Chapter 6
The mansion Ethan was living in was quiet huge. So five people and one dog living in it kept it lively. He was glad that he let the caretaker and his siblings live there with them. It made taking care of the mansion easy. The huge garden that was in front of it, however, was a different story. There was nothing there except for a wooden shed. No flower bushes, No trees. Nothing. The grass was dried up. It was like an open field surrounded by thick wooden fence. It looked so dead. So Ethan decided to bring back some life to the garden.
Since he was a child, Ethan loved gardening. It was his dream to become a gardener as he loved taking care of plants and trees. But then life happened and he became a doctor. Now that he had left his job, he can focus on his passion again. So that's what he was doing right now. On the first week of him staying in the mansion, he decided to take care of his garden. He had planted few flower plants that he bought from the plant nursery, beside the dirtway to their house. He had also planted climbing hydrangea along the fence. So the garden looked a little bit presentable since the day he had moved in. But there was still a lot to do. So right now, with his hair tied back in a bun and wearing his old, washed out button up shirt, an apron and sweatpants, Ethan was planting seeds in the flower bed with Aiden sitting by his side, helping him as Zoomie or Prince ran around in the yard. As Ethan was planting seeds, he noticed a small figure standing by the doorway, staring at them.
"Jenna?," Ethan called out.
Jenna jumped a little but stayed right where she was. She wanted to know what Ethan was doing as it looked interesting. But what if he became annoyed of her presence? But Ethan was so sweet and so gentle with her. He always talked with her, a loving smile always playing on his face. His demeanor was so calm. But what if it was all fake? But it did not feel fake. And Prince loved him so Jenna loved him too.
"Jenna, come here," Ethan called her again.
Jenna shyly went to Ethan. When she reached him, he asked, "What were you doing standing there alone?"
"I was watching what you were doing. What were you doing?," Jenna asked while looking at Ethan from under her eyelashes, fidgeting where she was standing.
"Well, I was planting some seeds from which beautiful and colourful flowers would bloom out," answered Ethan.
Jenna perked up at that. She asked, "Beautiful, colourful flowers?"
Ethan nodded.
Jenna looked at the flower bed longingly.
Ethan noticed that. "Do you want to join us?," he offered.
Hearing that, Jenna excitedly asked, "Can I?"
"If you want to."
"I want to."
"Ok. Wait here for a moment," said Ethan and went to the shed followed by Aiden, before disappearing inside. When he and his brother came out, Jenna could see that Ethan was holding something in his hand. As he neared, it became clear what he was holding was a big pair of gloves and an apron.
When Ethan reached Jenna, he knelt down in front of her and said, "I don't have cute gloves or apron for you. But if you really want to help us, you have to wear these so that your hands and clothes don't get dirty, ok."
"Okay," Jenna nodded excitedly.
"Okay. Let's get you dressed."
Once Jenna was dressed for the task, the trio began their activity. Ethan explained the process of gardening in a way that it would be interesting for their six year old companion. Soon Jenna was planting her own seed with a little direction from Ethan.
That's how Mason found Jenna, sitting beside Ethan, planting seeds and getting all dirty. He had been looking for her everywhere. Jeffrey was out with his friends and he himself was busy all day. He knew Jenna would be bored out of her mind. So, once he was done with his work, he started looking for her to spend some time with her. But he could find her nowhere. Now that he had found her, he couldn't help but admire the scene in front of him. It was so wholesome that Mason did not want to interrupt. So he left quietly.

Maria and Victoria were standing near the window with Maria leaning her head on Victoria's shoulder, looking at the scene that was playing out in front of them. Jenna looked so happy with Ethan and Aiden. George was there too, happy to see his son doing what he loved the most.
A sudden chill ran down George's spine. He looked around but found nothing out of ordinary. He shrugged it off before looking back at the happy scene in front of him. None of the three ghost noticed how Ethan's posture became rigid and how his smile became forced.
