When Travis came back up, people immediately looked to Aphmau to go next but, she was actually growing more and more nervous as time went on. She wasn't nervous of Garroth hurting her or the possibility of hurting him if it came to it but, confronting him. What the hell do you say to someone when they've been gone for ten years? This isn't some high school or family reunion where you haven't seen some of the people in that amount of time. Garroth was literally thought to be dead and unfortunately, went through what seemed to be worse. When Travis handed her the tranquilizer gun, her heart rate immediately picked up.
Laurance seemed to have noticed and offered;
"Let me go with her. I think it's better if we see him together."
"Why is that?", Elizabeth asked, raising an eyebrow.
"We both have the same things to tell him and...and it might be a way to test to see if more than one person bothers him,", He explained, grasping for straws. He mainly just didn't want her to go without support. Elizabeth hesitated but, agreed to do it.
"You have the same amount of time though, so make it quick,", She huffed, shifting her hair out of her face. "The same protocol and the only reason I'm agreeing to it is because Laurance has self-defense training. So, please, be careful."
The two than left the room, going down to the cells. Aphmau reached over and grabbed Laurance's hand, squeezing it slightly. Laurance looked down at her and gave her an empathetic look. He hasn't told her all the details of the video that he saw. He knew she wouldn't be able to take it. He barely could.
"Are you okay?", He asked, stopping them outside the door.
"Y-Yeah...just nervous,", She said, her voice shaking a bit. "I just hope he's...I don't know. Okay? Not upset?"
Laurance smiled and said; "Everything's going to be okay. If you need anything though, I got your back."
He then kissed the top of her hand and opened the door, nodding towards Lucinda before heading in. Garroth was in his cell, sitting crossed-leg on the floor to try to keep calm. He knew who was going to be down but, he didn't realize that the two were going to be there when he opened his eyes. He immediately stood up, causing the couple to get excited. Aphmau let go of Laurance's hand and rushed towards the cell, tears coming to her eyes. Garroth, seeing that Aphmau was smiling from ear to ear, smiled back. The shield came down and Aphmau jumped at him, wrapping her arms around him so tightly that Garroth felt like he could not breath. He noticed immediately from the hug that she hadn't grown a bit. She was still 4'11" like he remembered and her head was just at his chest. He returned the hug as he felt her tears hit his shirt.
"You're so stupid...", She mumbled, clinging on the fabric.
"I-I'm sorry,", He stuttered, tears starting to come himself. He looked up and saw Laurance just staring at him. He smiled at him, above to say something but, was interrupted by Laurance joining in the hug as well.
"Don't be sorry,", Laurance said, his throat tight. "You have nothing to apologize for..."
The three of them just stood there, enjoying the hug. It felt like only a few seconds but, in reality, it was three minutes. When Garroth parted from the two, he finally got a good look at the two. Laurance was about his height, his hair slightly shorter and darker than he last saw him. His eyes were the same shade of baby blue and he noticed a small scar on his lip. Aphmau's hair was now cut to her shoulders, replacing her purple hoodie for a lilac button up and black skirt. Her glasses were still on her nose. What stood out though to him were rings on their left hands. A wave of joy hit his chest, seeing that they tied the knot.
"A-Am I r-right to assume that you two are-", He began to ask but, Laurance answered for him saying gently; "Yeah bud...yeah we are."
"You don't know?", Aphmau asked, remembering the basic details of the video that Laurance described to her.
"Did I receive invitation?", Garroth joked, mildly confused. The couple just looked at each other, shocked that he didn't remember. The blonde did shortly though come to the conclusion that they might've known a detail that he couldn't recall. So, he explained; "...It's all a little blurry, if that's what your wondering."
Part of Laurance was relieved but, he also worried that maybe Garroth would get worse as more memories of what happened to him came to mind. He mentally noted not to bring it up right now, leaving it for another time.
"So, what are you two doing now?", Garroth asked, changing the topic for them.
Aphmau started by saying; "I'm the assistance to Elizabeth Washer, the boss of this whole operation here."
"And I'm a Agent for the S.T.F,", Laurance added. "So is Blaze but, heh, he's a bit higher up than me."
Garroth blinked, not really catching the acronym. "So...that's where I am? What does it stand for exactly?"
The two laughed while answering; "The Superhero Training Force."
"It's a little confusing since...well...there's one superhero here,", Aphmau giggled. "So we just call it by it's acronym."
"Oh,", Garroth crossed his arms and said; "Very impressive though."
"Thanks!", Aphmau said cheerfully.
Laurance seemed to frown, which caught Garroth's attention. "Hey...are you okay?"
"Y-Yeah...I'm just really glad you're here,", Laurance awkwardly said.
Garroth bit his lip, knowing there was something else. He walked up to him and asked; "Is there something else?"
Laurance smirked and said; "Geez, already back to your old self. Why don't you take a break?"
"I did,", Garroth chuckled. "Sorry it took so long but, I'm here now. So, please, is there something you want to tell me?"
He saw tears start to brim Laurance's eyes before the brunette tried to blink them away. Aphmau placed her hand on his shoulder, supporting him in the end. Laurance, slightly embarrassed but, knowing he needed to address this;
"Why did you push me out of the way?"
Garroth went wide eyed, so did Aphmau, staring up at her husband. She knew that he was bothered about Garroth's death but, she didn't know how badly he analyzed that event. The blonde gulped, trying to find words that were honestly pretty easy to come up with.
"Because, I didn't want you to get hurt."
"So you thought that having yourself get hurt was a better option?", Laurance demanded, now just letting the water fall. "You should've left me there and save yourself! I was the one who caused that fire! I was the one who took you away from safety in the first place! Why did you have to be the hero? Why couldn't you be selfish? You could've been the one living your life instead of being in some cage somewhere for a decade! Now it's my fault that you're now trapped with some-"
"Laurance stop,", Aphmau spat, gripping him by the shoulder to snap back into reality. "We shouldn't be upsetting him."
"No...Aph it's okay,", Garroth assured her, a deep frown on his face. He looked back at Laurance and said; "Laurance you didn't deserve what happened to me either. As much as you might blame yourself for this, it was my decision to push you forward. I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if something happened to you. So maybe I was being selfish. I don't know what you've been through mentally after that incident but, please know...that if you were the one who was left behind, I would not be living the same life you have right now." He went up to him and placed his hands on Laurance's shoulders to make sure he listened to this last part carefully. "Now I'm happy Laurance. I may not be out of this mess that I put myself in yet but, I'm so so happy that you were able to live the life that you were meant to have. I don't blame you for anything so please don't be angry at yourself."
The blonde than hugged the brunette tightly, Laurance frozen by what Garroth just said. A weight that had been dragging him down for years, getting heavier every day, was now off his shoulders. He felt lighter. Just by a few words. With shaking hands, he gripped the back of Garroth's zip-up, now sobbing into his shoulders. He knew that he looked like a baby right now but, he didn't care. He finally felt free. Aphmau was smiling brightly, watching the scene in front of her. It was sort of humorous seeing two grown men hug it out but, she loved it nonetheless. She slipped into the hug again, the two smiling down at her as she did.
"We're gonna help you now Gar...we promise,", She said. "Whether you like it or not."
