Chapter 37 - Warren
Upon seeing Megan's approach, Warren stepped protectively in front of the kids. "Who are you?"
Megan raised her hands calmly, showing that she was unarmed. "I don't want any trouble."
"Then you came to the wrong place." Warren warned.
She took a deep breath, holding back her tears. "My name is Megan. I'm sure you don't remember me, but we used to work together in the Knights of the Dawn."
He scoffed. "You think working with the Knights gives you credibility?"
Megan looked confused.
"We've found too many traitors to trust the old members." He explained.
"I didn't know." Megan lowered her hands, her mind reeling. Traitors in the Knights of the Dawn? "I've been gone for while?"
He raised an eyebrow. "What's 'a while?'"
Megan sighed, her breaths shaky as she fought to control her emotions. "Three years give or take and I sort of dropped out of the Knights about two years before that. I get that it's hard to trust people after being betrayed, but I hope you can believe me when I say that I would never betray you."
Warren stared into her eyes, his body finally relaxing. "Why are you here?"
Megan shrugged. "I wanted to see my old partner in crime. Besides, I am WAY out of the loop. I have no clue what's been going on the last three years and I thought, who better to fill me in than the guy who probably threw himself on the frontlines."
He chuckled. "Well, I don't know where you've been to have not heard about this, but the Demon Prison opened and now they're all imprisoned in what used to be the Fairy Queen's Realm."
Megan's jaw dropped. "Sounds exciting. Sorry I missed it."
He smiled. "You're talking my language. You and I would get along just fine."
Megan's heart sank. "We did." She glanced at the kids still standing behind Warren. They were both gawking at her.
She wasn't sure why. If anything, they were more impressive then a forgotten sister.
The girl, Kendra, glowed blindingly bright and the boy, Seth, had an aura of shadows around him - Fairy Kind and a Shadow Charmer.
Megan had been obsessed with the idea of being supernaturally gifted when she was younger, so, she'd learned everything she could, which wasn't much, but enough to identify what she saw.
Kendra whispered to Warren and he was just about to ask a question when he glanced over her shoulder, eyes wide.
Megan whirled just as two soldiers grabbed her and started dragging her towards the woods. She fought back, but the large men were too strong. She didn't want to use her powers again, she might hurt them, or worse. Just inside the tree line, a swirling portal appeared.
Megan kicked and struggled, all while trying to warn Warren and the kids to stay back. She didn't want them going through the portal too.
One of the soldiers heaved her forward and the world disappeared as she fell into the portal.
