AYUMI

Satoshi swung my watch-timer back and forth, back and forth. He smiled, taking his time approaching me. I crossed my arms, taking a step back. "I'm very disappointed in you, Ayumi," he eventually said, staring at me. "Very disappointed, indeed. Lying and sending my own sister to the devil's domain!" I clenched my fists, glaring at him.

"Devil's domain?!" I repeated in disbelief. "If anything, this is the devil's domain! I sent her to Heaven!" He arched an eyebrow. "She didn't want this," I continued, innocently widening my eyes. "You scared her by corrupting her. You stripped down her will to fight back and fly back to her home. Your home," I added.

"Shut it!" he exclaimed, shoving a hand inside his pocket and yanking out a knife. "Do not speak of my home! This is my home, and it will forever be! Now that I mention it, mention nothing of my family, either!" he snarled threateningly, motioning the knife towards me. "Or else." I took a deep breath, and stepped towards him. This was nothing like the Satoshi I first met. The Satoshi Mochida Imet was kind, loving, caring, smart, noble, and, well, alive. Now, my old love was cruel, threatening, kill-loving, stern, and dead. A tear slipped down my cheek. I angrily wiped it away. I can't reopen old wounds, and this is not the time to be weak.

"Satoshi," I tried, "please listen to me. You are miserable. I know you wished none of us to die. You died for Naomi, even if it was an accident in the system. You gave your Sachiko paper scrap to her, since she lost hers. So, I ask you now--"

"No! Don't ask me at all!" he exclaimed, rearing back and drawing up to his full height, his eyes shining with madness. "No! No, no, no. I will not allow you to lie to me like you lied to the others!" In fact, this made me angry. I'm not sure why, it just did.

"How can you know I wasn't telling the truth?" I challenged him, stamping my foot on the ground firmly. "Everyone else may be living beautifully right now. Everyone except you. Depressing Satoshi. Being a good little boy to Sachiko, aren't you?" I sneered. He quivered with anger.

"Sachiko will never return! This place goes by my rules!" Satoshi shouted, gripping his knife tightly.

"Heh, yeah, no. This place will burn to the ground, and I will save the world!" I yelled, and I felt, deep in my soul, a match had started. As if on cue, warmness spread across my body, making my feet and fingertips tingle. My cheeks began to burn, though not with embarrassment. I was unleashing the hidden flame inside me. Unleashing a war cry, I rose into the sky, my hair turning orange, my body engulfed in fire. I heard Satoshi scream in fear.

"You'll never finish me off in time!" Satoshi screeched in triumph, pointing at the watch dangling from his wrist. I almost choked on my own spit when the time read: 1:00. One minute?! How can I ensure he be appealed in one minute? I'll be okay... everything will be okay, I reassure myself, but doubt still lingers. The question is what if? What if I don't appease him in time? What if Satoshi will kill me? I raised my hands, heat becoming more intense by the millisecond.

This is the rest I remember:

"I only need one second!" I shouted, and dived at him. He shrieked and fell to the ground, my burning hands trapping him. He frantically squirmed about, trying to free himself, but to no avail. "ANSWER ME WHEN I ASK YOU, WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY?" I roared, my fiery hair only an inch above his face, ready to burn him to nothing.

"I'm not telling you anything!" he whimpered, so I had no choice but to burn his hand away. Light blue specks swirled away, and melted with a few cracks and pops of flame.

"I'm not repeating myself," I snarled in his face. "I can do so much more, trust me."

"F-fine!" His head drooped. The time read 0:30.

"Everyone I care about," he answered softly, his eyes glassing over. "Yuka. Naomi. All my friends and family. Everyone I care about, happy and ignorant of sadness. That's what makes me truly happy."

"Then go towards the light, Satoshi," I advise him quietly, eyeing the timer anxiously. 0:20.

"I'm trying!" he wailed, a little sphere of light appearing.

"Try harder!" I urged him. 0:15.

"Naomi...? Yuka...?" Satoshi murmured, his body going limp... slowly, slowly... Come on! I screamed inside my head. The little circle of light grew larger. 0:10. Ten seconds! Satoshi continued to mumble inaudible things while I pleadingly stared at him, the fire in my body slowly dying. I knew this is the last time I will be able to use the power inside of me.

Mochida vanished, with the same blinding yellow light. At the same time, Yoshiki clasped his hand around mine, with the timer beeping in the background. "So close," he whispered in my ear, smiling, and we also vanished. I only saw black.

With all of my appeased friends, I walked in the middle on a hill. Together, we all surveyed the damage Sachiko had done. "Well," Satoshi spoke after a few moments of silence, "none of this will get fixed." We all shook our heads, agreeing to his words. We all stood there, as if we were doing a funeral, a vigil for the destroyed and ruined world. Yoshiki's hand was still connected with mine. I didn't bother to move it.

"There's nothing even we can do about it," Naomi pointed out sadly. "We can't fix this." We all nodded silently. Yuka began to weep. Satoshi put his arm around her shoulders sympathetically. I sighed.

"I guess Heavenly Host is our home now," I commented, glancing back towards the school. Mayu nodded.

"Well, that problem can be fixed. We can make a new Heavenly Host, make it true to its name," Morishige remarked. I sudenly felt so emotional for my family. For my sister. I, too, began to sob. Yoshiki held me closer. As the dusk approached, we all stood there, gazing at the sun, because it may be the last sunset we shall ever see.
