Neil Khanna.
I whimpered as the alarm blared on my head like some nasty road side siren. Upheaving the duvet that covered my head, I lazily stretched my hands in the air. My eyes flickered as sunlight penetrated into my eyes from the small hole of the pink curtain. A slight head ache formed on my forehead, it was surely the outcome of the nightmare that had been clinging onto me like a leech last night.
My eye lids still acting stubborn were trying hard to shut down. I caught hold of the medicine on the side table near my bed and gobbled down the pill with a glass of water.
I made my way down the stairs hearing the displeasant singing of a male voice, it was kind of increasing my headache as the medicine hadn't started its work yet.
Reaching the kitchen I caught sight of my best friend and the most annoying creature on earth. He was making breakfast for us. Sometimes his concern and care made me feel I'm not an orphan at all.
As soon as he looked at me, his smile faded away.
"You've had nightmares again?" He asked, his voice laced with clear care and concern for me. He always came to know just looking at my face if I was having a hard time.
The word nightmare made me shiver for once, intaking some air I managed to say "I'm okay ", my voice still shaking.
As if ignoring what I said he marched towards me and asked "You had your medicines right?"
I was touched by his solicitude. I've had no one but him in my life, my best friend, Ali. I grabbed him into a hug, he hugged me back. It was like our life depended on this hug. I couldnt thank Ali for whatever he has done for me, more than a friend he has been a father figure to me.
Ali was born an orphan, he himself doesnt know what parents are. But he acted like one for me, when life was pushing me into the boundaries of darkness, where I couldnt demarcate the difference between light and tenebrosity. He held onto me and brought me back.
I have everything one wants in life in terms of money, however in terms of the real treasure life gives, that is relations. My life is completely void in this sense. Ali is the only relationship I have and which I cherish deeply.
He is also going to london for some time, well that's what he says. For me it's like a full decade. He is leaving me here alone for one ducking year. I wont stop him, afterall he has a life apart from me.
I cant tell this to him on face, but I'm afraid what will happen after he leaves. Just to keep myself busy I've joined Mehta Enterprises.
"I dont want to go leaving you here, you also come along with me." Ali whispered, I nodded in negative vigorously. He understood why I never wanted to go back to london ever in my life.
He wished me good luck, waved me to eat the breakfast and moved out if the house with his luggage.
"Eat your medicines on time, call me everyday, if not everyday atleast once in a while I should be getting your updates. And yes, please eat on time. I've asked Mrs. Jeevika to help you out with cooking, she will do that surely only if you allow her to" he said rolling his eyes.
Then bidding a final bye, he left. I stared at the door for quite some time as I saw his figure slowly dwindling into the thin air.I strided towards my wardrobe to get ready and leave for office.
I looked at the reflection in the mirror and picking up a concealer I dabbed it to clearly conceal the dark circles that had formed. I am not one of those men who puts on make up lure girls, what I'm doing is to hide those black bags beneath my orbs, which had now probably vanished.
"I can do it" I whispered to my myself. "I have waited for so many years" . I took a deep breath, I had almost now lost counts of the number of deep breaths I had been intaking .
*******
I was now standing infront of Mehta mansion. My eyes bulged out looking at the royalty. The wealth I owned could feed me for my entire life without working , but they wouldn't have to work at all. I'm sure it could feed atleast 7 generations at a stretch.
The mansion was ancestral and was carved so beautifully . Before I could examine it more, I saw a man waving towards me. He recognized me maybe.! He showed me the way inside.
The doors opened to reveal an absolutely lavish mansion. There were plenty windows, floor ceilings ones, defining the skyline. I never imagined seeing Mumbai with this view. Pretty the only thing I can say.!
"Whoaaa" I whispered audible only to me. I was scanning through the sitting area when I heard a cacophony of bangles rattling against each other echoing in the prodigious living area of the mansion. Darting my eyes towards the direction, I caught sight of the most magnificent being in the universe. My heart stopped beating, my eyes forgot blinking.
I just kept staring the fair lady. Her white skin glowed, while her thin wrist adorned golden bangles, her smile a different euphoria altogether. Her wavy hair intertwined to each other into a loose braid.
She was trying to handle her orange dupatta, which was continuously trying to slip off. The synonym of elegance, beauty and grace she is without any doubt.
I've never in my life experienced such a plethora of emotions for anyone.
My gaze remained enthralled towards her until I heard someone call my name. Coming out of my reverie I saw a man in a black suit, his looks indeed screamed that he was clearly the owner of the mansion, Ashish Mehta.
