XG 37 - Your filter is quite thick

The police had allowed Suzie Yap's group to continue their way, which was heard by the people around them. The man with the blue shirt immediately came down from his car to argue with the policeman about the unfairness. His action had others start to join in to complain as well.

Suzie Yap did not bother with them and knocked on their third car to convey her new plans.

After a moment, she walked over to the second car with Nana and Smoker, ignoring the crowd that was getting larger around the poor policeman. Kang Xunsu unlocked the car and lowered the window. As he expected, Suzie Yap would not be entering the car and communicating with them through the open window.

Suzie Yap jabbed a thumb at the third car. "I will be taking one car. Xunsu, continue to the military base and urge them to fly as soon as possible. Don't allow them to delay."

"Lucky, huh, that we packed equally for each car." Kang Xunsu whistled as Nana opened the driver's door. "You want to drive?"

"No offense, leader, but I'm the better driver."

"None at all." Kang Xunsu was not bothered by it, treating it as getting a short break, and stepped out of the car to take the passenger seat. "Smoker, go to the first car."

The first car had Aurora, Noodle, L.L., and Mocking, but with Mocking deciding to follow Suzie Yap, Smoker will replace his spot. Smoker was reluctant to separate from his girlfriend that refused to follow him to ride the first car.

Even if Smoker looked like a whipped boyfriend, he still placed his job a little more important than his girlfriend. With just a glance, the couple already communicated their decision and did not try to change the other person's mind.

Wong Xue Guo: Tsk, all of them have an occupational disease.

Suzie Yap was just indulging with hugging her baby as much as she could before their short separation when screams suddenly came from right behind them.

"He's infected!" Someone yelled and their words caused more people to scream along.

Wong Xue Guo jerked sharply in Suzie Yap's arms, her hands unconsciously grabbing her mother's wrists. Having the infection spread in the middle of the highway was a great challenge.

One would need to debate whether to leave the car, stay hidden in the car, or forcefully make way for their car to escape with them. They would need to make decisions quickly, as the crowd was just two or three cars away from theirs.

With a grim expression, Suzie Yap gave her daughter a kiss on her forehead. "Stay inside."

"Mother-" Wong Xue Guo failed to stop her mother from making her way to the crowd that was frantically moving away from the fallen man that triggered the chaos. Wong Xue Guo bites her lip to stop herself from calling out to her mother again and watches attentively.

Kang Xunsu used the walkie-talkie to pass down commands to the third car. "Monkey, escort madam."

The cars in front of them had started to honk like crazy and as for the more impatient ones, they directly urged those in front by ramming their cars onto their rear. Fortunately, Wong Xue Guo's group of cars were the last in their lane without any cars ramming onto them from the rear.

"That man... he's arguing with the police just now," Chen Yibo manages to identify the man, which was the blue shirt man that overheard Suzie Yap being given green light earlier.

The policeman was also afraid of the infected man and immediately pulled out his gun from the holster, aiming at the twitching man on the ground. Before he could unlock the safety, a slender hand blocked the gun.

"Wait, let me check his state."

"Wait- miss, don't approach him! It's dangerous!" The policeman called but Suzie Yap ignored him.

Only Suzie Yap dared to approach the twitching man on the ground. Curiously, the remaining crowd did not run but choose to form a wide circle around the man to watch what will happen next. The wide circle makes things easier for Suzie Yap.

She turned the man to lie on his back and saw that he had lost consciousness, his arms and legs jerking without control. "He seems to have seizure symptoms. Does anyone here know how to do the emergency treatment?"

"Me... me." A young lady spoke out before making her way closer. "Turn him onto one side to make his breathing easier."

The crowd, hearing that the man only had a seizure, was immediately relaxed.

"What the heck. Why would he have a seizure all of the sudden?" One of them complained.

"I nearly had a heart attack!"

"Husband!" A woman ran out of the car and rushed to the fallen man with a face full of tears. Someone with an overworking mind scorned the wife for only coming out after knowing there's no danger.

"I've called the ambulance. Everyone, get back home! U-turn! U-turn!" The policeman urged the crowd again.

Most of the people also started to leave when the policeman's fellow co-workers finally started making their way back after warning the cars at the front.

"Why can she go!" Someone pointed at Suzie Yap, taking over the previous argument.

Giving him a look as if he was a fool, Suzie Yap spoke curtly, "I'm a retired soldier, summoned to re-enter the base. Civilians should listen to the police and stay hidden. Running around and risking being infected will give us more things to do."

No one dared to ask her to prove her identity, especially with her tough attitude and bravery from earlier. Some with sharp eyes caught sight of weapons strapped onto her and their hostility eased.

Suzie Yap also did not offer any more explanation and walked away coolly with Monkey gazing admirably at her.

Assured the man was just having a seizure, Chen Yibo looked away and paused when he saw Wong Xue Guo. He stared at Wong Xue Guo with a face mask on while holding onto her sword, battle-ready. "Mrs. Wong said the infection only spread through bite, so you don't need to wear a face mask."

With the fake alarm settled, Wong Xue Guo sat back down properly and removed her facemask, packing it away carefully. "I wear this to block the smell and avoid dirty stuff getting into my mouth. Even if blood does not infect us, it's still disgusting. What if I get HIV or AIDS?"

Accepting her reasoning, Chen Yibo nodded.

Wong Xue Guo hesitated for a moment before asking, "Do you want one? I have plenty." She was surprised when she discovered several boxes of face masks hidden in her house's storeroom and did not hesitate to grab a bunch of them.

Chen Yibo accepted the offer. "Thank you."

Kang Xunsu stared at the soon-to-be matching face mask couple over the mirror with a straight face, but his shaking shoulder betrayed his amusement. "Can you breathe with it?" He could not resist asking. "What happens when you suddenly blackout halfway from lack of oxygen while running for your life? One moment of inattention will cost you your life."

"I think I can train myself to get used to it. Just like those fencing masters with helmets." Wong Xue Guo made a face. "I dislike those dirty blood touching me."

She also dislikes admitting having the face mask helped her to feel more secure.

Suzie Yap came over to give her daughter another goodbye hug before telling her to be careful.

"Xunsu, Aurora will settle the formalities, but remember that Guo Guo is my daughter."

Understanding what his employer meant, he gave her a nod to say he understood. Without Suzie Yap and Charles Wong, the bodyguards will listen to the young miss. But Kang Xunsu still thinks it was rather harsh to let the pampered princess take charge over something she has no experience of.

Taking care also means taking responsibility for the failure.

"Yibo, I will leave my daughter with you," Suzie Yap dropped a word before leaving with Monkey and Mocking in the third car.

She moved so fast Wong Xue Guo does not even have a chance to protest why she would only tell Chen Yibo that. Should she not say that to the bodyguards instead?

Strangely self-conscious, Wong Xue Guo did not look in Chen Yibo's direction, but he does not feel the same.

"Rest assured, I will protect you."

Wong Xue Guo turned her head, staring at his generous smile, and sneered. "Are you that eager to die? You should pay attention to yourself first."

"Hey princess, don't be mean to your knight," Kang Xunsu chastised.

"She is just worried about my safety," Chen Yibo came to her defense before she got to say anything. "She is right that I should also pay attention to my safety before I could protect her."

Wong Xue Guo: "..."

Kang Xunsu: "... Your filter is quite thick."

"Pardon?"

"Nothing," Wong Xue Guo said, giving Kang Xunsu a stink eye. "Sit tight. Nana will drive at full speed."

Luckily Chen Yibo was a normie and not knowing much about the new trendy terms.

The male lead is a silly person full of righteous personality in our female lead's eyes. Their romance is slow to bloom, as our female lead holds nothing but condemnation to him (for now). Male lead also hasn't fallen for her yet!
