Chapter One

Susanna's POV

Today is Max and Madison's wedding. I'm excited. They are the perfect couple, they just go together. And I can't exactly complain about the dresses she chose for me and the bridesmaids.

I literally cried when she asked me to be her maid of honor, it was before my first tour with Anthem Lights so I didn't get to be here for much of the planning. Although, we did stack up plenty of hours on Skype. We were a happy teary eyed mess on the couch of the apartment and celebrated with ice cream and a chic flick/comedy marathon.

Later...

The wedding was absolutley breath taking. Madison chose grey and yellow as her colors, and it turned out to be so beautiful together. I was sporting a sunny yellow dress with a deep gray sash belt.

It's the reception now and there is a lemon shortbread cookie on the dessert table that is calling out my name. I have to answer that call.

"Well that's odd..." The words slip out in a whisper.

There's a girl behind the table and she stands frozen, staring at me with wide eyes. If I was to guess she's probably about sixteen years old. Her clothes aren't the newest, best, or cleanest, and her brown hair looks like it hasn't had a good wash in a while. "Hi. I haven't seen you around? Who are you?" I ask politely.

She looks at me with squinted eyes, then looks around. "I'm here with my grandpa. He's the caterer." She folds her arms across her chest and starts to walk away.

Uh oh. I was afraid of that. "That's interesting. Because that's the caterer." I point to Mrs. Melby, a lady in her mid-fifties with graying hair.

"Well... I.." She shifts her eyes back and forth. Then the next thing I know she's bolting. That girl has a problem, but what I don't rightly know. Time to follow.

L.A.'s POV

Too many questions. I hate questions. That woman back there in the sunshine yellow colored dress, she made me feel uncomfortable. She didn't seem mean or rude... of course no one usually does at the first encounter. It's after you get to know them that the truth comes out.

I keep running through the building. I turn my head to make sure the woman isn't after me. I smash right into a tall wall. I glance up. That's no wall at all. It's a dark haired man, probably about the age of the question woman back there. He has some of the bluest eyes I've ever seen. He smiles, he seems kind too. "Hi there. I'm Joey Stamper. What's your name? Are you here for Madison or Max? Or both?"

"Umm... Well I.. My name's L.A." I stop myself short before I say my last name. Living where I do, I don't need it, anyways. "I need to go now. Beautiful place though. Really." I pull away and fast walk out of the building doors.

Joey's POV

"Well that was strange..." I murmur.

"What was strange?" I hear a familiar female come up beside me. My precious and slightly goofy girlfriend, Susanna Stephens.

"A girl ran into me. She seemed like she was hiding something. I don't know there was just something..." I can't find the words to explain, but something... Well there's something going on.

"I met her too. If she was running, you are looking at the reason why. I spoke to her and spooked her." Susanna crosses her arms like she's cold. "Joey, I think she might be homeless."
