Y/N POV

I was in my bedroom of the house we had just moved into, sleeping. While I was sleeping, the door to my room opened and I felt somebody jump onto my bed.

Katherine: Dad~. Time to wake up.

Y/N: *groans* Already?

Katherine: Yeah. Please get up.

Y/N: *Yawns* Alright.

I then rolled around and saw my Adopted daughter, Katherine.

Katherine: Morning dad.

Y/N: *small smile* Morning Katherine. How are you?

Katherine: *smiles and lays on top of Y/N* I'm doing great dad! I'm excited for school.

Y/N: Heh. Is that true? Well if that's true, why don't you go get dressed while I make breakfast?

Katherine: *smiles cutely* Okay dad!

Katherine then kissed my cheek before getting off of me and ran off to her room, making me happily sigh. Considering everything we've been through, it's amazing that's she is able to keep positive.

Flashback

I was sent into a building to find the rebels if they were hiding inside. After checking the stairs, I walked up the stairs and checked different rooms. I kicked one door in and heard and a little girl scream and cry. I immediately ran into the room and saw a girl with a ripped dressed, bleeding arms, and covered in dust next to people, one male and the other female, crushed underneath debris. After taking a moment to process the situation, I lowered my gun and got on my knees.

Y/N: Hey. It's okay. I'm not going to hurt you.

???: *crying* W-Who are you?

Y/N: *small smile* I'm Y/N Harper, US military. You can trust me. I don't want nor will I hurt you.

???: *looks at the male and female* Mommy... Daddy... please don't leave me!

I crawled over to the little girl and was going to sit next to her but a bullet almost hit her, making her fall and scream. I immediately grabbed her and made a run for cover while she cried. While I ran, I heard over my radio two words I dreaded the most.

Johnston: SHIT! RPG!

Before I could even react, The girl and I were knocked to the ground because of the blast. I immediately kept our heads down and made us crawl to safety. The girl complied, making it easier to find safety. When we go to "safety", the girl and I sat against a wall until my Squad mates could find us. She would stare at me the entire time, worried.

Parker: Y/N! Come in Y/N! Are you okay?!

Y/N: *picks up radio* I'm fine, but I got a little girl with me. I'm going to stay with her until I know it's safe. If high command has issues with that, tell them to shove it up their ass.

Parker: *chuckles* Will do. We'll come get you when we know it's safe. Stay where you are.

Y/N: Roger that, sir. Y/N out.

I then put my radio up and the girl continued to look at me, with curiosity or fear, I couldn't tell. However, I then heard her stomach growl and she looked to be sick.

Y/N: How long have you been there?

???: T-Three days? I don't know.

Y/N: I see. So you're hungry, huh?

???: Y-Yes.

I nodded my head and then pulled out a candy bar, catching the girl's attention. I then opened the wrapper and handed it to her.

Y/N: If they ask where you got it, say you were saving it.

???: Isn't it bad to lie?

Y/N: Not when you're in the military and you have a Candy bar that you're not supposed to have...

The girl giggled slightly and I pulled her close to me so she knew she was safe. She didn't fight me pulling her in close and we listened to the gun fight that was happening outside. However, a rebel soldier ran into the room we where in and I immediately drew my Colt 1911 and shot him in the head, making the girl look away and cry. I hugged her tightly.

Y/N: Stay here, keep your head down. I'll be back.

???: W-Wait please don't leave!

Y/N: Don't worry, I'm not going to leave you here. I'm just going to move that body so you don't have to look at it. Just close your eyes and you'll be fine.

???: I-I can deal with it. Please don't leave me!

Y/N: Alright then. Just keep your eyes closed then. You shouldn't have to look at what I'm looking at...

I watched as she nodded her head and she buried her head into my side so I put my arm around her and hugged her. After a few minutes, I heard a voice that gave me relief.

Parker: ALL CLEAR! MOVE OUT AND FIND Y/N AND THE GIRL! SOMEBODY GET THE MRAP!

I then threw a rock out the window and that caught Parker's attention.

Parker: WHO'S UP THERE! PUT YOUR HANDS UP OR-

Y/N: Shut the fuck up Parker. It's us.

Parker: Thank god. I'll be up there in a minute.

Y/N: Please. Take your time.

A few minutes later, Parker walked into the room and quickly carried the body away. Then, I walked outside of the building with the little girl behind me as well as Parker watching our back. We then got to the MRAP

We first let the girl inside but I then heard another one of our guys.

Mark: Hey guys! Got a POW!

We then looked and I saw that it was one of the enemy soldiers, but it wasn't one of the rebels, it was one of the Germans. When we looked to each other's eyes, I could see fear in his eyes because he knew who I was. I was INFAMOUS for hunting down German soldiers for one reason and one reason only: Revenge upon one woman.

German POW: *terrified* Oh Gott, rette mich...

Translation: *terrified* Oh god, save me...

Y/N: *GIF below* Gott kann dich nicht vor mir retten

Translation: God cannot save you from me

We then threw him into the MRAP with us and I was seated next to the girl with the POW seated right across from me, so I made sure he looked Death in the eyes the entire time, causing him to pray in fear the entire way.

Mark: So kid, what's your name?

???: M-My Name?

Mark: Yeah.

???: Katherine...

Johnston: That's a nice name.

Katherine: T-Thank you.

Katherine then looked at me but I didn't say anything. Instead, I pulled out a picture of a woman.

I then showed it to the German scum, causing him to panic.

Y/N: Sie kennen sie, nicht wahr?

Translation: You know her, don't you?

The German shook his head violently, telling me he was lying.

Y/N: Want to know something, German?

The German looked scared but nodded his head, deciding it would be a good idea. I then got in his face, putting my squad members in alert, but Parker told them to stand down and that he would interfere if something happened. The German was absolutely terrified, but I gave him a good look of the photo.

Y/N: you see those feet in the background? *German nods head in fear* Good... That's my family. She hung them all... and don't get me started on what she did to my baby brother... Because of her, *whispers into his ear* I'll hunt down the entire German army and I'll slaughter you all until I get my hands around her neck. After that, I'll hang her body in the town square of Berlin...*the German starts crying in fear* And when I'm done with that, I'll hang you and the rest of the German POWS like you right alongside with her...

I then sat down while the German cried in absolute terror. Katherine looked at me with a worried look on her face, but the ride back to base was quiet after that.

Present

I was then stopped thinking of the past and got dressed and walked downstairs and started cooking breakfast for us. Today, it was our favorite, bacon and eggs. After I finished cooking, I saw Katherine, jumping down the stairs, one step at a time, making me smile.

Y/N: Breakfast's done.

Katherine: Yea!

I then put our plates on the table and we sat down and ate.

Y/N: Now Katherine, since I'll be working long hours some nights, I won't be home all the time, okay?

Katherine: *sighs sadly* I know...

Y/N: Don't worry, those days will be rare. I promise.

Katherine smiled happily and we continued talking. Once she finished eating, she hugged me and ran outside with her backpack after I took a picture of her since she wanted a first day to school photo. After that, the bus arrived and she waved goodbye before running out to the bus. I watched as she got on the bus and she rode off. Once the bus was out sight, I sighed tiredly and pulled out the photo.

Y/N: When I find you... and when I kill you... I'll finally be able to relax and live a happy life...
