XG 167 - Absorb them all

"Shit, we got a new wave of zombies coming over!" Bee reported after checking the situation at the other side of the gate with his binoculars.

He was fired from his job of attacking with the demolition ball after accidentally caving in a section of the fence. He had just made more entrances to welcome the zombies in! Wonyoung, the soft-spoken guard, took over the crane and did a better job than Bee.

"Where's Miss Wong?" The captain quickly asked, having the idea of letting her go to the front and deal with the new wave.

"Aren't you rather eager to send a kid out to fight?" The beanie hat guard asked as he hid behind the captain to reload his gun.

The captain cleared his throat and ignored the sweat dripping down to his eyes, never stopping pulling the trigger. "All people with ability should not be categorized in the usual way. Even if she's a child, she has the power to protect us. Don't underestimate children!"

The beanie guard sighed, staring down at the remaining ammo left before tossing another grenade at the crowd. "Just as well. We don't have enough ammo left."

Just as the leader of the patrol team had that thought, other desperate people had it as well. But none of them dared to voice it out, since the person in question was already busy doing her part of the contribution, as well as being someone they could not effort to offend.

Wong Xue Guo winced from the sudden headache and took off her glasses. Surprisingly, without the lenses, her eyes could see everything clearly.

It was a little disgusting to know that she was absorbing energy from zombies to get powerful, stronger and healthier, but the pros helped overcome it.

The pros also made her heart greedier and her gaze, as she stared at the zombies, became different. Eagerness sparkled in her eyes and her mouth unconsciously curled upward.

This devouring ability was not Wong Xue Guo's ideal one, but a beggar should not be choosy.

Even if she wanted to wear her glasses, her current vision would make her head dizzy. Keeping her glasses safe in her pocket, Wong Xue Guo told Nana to stay back.

But Nana refused. "I won't leave your side. You did not absorb much from me."

Wong Xue Guo did not press on the issue as they were lacking of time. "Stay close to Smoker."

It surprised Nana that Wong Xue Guo regained her composure rather quickly and was ready to have a second round of attack again.

Instead of staying with Smoker, Nana followed behind Wong Xue Guo, watching her practise her shadow against the zombies that entered the base. She only shoots if Wong Xue Guo missed a zombie, but so far, she only got to shoot one. It was slightly puzzling what conditions were needed to activate the black sclera, as now Wong Xue Guo was using her shadows with normal eyes.

"Little princess," Kang Xunsu called as soon as he was within hearing range. He let out a soft whistle when he saw the little princess' really healthy and glossy appearance of someone that has a really relaxing holiday. "Did you break your glasses?"

"What are you doing here?" Wong Xue Guo asked in surprise and quickly directed her shadow to absorb the zombies before they could come near them.

Kang Xunsu was shooting with one hand, with his other arm supporting half of his weight using the crutch. "Let me introduce you to two funny guys."

"Please speak properly to the young miss," Scot Lang chastised. With a flick of his finger, a zombie sailed over the air towards him to be then stabbed with a knife.

The pair of twins in well-fitted butler uniforms succeed in grabbing Wong Xue Guo's interest. They would be famous in a butler cafe in Japan, with their Asian face and slender body that was almost a live version of ikemen [1] anime characters.

Ikemen- a Japanese term for good-looking men

Both of them looked identical, even down to the two white side bangs from the Awakening procedure.

Snapping his fingers, Gen Lang pushed every zombie that tried to approach them as he introduced himself in English. "Miss Wong, we are Master Chin Chun's aides. Master is worried that Miss Wong will have difficulty fighting for a long time, so we are sent out to assist you."

This was the first time she had seen them, or even known of their existence. Whenever she saw Chin Chun, he was always alone, without a shadow of his people seen around him. Yet their existence was guessed from the prepared tea and snacks during afternoon tea time, or meals laid out for Chin Chun punctually.

"This is not the right time, but it's a pleasure to meet you. I am truly thankful that you are willing to help."

"The pleasure is all ours. There's a second wave of zombies with a leader leading them. Sir thinks that it's better to use this chance to master your new skill."

Wong Xue Guo watched the flung-away zombies from Gen Lang's ability with regret, and her shadow wiggled behind her sadly.

As they continued talking, the twin butlers were working seamlessly, using their ability to their convenience.

Gen Lang's repelling ability would be safe for him, but not for his allies that were spread all over the place, so he refrained from using his ability much. His ability was limited to only repelling an item at a time at the width of a room.

Thanks to the zombies that had lost a lot of their flesh, it was easy to fling them far away.

With a pulling ability, Scot Lang was more active in killing, but it had to be done in good timing, or else the zombie's mouth would get the chance to bite him.

The display of the twin's contrasting abilities had Wong Xue Guo become a little thoughtful about her ability. She could enhance Miu and Dal's abilities. Now she discovers she could devour energy to strengthen herself.

A contradicting ability, yet also worked well with each other if used correctly. The only thing left to do was to check if it worked as she wanted.

Chin Chun was right. A person's ability could be useful if one knew how to use it right.

"Princess, can you still eat the zombies?" Kang Xunsu asked, watching in interest as her shadow morphed into an eagle with broad wings, swooping over the zombies. Did she think that morphing into a winged animal would increase the shadow's speed?

"Absorb. I'm absorbing their energy," Wong Xue Guo corrected curtly. Eating would mean she had swallowed the zombies' bones and flesh, which she did not.

Yuck!

Unfortunately, she had to stop using the eagle form and switch to an animal that runs on the ground. The pull of her energy was much more when she used the eagle form than animals on land.

"When you get full, tell us. We will burn them down with a great bonfire," Kang Xunsu said. He sticks close to L.L., piggybacking on the other's efforts. With Wong Xue Guo's devouring ability, he was much more relaxed.

Wong Xue Guo eyed him with an unimpressed look. The wise word would be, 'Why are you not doing that now?'

But another side of her that was full of the idea of getting stronger, not caring that her body might be unable to handle it and explode like a balloon.

Shoot. I'm just like a villain who only cares about being powerful and not about the consequences.

"We can set fire to those zombies outside," Wong Xue Guo suggested. "I can absorb energy from zombies another time. Right now it's important to protect our base."

"He's just lazy," L.L. said.

"I'm saving our oil," Kang Xunxu retorted, not revealing that he got the permission to use up all the oil if needed to be.

"Good point," Wong Xue Guo admitted. "I will try my best to absorb them all."
