2. The Rescue

Chapter 2: The Rescue

The rain began to fall in sheets, soaking the city streets in moments. Y/N hurried through the downpour, her heart still racing from the events of the night before. She had barely slept, haunted by the intense gaze of the man she had seen in the alley. The memory of his dark eyes, filled with danger and intrigue, kept replaying in her mind.

Who was he?

She tried to shake off the thoughts, tried to tell herself that it didn’t matter. She was just an ordinary girl who had accidentally witnessed something she shouldn’t have. It was better to forget, to move on, and pretend none of it had ever happened.

But deep down, she knew it wasn’t that simple.

The streets were unusually quiet, and the oppressive weight of the storm made the city feel deserted. Y/N’s feet splashed through the puddles, her breath coming out in puffs of steam as the cold air nipped at her skin. She pulled the hood of her jacket up, quickening her pace as she approached her apartment.

That’s when she noticed them.

Three men, standing just across the street from her building, their faces obscured by shadows and the heavy rain. They were watching her—she could feel their eyes tracking her every move. A wave of unease rolled through her, and Y/N’s steps faltered, her instincts screaming that something wasn’t right.

She glanced around, hoping to see someone—anyone—but the street was empty. The hairs on the back of her neck stood on end as one of the men took a step toward her, his movements deliberate, predatory.

Panic surged through her, and without thinking, Y/N turned and ran.

Her footsteps pounded against the wet pavement, her breath coming in frantic gasps. She could hear them behi
nd her, their heavy boots splashing in the puddles as they gave chase. Fear gripped her chest, tightening with every passing second. She didn’t know where to go, didn’t know if she could outrun them. Her apartment was too far now. She could feel them getting closer, hear their voices muttering to each other, a sickening eagerness in their tone.

Y/N rounded a corner, her heart racing, and ducked into an alley, hoping to lose them in the maze of narrow streets. But the moment she turned the corner, she skidded to a halt.

It was a dead end.

“No…” she whispered, her voice trembling as her eyes darted around, searching for an escape.

But there was none.

She was trapped.

The sound of footsteps grew louder, closer, until the three men appeared at the mouth of the alley, grinning as they closed in on her. Y/N backed up against the wall, her pulse roaring in her ears as they advanced. The leader—a tall man with a scar slashing across his face—smirked, his eyes gleaming with cruel satisfaction.

“You shouldn’t have seen what you saw,” he growled, his voice low and menacing. “Now, we have to deal with you.”

Y/N’s chest tightened with fear, her hands trembling as she pressed her back against the cold brick wall. She tried to think, tried to find a way out, but her mind was clouded with terror. She opened her mouth to scream, but the sound died in her throat as the man lunged forward, his hand reaching out to grab her.

And then, everything happened at once.

A blur of motion, faster than her eyes could track, and suddenly, the man was yanked backward with a violent force. Y/N gasped, her eyes widening in shock as she saw him thrown to the ground, a dark figure standing over him.

It was Jungkook.

His face was partially hidden by the shadows, but there was no mistaking the lethal grace in his movements or the deadly glint in his eyes. He moved like a predator—silent, efficient, and terrifyingly powerful.

Before the man could react, Jungkook delivered a swift, brutal kick to his ribs, sending him sprawling across the wet pavement. The other two men rushed forward, but Jungkook was faster. He grabbed the first man by the collar, slamming him against the wall with a force that made the bricks tremble.

The man let out a choked gasp, his eyes wide with fear. “W-wait—”

Jungkook didn’t wait.

With a single, well-aimed punch, he knocked the man unconscious, letting his body slump to the ground. The third man hesitated, fear flashing in his eyes as he glanced between Jungkook and his fallen comrades. He took a step back, clearly reconsidering his odds.

“Leave,” Jungkook growled, his voice low and dangerous, “if you want to keep breathing.”

The man didn’t need to be told twice. He turned and bolted, disappearing into the rain-soaked streets without looking back.

Y/N stood frozen, her back still pressed against the wall, her breath coming in shallow gasps. Her mind was spinning, trying to process what had just happened. One moment, she had been trapped, terrified and certain she was about to be taken. And now…

Jungkook.

The man from the alley. The one who had warned her to stay away, to go home.

He had saved her.

Jungkook turned toward her, his eyes locking onto hers. For a moment, neither of them spoke. The air between them crackled with tension, the rain still pouring down around them. His dark hair was slicked back from the rain, droplets clinging to his skin, and his chest rose and fell with the controlled breath of someone who had been in a fight but hadn’t broken a sweat.

“Are you okay?” Jungkook asked, his voice quieter now, but still carrying that edge of authority.

Y/N opened her mouth to respond, but no words came out. Her legs felt like jelly, and her heart was still racing from the fear and adrenaline. She could only nod, her eyes wide as she stared at him.

Jungkook took a step closer, his gaze softening ever so slightly as he looked her over, checking for any signs of injury. “Did they hurt you?”

Y/N shook her head, her voice finally returning in a shaky whisper. “No, they didn’t…”

Jungkook’s jaw tightened, his eyes flicking toward the unconscious men on the ground before returning to her. “You need to be more careful,” he said, his tone clipped, though there was a hint of concern buried beneath the surface. “This city isn’t safe for someone like you.”

Y/N swallowed hard, still trying to catch her breath. “Someone like me?” she repeated, her voice small.

Jungkook’s eyes darkened, and for a moment, Y/N thought she saw something flicker in his expression—something like regret, or maybe frustration. But it was gone as quickly as it had appeared.

“You don’t belong in this world,” he said quietly, almost to himself. “Not with people like them.” His gaze shifted to the men lying on the ground, then back to her. “Not with people like me.”

Y/N felt a lump rise in her throat, but before she could respond, Jungkook took another step toward her. His hand, cold from the rain, brushed against her arm, and Y/N shivered—not from the cold, but from the electric current that shot through her at his touch.

“I warned you before,” Jungkook murmured, his voice low and intense. “Curiosity will get you hurt. Or worse.”

Y/N’s heart fluttered in her chest as his words sank in. She knew he was right—knew that she had no business getting involved with whatever dangerous world he lived in. But something about him, about the way he moved, the way he looked at her, made it impossible for her to walk away.

“I didn’t… I didn’t mean to get involved,” Y/N whispered, her voice barely audible over the rain. “I was just—”

“You were in the wrong place at the wrong time,” Jungkook finished for her, his eyes narrowing slightly. “And now you’re stuck in the middle of something you don’t understand.”

Y/N bit her lip, her mind racing. She didn’t understand. She didn’t know who these men were or why they had been after her. But one thing was clear: Jungkook had just saved her life. And even though she barely knew him, she felt an inexplicable pull toward him—an attraction she couldn’t deny, no matter how dangerous he was.

Jungkook seemed to sense her inner turmoil. His gaze softened, and for the briefest moment, Y/N thought she saw a hint of vulnerability in his expression. But it was gone in an instant, replaced by the cold, impenetrable mask he wore so well.

“You need to go home,” he said, his voice firm. “Now.”

Y/N nodded slowly, though she wasn’t sure if she was more afraid of the men who had chased her or the man standing in front of her.

Without another word, Jungkook turned and walked away, disappearing into the shadows once again, leaving Y/N alone in the alley with the rain pouring down around her.
