Chapter 47 - The Temple

The trip to Necronum was long but uneventful. The Weeping Falls Temple wasn't too hard to find since it had a massive, foaming waterfall raging down a sheer cliff  as it's backdrop.

Megan and her companions entered through a decrepit gate to find a ruinous structure inside. Everything was moist and some of the boulders had a layer of mold covering them. Mist poured through the area from the falls, shrouding the ground from view and making their shoes and pants wet.

The temple seemed to be teeming with people, but most of them had a strange aura to them. They looked semitransparent.

Seth perked up. "We're going to talk to ghosts."

Kendra groaned. "Stop acting like this isn't a regular occurrence for you."

"Hey," he defended, "I've never talked to ghosts from a different dimension before."

Kendra rolled her eyes.

Megan had to chuckle. Seth has been freaking out since she'd told them the truth about where they were. "There not exactly ghosts." She explained. "Here their called Echoes, but ghosts gives you the right idea."

"Who do we have to talk to?" Warren marveled at his surroundings.

"His name is Arthur Raine. Apparently, he worked with a powerful Wayminder named Kendo Rattan, who it's rumored found a way back to Earth permanently." Megan scanned the faces around her.

Jones had told her that Arthur was a lean man with shoulder-length brown hair and eyes as green and bright as emeralds. It wasn't much to go on, but it was all they had.

Something moved in the mist to their right. That was odd. Megan kept a watchful eye out as they continued through the temple. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed more movement. Someone was watching them.

Her heart skipped a beat and she turned to the others. "I think we should split up. We can cover more ground that way." She met Warren's gaze, letting the fear show, hoping the warning translated.

Her brother nodded, quickly checking the mist for shadows. "I'll go this way." He gestured vaguely. "Seth and Kendra should stay together."

Seth scowled at Warren, But Kendra cut in. "I think that's a good idea."

Warren nodded and moved into the mist.

Megan placed a hand on each of the kids' shoulders. "Watch each others' backs."

They nodded and disappeared into the fog.

Megan scanned the ruins one more time then started off in her own direction, hoping whatever or whoever was following them chose to go after her.
