Megan breathed the wet air as she moved through the mist. Echoes wandered lazily around her. Suddenly, she spotted him - Arthur Raine - standing among the fog.
"Arthur!" She cried.
The man turned. "Who wants to know?"
Megan approached the Echo. "My name is Megan Burgess. I need your help."
He nodded, signaling her to continue.
"I've heard that you know of a way to get back to Earth permanently." She blurted.
Arthur raised an eyebrow. "And who told you that?"
"Adam Jones." She said simply.
Arthur shook his head. "That man's mouth is bigger than a squirrel with a bullhorn."
"What?!" Megan was completely caught off guard by the man's strange expression.
He sighed. "It's true. I knew the Wayminder Kendo Rattan. I even helped him in his search for such a path."
Megan's eyes widened in excitement.
"But," he continued, "we never found anything conclusive. Just theories."
"I'm willing to work with theories." Megan resolved.
Arthur sighed. "Well then, you're looking for the Pilgrim Path. That was Kendo and I's most promising option." He gave an explanation of how the path would work.
"Thank you, Arthur." Megan clasped his hand.
Arthur nodded. "Perhaps now I can move on."
Megan looked at him confused. "Why can't you?"
Arthur looked off into the mist. "After Kendo and I gave up the search, I felt like I had wasted my life. But, if this information proves useful to you, maybe my life wasn't a complete wash. Knowing that, maybe I can finally let go of my regret."
"I hope so." She replied. "I wish you the best. Thank you."
He gave a slight bow before he disappeared.
Megan turned. She had to find the others.
A shadow morphed out of the fog. "Going somewhere?" An armored soldier stood before her. More men appeared, surrounding her.
"What do you want with me?" Megan clenched her fists, holding back her power.
"It's not what I want, it's what the High Shaper wants." The first man, obviously the leader, spoke up.
Things clicked together in Megan's mind. "You're the Hunter. I've heard stories about you."
"All good I hope." His voice was muffled by his helmet, but he sounded rather young.
"Hardly." Megan retorted.
The Hunter eyed her menacingly. "I know I can't a win a fight against you."
Megan smirked. "I guess you're not a complete idiot."
"But," he continued, "your companion is another story."
Megan narrowed her eyes.
"He was easy to apprehend, and... he won't last long with his Lifespark separated from his body." Megan could here the smugness in his voice.
"What did you do?" A spike of pain flashed through her body as her power fought to claw its way out.
The Hunter tilted his head slightly as if he were smirking. "Hand yourself over, and I'll let him go."
Megan took deep, calming breaths. "I need some time to think."
"As you wish." The Hunter conceded. "But don't wait too long, he doesn't have a lot of time." The Enforcers disappeared into the fog.
