XG 127 - Old debts need to be settled before I die in peace

Wong Xue Guo looked at Chin Chun in surprise. "Is there a reason why?" Even if he did not ask her, she had already decided to undergo the Awakening process, but she wanted to know the reason why he wanted her to do it.

"If I had that gene, I would have activated it. But I don't have it, and could only rely on my small skills and knowledge to support Godfather and the gang. I would have thought that you would be willing to activate your gene to protect yourself and your parents."

Wong Xue Guo smiled and silently thought having his men spread their influence to Zinnia country should not be done by someone with 'small skills'. But his words shared that Chin Chun does have sincere feelings for his godparents, so there was no need for her to be so guarded towards him. "Yes, I did think of that."

Understanding that she would be activating her gene, Chin Chun nodded. "Xue Guo is a good girl."

Why is it that everyone would praise me like a kid whenever I did what they wanted?

Inwardly sulking under her smile, she glanced at Chen Yibo, who was smiling proudly at her. That expression pissed her even more that she sent laser eyes at him. Not understanding why she would suddenly look angry while smiling at him, Chen Yibo's proud expression was replaced with puzzlement and she did not bother to enlighten him.

Hmph! Why would I like this goody-two-shoes guy?

But at least she figured out why Chin Chun would talk to her well even if he had not shown his presence to her from the age where she could remember things. Anyway, how old was he? She would have to ask Kang Xunsu later.

"We've also known that God Grandmother had contacted you. I do not intend to spy on your phone, but the call records from God Grandmother are our special priority."

"Because grandmother is in Hosta country?" Wong Xue Guo's hand started to itch with the urge to grab her phone.

Then Chin Chun dropped a bomb. "Just like your name is in the list, God Grandmother's name is in it too."

Pupils shrink, Wong Xue Guo no longer resisted grabbing her phone and turning it on while internally scolding it for being so slow to start up.

"She will be fine," Chen Yibo tried to calm her down. "I have met your grandmother a few times, and could see she is a resourceful person. If she has the time to call you, it should mean that her business is settled. Her call should be asking where you are so that she can come to you."

Hearing that, Wong Xue Guo also felt that should be the case. Her grandmother was the type to focus on her task, even neglecting to keep in touch if the appointed time with her had passed.

"Young Master Yibo understands God Grandmother well."

"It's fine to only call me by my name. I'm not a young master of any sort."

Chin Chun chuckled softly. "Then you can also call me by my name, or call me 'elder brother' like Xue Guo."

Wong Xue Guo paid a little attention to their conversation and checked her call history. Five missed calls at different times, but no message. Before the apocalypse, her grandmother did not like sending messages and preferred making phone calls instead. In her view, she could protect her phone calls from being hijacked, but messages would always leave behind her tracks.

Does she still hold the same view even during the apocalypse era?

Are there still free people who would still want to spy on people's phone calls and messages?

"Elder brother, did my grandmother call my parents or you?"

Chin Chun shakes his head. "No. Godfather had tried to call her, but she rejected his call once and then ignored the rest. She might be doing something."

Luckily her phone still has forty percent battery left, enough for her to make a call.

Chin Chun had also constantly tried to call his God Grandmother and even once before coming to meet his Godsister. But it was no harm to let her try calling.

Wong Xue Guo's eyes turned downcast when her calls could not get through and after the tenth time, she finally stopped trying.

"With God Grandmother calling, it should not be bad news, or else she would have reached out to Godfather. She could have just missed you and thus called you," Chin Chun explained kindly.

"That could be so." Her grandmother must have thought she was staying in a safe place with her parents protecting her. She would never know that her only granddaughter was outside and exposed to danger when she made the call.

Suddenly thinking of something, she raised her eyes from her phone. "Elder brother, do you know what kind of debts grandmother wants to settle in Hosta?"

Her parents do not want her to know and her grandmother does not reply to her message, but maybe her Godbrother would tell her?

To her pleasant surprise, Chin Chun eased some of her curiosity. "God Grandmother was born in Hosta country, but it does not have pleasant memories for her. The reason she went back to Hosta now is that now is the opportunity to kill those people that harmed her without needing to fear the law. 'Old debts need to be settled before I die in peace', is what she said."

What Chin Chun said was enough for now. What those bad guys did to her grandmother can be asked later.

"Speaking of gene activating, I've spotted something interesting and need to do a body checkup before confirming anything."

"Your gene activation rate?" Chen Yibo immediately caught on. "The senior researchers said it might be because you experienced a near-death experience, similar to how Grandpa Song and Miu had activated their gene naturally."

"That could be the reason, but not a confirmation for my case, right? So I went to expose myself to a potential factor to see if my activation rate had changed due to it."

Chin Chun had actually kept track of Wong Xue Guo silently from afar since his Godparents did not want their daughter to be involved in the gang matters, including meeting the gang members. From what he had seen and known, from kindergarten till the age of twelve, her academic performance was good, securing top ten position in every test. But from age twelve onwards, her grades dropped drastically and at age thirteen, her grades went back up, but only to be maintained at an average level.

Was she hiding her intelligence? To keep herself low-key to avoid putting herself as a burden to her parents? Did she not know she does not need to, that her parents and the entire gang would protect her from every rainfall?

But Chin Chun would never know it was just Wong Xue Guo's motivation for studying was gone and basically just needed to make sure she passed her exams. All her free time was dedicated to movies, mangas, and games to fill the emptiness in her heart.

While waiting for the result to come out, Wong Xue Guo spilt out what she had done. Kang Xunsu, who had joined them after the guard finally returned with a new handcuff, added in some detail she missed out on.

Chin Chun's face was scarily calm while Chen Yibo was angry.

"So you force Woojin to use his ability on you?" Chen Yibo's face was grim after hearing the full version of how Wong Xue Guo had tested the theory.

"I only dared to do it because I could handle Woojin's ability. If not, I won't even dare to bet on it," Wong Xue Guo said confidently.

"You can't do that even if you are confident about it! You could have lost your mind!" Chen Yibo shouted. When he saw her staring blankly at him, he lost some of his anger. "Don't do it again next time."

"I will have to do it again..." A little dazzled by the rare anger display, Wong Xue Guo automatically answered honestly and saw Chen Yibo's expression become darker. "If I have really activated my gene through this method, I want to continue."

"And drive yourself crazy?" Chen Yibo asked in anger. Although he had not experienced it personally, based on Beom Seok's words, it was the same feeling as ripping the band-aid off the almost healed wound, tearing it apart again and sprinkling salt water over it.

"I won't. I know myself well and will stop as soon as I feel something is wrong," Wong Xue Guo promised. When he still looked miffed, she added, "You can stay beside me and pull me away if you think it's getting dangerous."

It hardly sounds fine, but thinking in the researchers' shoes, they would definitely encourage Wong Xue Guo to continue the experimentation.
