
Chapter 13

I came out of the restaurant, now standing at the crossing. It was empty, washed away in rain. I could see Mr. Ivanov far away, at the end of the straight road. My voice echoed through the empty streets as I called out to him. He raised his arm showing direction to his left, "Mr. Navarro might know!"
I looked at my right, and in the alley I saw Mr. Navarro standing, looking up high at a building.
I could hear the left street rumbling from inside. It was getting louder that my ear started ringing, and I woke up to find my phone buzzing on my left.
I didn't realize when I dozed off having lucid dreams. The bowl had some leftover salad I made, my laptop open in front of me with my unfinished report that I'd to submit on Monday.
I knew I couldn't work anymore, the hot shower and dinner made me lazy. So, I picked up my phone from the table and went to bed, scrolling through the messages.
"You asleep?" – Jinia's text read. She'd been texting me since the afternoon, but I fell asleep while chatting with her.
"Sorry, I just drowsed. So, tell me how's your school going?" – I swiped over keypad. She'd just told me she got her job as a professor in a college, which she'd been working so hard for, all these years. I was so happy for her.
"It's new, it's good. You know it's okay if you sleep now, we can talk tomorrow." – she replied in two seconds.
"No, it's okay, why you up so late though?" – I responded.
"I was preparing for test questions tomorrow".
I sighed. Jinia is my best friend, she has been for last 25 years. We've seen each other growing up, dealing teenage, reading story books on bus together, watching movies in her attic, crying, promising, dreaming, laughing. But I just realized we were now grown-ups, working, earning and facing reality.
I chuckled at myself, "When did we grow up?"
"I could tell when we'd be sixty!". I smiled big at her reply.
And suddenly we were out of words, with a long pause. I knew she had something more to say. I sat up feeling impatient. My phone screen showed Jinia typing..
