The next day found Bella and the group at Seto kiba's medical center. Bella had woken up and had thrown up until she was throwing up dark blood. She was laying on a bed with an IV in her hand. she was hooked up to several monitors. The doctors had taken several samples of blood, but they could not figure out what was making her sick. 

It wasn't until joey had joked about it being a magical sickness did they get in touch with Dumbledore thinking that he might be right. 

Dumbledore and madam Pomfery made hast in getting there. Madam Pomfery was now scanning Bella with several spells. 

"your magic has been depleted. Your core is damaged" Madam Pomfery explained as she gathered information. 

"what does that mean??" Joey asked. 

"Will she be alright?" Yugi asked worried. 

"it is fixable" Madam Pomfery replied with a nod. They all let out breaths of relief. "but it will involve something that Bella doesn't like" she added. 

"what is that?" Yugi asked. 

"rest" Madam Pomfery replied. Bella made a face at that. She hated being still, She blamed her parents for that. 

"what will happen if she doesn't?" Christian asked looking worried. 

"If she continues to over do it and her core continues to be damaged, then it would become far too damaged to be fixed. that could result in several things. Either she will be unable to use magic or it will kill her. Either way its too dangerous to not take serious" Madam Pomfery explained. 

"how long will it take to fix her core?" Bakura asked. 

"that will depend solely on her." Madam Pomfery replied with a sigh. 

"isn't there a way to speed up the process?" Bella asked looking up at her. 

"well...there is one way" Madam Pomfery said thoughtfully. "but there is no guarantee that it would work." she said. 

"what is it?" Christian asked. 

"this happened because i was tampering with the shadows" Bella said looking over at the group. Melino's eyes flashed at the mention of the shadows. 

"so.....?" Joey asked clearly not understanding. 

"what is the opposite of shadows" Melino said suddenly understanding what they were saying. 

"Light" Yugi said suddenly. Melino looked at him with a look of confusion. 

"what's that..." she began to ask confused. 

"yes. Light magic would counter the effects of dark." Dumbledore said. 

Atem appeared, sitting on the bed beside Bella. "When i defeated Zorc the last time i used the Egyptian gods" he said thoughtfully. His arms were crossed and one leg over the other. 

"What about the patronus charm?" Marik asked looking up at them.

"that is what professor McGonagall used on her" Bakura said. 

"then it should work" Melino says sounding hopeful. 

"let us try" Dumbledore said as he pulled his wand out and pointed it at Bella. Bella tensed up as every molecule in her yelled run. Alarms blared in her mind sensing danger. 

"expecto patronum!" Dumbledore said sharply as a silvery Phoenix appeared out of the wand and dove straight for Bella. Bella tensed as the patronus went through her. Warmth filled her a she felt the darkness fighting with the light of the charm. it was as if the charm was pushing the darkness back. 

Madam Pomfery scanned over Bella again and noticed there was improvement, but not enough. "there is little improvement. But i believe i have an understanding. The dark magic was stunting her healing. Her core is piecing it's self back together" She explained. 

Everyone who understood what she was saying looked relieved. 

"she still there...I can feel her" Bella said shivering. 

"so just shoot her with a couple more and we should be good right?" Melino asked looking at the adults. 

"Hold up" Madam Pomfery said looking a little frustrated, as if she met a blockage. 

"what is wrong?" Yugi asked. 

Madam pomfery turned pale. She brought up a magical hologram of Bella's core. There was darkness crawling all over the light core from the bottom crawling upwards.

Everyone gasped seeing it. 

Melino paled dramatically as she stared at the projection

"what is this?" Tristian asked. 

"Is her core. This shadowy thing...this shouldn't be here" Christian explained. 

Yugi, Marik, and Bakura looked at each other. They had a feeling they knew what it was. 

"we need to get that out of her, before she can fully heal" Madam Pomfery explained. "unfortunately, this is beyond me" she added. Bella forces her self to sit up. 

"NO body is doing anything to me" She said with a growl. Pain was clear in her eyes. 

"Unless you want to die i suggest sitting back and resting" Madam Pomfery said sharply. 

"do you have any idea what this is?" Christian asked looking at Bella. 

"I know exactly what it is" Bella replied glaring at them. "and you will kill me before taking that out of me" she said coldly, confirming Yugi's suspicions. It was the horcrux. Part of Voldemort's soul. Something told Yugi that Christian knew what it was too because the older man stood and left in anger. 

Bella groaned and fell back over onto her side. after leaving some potions with them Madam pomfery left rather reluctantly. Dumbledore followed behind with the excuse of checking on Arthur. 

Bella looked over at Yugi. "I'm sorry" she said sadly. 

"what for?" Tristan asked looking puzzled. 

"i thought i could control the shadows. I just made it easier for the shadows to get to Christine" Bella said with a sigh. 

"Hey we caught it in time" Yugi said. "lets just not try to tamper with the shadows any more ok" he said. 

"But.." Bella started to say. 

"what is so important that you decided to mess with the shadows anyway..i mean. you knew it was dangerous" Tea asked not knowing the full story. 

"hey, Shut up! what she was doing is none of your business" Melino snapped as she glared at Tea. Tea looked over at Melino with a look of pure disgust and hate. 

Bella looked away.  "If you had someone you desperately wanted to protect and save, and the only way to do it was through the shadows you would do the same" She said coldly.

Yugi felt Atem's flinch through the puzzle. 

"Hey no more talk about shadows!" Joey said. "Is she ok to go or not?" he asked. 

Bella looked at the potions. "i think after taking these i should be fine. I just had better not use much of my magic" she said sadly. 

"what if he calls you?" Yugi asked. Bella holds up her necklace. 

"wait...what if who calls?" Melino asked looking confused. 

"voldemort" Bakura replied barely glancing up at Melino. 

Melino looked over at him and tilts her head. She blushed a little and looked away. Catching sight of the blush Bakura looked up at her and then looked away hiding a grin. 

"then i will just have to tell him the truth" Bella said with a tone of defeat. "He would rather i take care of my self than to push my self to the point i can not help him" she explained. "and you two...get over your selves. You are worse than Christine and the Pharaoh" She added scowling causing Melino and Bakura to redden. 

Bakura sat there thinking thoughtfully. "what is it you need to do with the shadows? i mean...specifically?" he asked as he tried changing the subject. 

Bella looked over at him. "Well i am trying to harness it and send it directly at something" she explained. Melino looked over at her surprised an more than a little puzzled. 

"Directly at something?" Marik asked surprised. 

"yes...a living something" Bella replied. "I am not supposed to talk about it...but i doubt you guys are going to rat me out" she said wearily. 

"what if there was someone else who could do it for you" Bakura asked. 

Bella sighed. "well...he did ask me if i could recruit you guys into helping.....i didn't...i didn't want you guys to get upset with me so i didn't even try to ask" she explained. 

"what is this thing that you are sending the shadows at?" Yugi asked. 

"a phoenix." Bella replied. "Not a light phoenix. It is a dark phoenix, but she is sick and needs the darkness of the shadows in order to heal" She explained. 

"you are doing all of this for a bird?" Tristan asked stumped. Melino narrowed her eyes at his response. He didnt have to be rude about it. 

"It is not just any bird" Bella said as her eyes flashed dangerously. 

"so if we heal this bird...you will stop messing with the shadows?" Joey asked. 

"yes...that is the whole goal." Bella replied. 

"perfect. take me to this bird" Bakura said standing up. 

"Bakura ya dolt she cant use her powers" Joey said in annoyance. 

Bella looked down. "I hope she can survive long enough for us to get back to england" She said with a sigh. 

"i am sure he will contact you and tell you if she is getting worse" Yugi said reassuringly. Bella nods as she forces her self to sit up and take the potions that was left there for her.
