved back to back.

"Uh...I took tae kwan doe in middle school."

"That'll work."

"You sure? I don't know about that...that's a lot of scary people with swords."

"This is Gotham, Kei. This is a normal occurrence!"

"I wouldn't know. Moved here from Central to earn my journalism degree. Shock of my life that was! Did I ever tell about the time Scarecrow gassed the campus lib—"

"Ugh! Less talking and more fighting!" Selina shouts at her as a Talon nearly misses The Cat's head.

Kei just nodded and did as she was told. They did pretty well all things considered, Kei could only do so much though and Selina eventually had to resort to her whip to come to their rescue.

"Kei!" She eventually shouts in between all the fighting and grunts of pain.

"What?!"

"When I say 'now' run!"

"Why?!" Selina smiles briefly as another Talon attempts to attack her. "Just watch." Kei glances down at one of Selina's clawed hands as it slashes onto an air duct nearby.

"NOW!" Selina shouts as smoke fills the air and the Talons are momentarily disoriented. Kei runs out of the room, Selina following close behind.

✩ ✩ ✩ ✩ ✩

Finally, after what felt like hours, Selina and Kei escaped from The Court's clutches. They both attempt to catch their breaths, sitting down by a wall.

"I can't believe The Court of Owls is actually real." Selina says in amazement.

"So nobody believes they're real? I just...find that really hard to believe."

"What makes you think that?" Selina asks incredulously.

"This city has a man dressed as a bat protecting them every night." Kei pointed out, deadpan and making Selina laugh.

"Fair." Selina admits and they lapse into a comfortable silence.

"We should leave before they find out we've disappeared." Selina suggests after a moment, standing up and offering her hand.

Kei nods silently, too wrapped up in thinking about how they were going to get out.

"We should probably go back to my apartment. I don't think they know where I live yet."

Selina nods in agreement.

"Ok. Sounds like a plan. Lead the way."

I was being stupid and confused, looking at the chapter title and thinking I had accidentally opened my PJO fic The Fight Of My Life😭

Does the air duct thing make sense? No, probably not but it sounded like a good idea in my head at the time so we're going for it :')

I'm hoping now that all the stuff for graduation is over (I graduated high school yesterday, May 31st, 2022🥳) that I can finally focus on my neglected fics now that summer is here.

Also pride month is the perfect month for these two to make a comeback :)

I'll see you all next week hopefully.
