Numbness consumes me
As the darkness spreads
It covered my feet first,
Like water lapping at my ankles.
But it kept rising.

Eventually it reached my knees.
The water, pitch black, and completely opaque,
Made it to wear I couldn't see my feet.
Yet, it just kept rising.
I lifted my feet, trying to get out of it.

Still rising, the water was cold around my waist.
I could no longer move the lower half of my body,
For it was trapped in the nothingness.
The wat see was cold,
A painful, yet numbing, freezing cold.

It covered my shoulders not,
As I could no longer reach the bottom.
I tried as much as I could
To stay above the surface
I wouldn't let this take me under.

But soon enough,
It was higher.
And I was sinking.
I could no longer see,
But I fought to meet my mouth and nose to where I could breathe.

The water became thicker,
My body tired and weaker.
Sick of fighting, sick of caring.
Until my head finally completely submerged.

Numbness consumed me
As the darkness spreads.
And there's no light.
There is nothing.
