XG 79 - Sickening joy of being the victor

Man Jeong seemed to sense danger from Wong Xue Guo and was no longer being careful of his wounds. With fierce red eyes, he stood up and reached out to grab something.

Raising her sword, she brought it down at him, unconsciously not using her full strength due to fear of what her sharp sword could do. Taking a life does not mean she needs to mutilate the body. With no ability to dodge, Man Jeong could only turn away from the attack, taking it on his back.

"Ahhh!" The new wound on his back was much deeper than the others, but after getting used to the pain, the new one does not hinder him much.

Wong Xue Guo's pupil shook from the sight of her blade sunk deep into his flesh but forced her hand to remain steady. Her short mental disturbance gave him the opportunity to grab onto a coat hanger stand and swing it at her.

With her attempt to stop him failed, she finally let go of her restrain and embrace the violence. She had shown him mercy and he was the one that did not appreciate it. His movement had dislodged her sword, and thus she could quickly swing her sword to meet the hanger, meeting some resistance when they clashed, but still able to cut through it with more strength applied.

With an energy-bursting yell, she did not stop after cutting through the hanger and slashing across his chest and arm. Not even his arm could block the blade and it was sliced off completely, his blood burst out like an open pipe, and quickly dyed his jacket red.

With shaky breathing, she stepped back in revulsion at his chopped arm and blood. She watched in a daze as Man Jeong collapsed and struggled to take a deep breath like a fish out of the water before he stopped moving with eyes wide open. His expression was one of disbelief and unwillingness.

Before the still body, her body trembled at what she had done and could hardly accept the fact that she had murdered a human. She hunched down and dry heaving, unwilling to look at the dead body anymore.

Staring at her bloody hand, the sensation as her sword cut through his flesh, the burst of warm blood hitting her, and the sickening joy of being the victor of this fight continuously assaulted her.

"Haaah..." She rubbed her blood-stained hand at her pants for a long time before realizing it was a bad idea. Pressing her trembling lips tightly together, she wiped her hands on the dirty bedsheet, but it was not easy to remove the blood. Some of it had already dried on her hand.

"It's cold..." Was she in shock? She did not dare rub her arms to unfreeze herself and looked around, only to see the broken window.

And a zombie was staring at her from the outside.

Wong Xue Guo and the zombie stared at each other for a long while, both sides not moving.

"Rarh!" The zombie that was lured over from the scent of blood finally charged at the broken window, wanting to get in.

"When did the glass break?!" Wong Xue Guo yelled in panic but was also glad the danger distracted her.

The new danger also had her blood boil, effectively warming her up. She thrust out her sword, stabbing right at its chest, and pierced its heart before it could make its way into the room. Once it stopped moving, she stepped on its face and shoved it away from her sword and far away from the window.

Adrenaline high, her sword continued moving to the next thing that moved outside the window. If the other person had not moved quickly and blocked her sword, she might have killed another human.

Wong Xue Guo's eyes widened in surprise. "You are-!"

"It's us!" Do Wheein hurriedly said with equally wide eyes from the back of Park Sungmin.

"There are too many monsters at the front. We had to find another way in," Park Sungmin said with a grunt. He was the one that had blocked Wong Xue Guo's sword with his firefighter axe, his arms swell from the force needed.

Do Wheein eyed the sword on Wong Xue Guo's grip warily. It was not that she did not know the younger girl had such a dangerous weapon with her before, but she was cautious on whether she could use it properly or not. After all, a weapon does not have a mind, only the wielder does.

"Sorry. Are you intending to climb in from the window?"

"Yes!"

Wong Xue Guo moved back and changed her sword to a gun, guarding the trio as they climbed in. Park Donghae was the last to enter, carrying a large sack that was moving. If one does not know what they were up to, they would have thought they were a group of kidnappers.

"You got a zombie?"

"We originally could not find one nearby, but suddenly, a hoard of it appeared after the car alarm rang."

Too few zombies were difficult and having too much was also difficult. In the end, they had to sneak around and kidnap a lone zombie straying behind the group.

Once they adjusted their eyes after coming into the darkroom, they immediately saw the dead body of Man Jeong. In the new era, one could not easily come to a conclusion but they still glanced warily at Wong Xue Guo.

There were only two people in the room and they would have known who was the one that killed the other person. From the short amount of time knowing each other, they could guess Wong Xue Guo was not the type of person that would kill anyone without a reason.

"He attacked me and I had to kill him when he kept trying," was Wong Xue Guo's vague explanation. She had to explain herself because, in such a situation, it will be bad if she was misunderstood as a bad person and risk being abandoned when help was needed. After all, they were now in an alliance. "Your father is in the room next door."

Do Wheein was relieved to hear her father was fine. "Let's go out."

With more people around, Wong Xue Guo no longer fears opening the door. The corridor was empty and she quickly went to knock on the door next door. "Ash, it's Xue Guo. Open the door."

The door slowly opens, revealing a lone eye spying at the gap of the door. Confirming it was really them, Ash opened the door. "Your daughter's back!"

That sentence was directed to Do Eunhyuk, who looked much more tired than before, and more strands of his hair had turned white. From it, Wong Xue Guo already knew that chopping off his hand does not work in stopping the transformation. Or he might not have that gene.

Either way, he will need to get bitten soon, to do the final betting on whether he has that gene or not.

"The zombie is here." Do Wheein blinked her wet eyes and untied the sack, revealing a struggling zombie with his mouth tied with a thick rope.

Unfortunately, Wong Xue Guo does not dare to take charge of the procedure. "We will wait for Kang Xunsu."

The only one among their group that could guarantee success was Kang Xunsu, who had learned the method in more detail from Suzie Yap. Ash could oversee if he had more confidence, but alas, he dares not to gamble.

Wong Xue Guo had taken way too long to decide whether to go out and join the others because the rest of the team had already come back before she made her decision. Not that she was ready to move anyway, as Lee Su-Hwa was cleaning her cuts.

Her wounds and bloodstains on her clothing were the first things Chen Yibo saw.

"You got injured?" Chen Yibo strode towards her with his long legs, his brows furrowed in confusion. He had remembered she had not tripped over anything and her cuts were clearly caused by something thin.

Wong Xue Guo huffed and eyed the jersey man and the sleek office worker. Her gaze was full of suspicion, especially when she saw a gun was in the jersey guy's hand. "That cowardly guy attacked me with a fork and knife. He's drooling like a cannibalism pervert."

The moment she finished her last word, those that understood what she said immediately underwent a swift change of expression. Kang Hansik jerked back when he was suddenly faced with apprehensive gazes from the majority of the people in the room.

"What the fuck do you want from me?" Kang Hansik snapped rudely.

Kang Xunsu waved his hand. "Gun."

"How stingy are you?" Despite his complaint, Kang Hansik gave back the gun to the big guy.

Oh Junghan knew that he needed to make things clear. "I'm not familiar with Man Jeong. He's a loner and he only got picked for today's group because we lack a person. Right, Hansik?"

"What?" Kang Hansik was finally filled in with what Wong Xue Guo said from Oh Junghan. "He's just a coward, what does he dare to do?"

"As long as those two are normal, it doesn't matter anymore. That guy is dead." Wong Xue Guo's voice was normal, but Kang Xunsu and Chen Yibo still noticed she was not as unaffected as she tried to portray.

Do Wheein does not care about them and asked Chen Yibo, who she could speak with her mother tongue. "I have brought back a zombie. What should be done next?"

Chen Yibo may know the way from Suzie Yap's explanation, but thinking the same as Wong Xue Guo, he asked Kang Xunsu to lead the process. Kang Xunsu also only knew the method by word of mouth, so he grabbed Ash and Kim Sung-Ho to help since they had more or less guided Vihaan to awaken his gene.

Chen Yibo nodded at Lee Su-Hwa. "Let me."

Lee Su-Hwa smiled and passed her job to Chen Yibo, allowing her to get to the anxious Do Wheein.

Wong Xue Guo watched silently as Chen Yibo carefully wrapped a clean bandage over her cut. Unfortunately, a normal band-aid could not cover her entire wound and she did not want her injury exposed to the air, so the bandage was picked. It was a waste to use the bandage for a small injury, so Wong Xue Guo silently told herself not to remove the bandage till tomorrow. She estimates her wound will be much better tomorrow, so there was no need to cover it then.

Only after Chen Yibo finishes bandaging her arm did she finally catch the weirdness from him. "... What's wrong with you? Are you upset about that two-faced coward guy?"
