Chapter 130 - The string of sanity snapped

XG 130 - The string of sanity snapped

Woojin was not huge and did not take up much space, thus the room looked spacious. Even with Wong Xue Guo and Kang Xunsu in there earlier, there was still enough space. But now, it was cramped with so many people diving in to observe the experiment.

Wong Xue Guo suddenly feels like a white lab rat about to be experimented on by a group of overly eager scientists with maniac gaze.

She was forced to stick white patches on her temple and heart to monitor her heart rate. Once the radar goes off, the experiment would immediately stop. That was not the way to stop the experiment, as she was also allowed to call off the experiment anytime she wanted.

After all, she was still Director Wong's daughter. If anything bad happened to her, who knows what would happen to them?

After getting an 'ok' from the recording researchers, Woojin held her hand, as his ability was stronger with skin contact, and unleashed his ability on her. This time, with the new information he had in hand, he was not afraid, even if he was a little skirmish from the past experience with her unexpected violence.

To say Woojin does not hold a grudge was untrue. Since he got the chance to retaliate, he took it gleefully. Not knowing what Woojin was thinking or even caring about it, Wong Xue Guo braced herself and resisted her instinct to fight back.

The familiar fear rose in her heart, colliding with her rational side. It was manageable, thus her poker face was perfectly held up.

On the other hand, Woojin was puzzled that it did not work. Calming his nerves with the excuse that the new ability would need practice before growing familiar with it, he tried a few more methods to activate his new ability.

One of the best ways to distract yourself from fear was to think of other things. Thus, Wong Xue Guo let her mind travel around, thinking about everything and anything she wanted. But the main thing that bugged her was why Woojin could not do the same thing of bringing themselves into his memories.

It might be scary, but she was also curious to see herself inside her own memories.

Woojin unconsciously gasped in delight when the familiar feeling finally came. Quickly grabbing it, both of them were yanked into the journey down Wong Xue Guo's memory, heading straight to the root cause of her fear that brought pain to her.

The first scene showed a little Wong Xue Guo dressed in a cute pink dress, looking like a little fairy princess. She was staring at the back of a red-haired beauty, who was clinging to a handsome man's arm. The good looking couple never paid attention to the little fairy from the start till the end, as if she was invisible.

If the little girl does not look like a younger, adorable version of Wong Xue Guo and that this was her memory, Woojin might really think that was a ghost.

The scene changed, but it remained in the same large house, with only the occupants changed, displaying the events that happened on different days in a fast forward mode.

The little girl would wear different clothes representing different days and she was holding onto different things such as test papers, medals, and even a bottle of handmade little stars. She would try to use those items to grab the couple's attention, but what she got was just a passing, disinterested glance before they returned to their honeymoon world.

Every day, the little Wong Xue Guo's expression was the same. Desperation and yearning for the couple to look at her were filled to the brim in her round eyes, where even a second glance from them would cheer her up.

The scene started to change, with the father frequently not in the picture. The setting was changed to a dining area, where the mother and daughter were having their meal. Little Wong Xue Guo would always try to start a conversation, but her mother would always chastise her not to speak during meals.

Woojin feels a little pity for the little girl with her downcasted expression, but he does not think this neglection was something a person would be so afraid of that it would be the main catalyst of her fear. With that belief, he tried to dig deeper, believing that this was a deception and there should be something more painful than this.

Perhaps it was because it was a new ability, he failed to get what he wanted to be done. Stuck in the memories of little Wong Xue Guo trying her best to get her mother's approval, Woojin repeatedly tried to dig deeper.

"Come on... let me in," Woojin grumbled, bubbling with frustration over his inability to command his ability well.

To his relief, his ability finally worked and the scene changed.

The elegant house suddenly turned into a dimly lit abandoned warehouse. In her dirtied uniform, Wong Xue Guo was tied up with her mouth gagged as she lay on the dirty floor. There were two men with her and they did not look like they were up to anything good.

"Give me 10 million by tomorrow and I will release her. If you call the police, I will kill her!" One of the men threatened, speaking to the cell phone in his hand.

The phone was on loudspeaker, so Wong Xue Guo could hear her mother answering positively. Her eyes were bright with hope, happy that her mother cared for her and it chased the fear away.

The scene abruptly changed to police surrounding the warehouse with guns out, telling the men inside to surrender. One of the men got angry and called her parents' number to scold them and even threatened them with their daughter's life again.

The call was cut off from the other side during his mid tirade and the man repeatedly dialled the number again, only to be told their number was blocked.

Woojin started to fear for the little girl's life when the man turned to look at her with the bloodshot eyes of a desperate man. He did not know how long she was captured, and the men definitely treated her roughly with how she looked.

He only gets to deliver a few kicks to Wong Xue Guo when the police finally burst into the warehouse and grab him away with his partner in crime.

The little girl was crying, but her tear-filled face expressed relief upon rescue. She was looking around for her parents, but only found her bodyguards. That fact immediately extinguished half of the light in her eyes, but she still held onto hope as she returned home. But the remaining hope was completely wiped out when her mother only hugged her once and back to her usual routine after that. Her father only bestowed her a glance from head to toe, only checking that she was fine physically.

Woojin could almost really hear the string of sanity snapped in the little girl's mind!

By now, the thought of getting even with Wong Xue Guo was forgotten and he only wanted to know what happened next. Fortunately, he could continue to watch because it was linked to Wong Xue Guo's pain and fear.

Perhaps knowing that her fear and pain could be seen by others in the room, Wong Xue Guo consciously controlled her expression. Other than her pale face and beads of sweat on her forehead, there was no other sign that betrayed her mental state.

No one in the room dared to even breathe loudly for fear of interrupting them, and the heart and mind monitor was not at an alarming level yet so the experiment continued.

After that kidnapping scene, the cute, obedient little girl was no more.

It was the birth of a grumpy girl that ignored her parents in retaliation, not that it made any difference since her parents hardly paid attention to her anyway. She talked rudely to them like a hedgehog, and no longer studied properly, which her parents only labelled her as rebellious and never took her seriously.

Her exam flunked, but her parents did not scold her, only telling her to work harder with a casual tone. It was their response that expected nothing from her that hurt her even more.

It was at the moment when she was recklessly running into self-destruction did she met a female teacher. That teacher approached her, treated her like a wounded cat and slowly got Wong Xue Guo used to her presence. Woojin does not know what their conversation entailed, as the scenes flashed past quickly to show they met up frequently. The teacher's patience finally got the wild cat to calm down.

Woojin was just letting himself follow the ride, and was confused when the scene abruptly changed to show Wong Xue Guo's mother. She was no longer red-haired, but black-haired. But the cold, indifferent expression remained the same. With a cold gaze, she walked away with her husband, away from their daughter.

After that, a young man with a cold face appeared before the entire scene abruptly disappeared like a poor TV connection.

Woojin groaned in pain from the sudden spike of headache when Wong Xue Guo suddenly flung his hand away.
