The kits were playing happily, running around and playing games, when suddenly, Nightkit, with Fawnkit, shadowkit, Yellowkit, rainkit, fernkit, skipkit and wingedkit trailing behind him, stumbled over next to the leaders den

They crouched down, their ears perked up as they listened to the leader and deputy's voices coming for inside

Nightkit mewed with excitement "this is our chance, we have to listen in!"

Fawnkit nodded her head in agreement, her eyes wide and bright. The other kits all crowded around, their ears angled to hear better

Inside the leaders den, the leader and deputy's voices could be faintly overheard, their words muffled by the barrier

"We have to sneak in to hear!" Yellowkit suggested, his tail flicking excitedly

Rainkit shook his head "no that's not a good idea!

Yellowkit rolled his eyes "well, I'm going, whether you come with me or not!" He turned and stalked into the leaders den

The other kits watched in surprise as Yellowkit confidently stalked into the leaders den. They exchanged uncertain glances, wondering if they should follow him

Shadowkit meowed softly "well, he's already in there. No use in leaving him alone...we might as well go in too"

Rainkit sighed, but nodded in agreement. The rest of the kits followed shadowkit as they crept in

They all crept into the leader's den as quietly as they could, hoping not to get caught. They took a spot near Yellowkit where they could hear the conversation

Inside the den, the leader's and the deputy's voices could be heard more clearly now

The deputy huffed in slight disbelief "You really think they're ready to become apprentices tomorrow?"

The leader nodded calmly "yes, they are all six moons now. Are you really questioning your leader? I think that fawnkit, shadowkit, nightkit, wingedkit, Rainkit, Yellowkit, Skipkit and fernkit are perfectly ready to get mentors, and be apprenticed."

The kits' eyes widened as they heard the conversation, their excitement growing. They looked between each other, grins on their faces, hearing the news that they would be apprenticed tommorow. They began whispering to themselves, their voices excited and hushed.

Nightkit exclaimed with a mew "did you hear that?! We're actually becoming apprenticed tommorow!"

shadowkit clawed the ground, anticipation clawing at his fur "were gonna be apprentices!"

Fawnkit and Rainkit were grinning widely as well, their tails flickering

Rainkit mewed "I can't believe it! We're gonna be actual apprentices!"

Fernkit, Wingedkit, Skipkit, and Yellowkit also looked just as excited, their eyes wide with anticipation

Skipkit spoke up "I can't wait! I wonder which mentor I'll have!"

Nightkit meowed a little louder "I hope none of us gets Sandrunner! That mangy piece of foxdung got us in trouble!"

The rest of the kits nodded in agreement, their expressions expressing distaste at the mention of Sandrunner

Shadowkit hissed "she's a pain. I hope I don't get her as a mentor, it would ruin my whole apprenticeship!"

Fawnkit curled her lip in disgust "definitely. We deserve only the best mentors, not that awful, thieving fox-heart"

The kits continued to whisper excitedly, discussing which mentors they hoped to get and which of the clans warriors they thought would be the best choice.

Fernkit meowed in interest "what do you think the ceremony will be like tomorrow?"

Rainkit huffed "I don't really care. I just hope it's not boring."

Shadowkits mew was eccentric "boring" it's always the same! And now I hope starclan hears and approves my choice your mentor will be dirtplacewing!" He giggled, mocking the ceremony

The kits snickered at Shadowkit's mockery of the ceremony, finding it humorous. Fawnkit chimed in, grinning "yeah, I hope StarClan doesn't have terrible taste in mentors this time!"

Rainkit laughed "I swear, if we got the most boring of mentors, I'd claw starclan's ears off"

Yellowkit added "yeah, we deserve the coolest and strongest mentors!"

The chatter continued, the kits discussing the upcoming ceremony and expressing their hopes for the best warriors as mentors

Fernkit meowed eagerly "I hope we get a mentor who will teach us all kinds of exciting skills and tactics!"

Wingedkit agreed enthusiastically "yes, I don't want a mentor who just does boring patrol work all the time"

Skipkit's eyes gleamed with enthusiasm "I want a mentor who's undefeated in battle!"

The kits continued to imagine their perfect mentors, their hopes and expectations heightening as they talked

Nightkit huffed "I'm not taking a mentor who's a pushover. I want a mentor who will push me to be the best warrior ever."

Shadowkit nodded "yeah, we don't want some soft-paw as a mentor"

Fawnkit's eyes gleamed "imagine if we get a mentor who's as strong as starclan itself!"

Nightkit looked around, seeing the deputy and leader stand up "oh no their leaving there dens, hurry, stalk back over to the fresh kill pile!"

The kits quickly realized the deputy and leader were heading out of their dens. Immediately they remembered they weren't supposed to be in the leaders den. They all quickly scampered back towards the fresh kill pile, just in time to pretend that they had been there the entire time, hoping the warriors wouldn't notice they had been sneaking around

Shadowkit noticed Sandrunner glaring at them and hissed "foxdung! I think the foxdung caught us!"

Nightkit flicked his ears "just act as if your taking something to eat!"

Yellowkit picked up a lizard and stalked to a corner, flicking his tail to come over and share, shadowkit and the others padded over, sitting by him. "Do you think she'll tell?" Fawnkit mewed worriedly

Yellowkit hissed "and ruin our ceremony!? She better not!"

The kits sat and pretended to eat, casting nervous glances toward Sandrunner, fearing that she would snitch and ruin their exciting day

Nightkit mewled quietly "we just have to hope she doesn't say anything"

shadowkit meowed under his breath "imagine if she ruined the whole ceremony tomorrow with her stinking muzzle" he flicked his tail "that'd be a disgrace"

Rainkit and fawnkit exchanged nervous glances, and pretended to eat "I guess we'll have to wait and see...."
