XG 122 - Are you firing me?

A morbid thought had Wong Xue Guo asked curiously. "What about his parents?"

"That kid refuses to say and we are not that interested in knowing about it so we did not ask twice."

"I still want to speak to him."

"Got it. I will come with you." Kang Xunsu had already tossed the blanket that covered his intact leg away and motioned for L.L. to get his crutch. L.L side glanced at Wong Xue Guo but did not say anything, letting both of them talk it over.

"Hold on, why do you want to come with me? Sick people should rest until they get well. The doctor will scold me if you get worse."

"I'm still your bodyguard. Your parents will have my head if I do not watch over you."

"Stop, I will bring someone else with me."

At her tough tone, Kang Xunsu stopped putting on his socks. "What's the difference between bringing me or others? Am I not any better than them? Or you are worried I would feel bad?"

"Since when did your self-esteem drop this low?"

"This isn't a matter of my self-esteem. This is about you refusing to speak about your thoughts."

Wong Xue Guo arched an eyebrow at his unrelated topic. "Since when did I refuse? I had just told you not to come with me."

"My little princess refuses to speak out her thoughts, her feelings and her worries. As her knight, I'm worried that she will blame herself for her knight's injury."

By now, it was very obvious that Kang Xunsu was worried about whether she would blame herself for Kang Xunsu losing a leg. He was indeed afraid that she would hide in her room and cry alone, and finding Woojin was just a lie to escape here.

Wong Xue Guo truly wanted to cry, but doing so would hurt Kang Xunsu and remind him that he had lost his leg. "Are you the one that finished off that shape-shifting woman?"

Kang Xunsu stared suspiciously at her clean face and the slight frown that conveyed her distress. "Wasted my new babies on her."

Wong Xue Guo looked thoughtful. "Once again, you saved my life."

"L.L. helped too, protected my back so that I can protect you," Kang Xunsu praised L.L.

"Thank you for saving me." Wong Xue Guo bowed at ninety degrees at both Kang Xunsu and L.L. "Saying that isn't enough, and so I shall promise you will get to stay in the base without needing to go to the field anymore."

Kang Xunsu faked a wounded expression. "Are you firing me?"

"I do not have the right to fire you. You are still my bodyguard, only that your duty will be slightly different. You will be handling things here, just like how Aurora does things for my mother."

Kang Xunsu sighed. "Aurora rejected me."

"Did she... what?" Wong Xue Guo stared at Kang Xunsu in shock.

"She refused to be with me even after knowing I had lost my leg and had a fragile mind."

"... Why are you being so shameless?" Most ambitious women would never find a partner below them or one that had lost his usefulness. In her view, Aurora was an ambitious woman, even if she had willingly become Suzie Yap's assistant.

"Don't you pity me? Throwing me away after I lost my leg and even forcing me to work closely with someone that had rejected me... I'm hurt." Kang Xunsu rubbed his chest as if his heart really hurt.

"I did not throw you away!" Knowing that she had broken her composure, she took a deep breath to calm herself down at Kang Xunsu's foolish play. "Losing a leg does not mean you are no longer useful. You still have two hands and one leg. My mother would not let you resign, but have you continue to protect me until you die. But I don't want that because I'm selfish."

"How is that selfish? Wanting a fully able body as your bodyguard is a good-"

"Just shut up," Wong Xue Guo cut Kang Xunsu off. "If I'm strong enough, I won't need any bodyguards to sacrifice themselves for me. What I mean by being selfish is... I want to keep you away from joining me on a field trip, even if I feel a lot safer with you by my side. You are good at planning and keeping people in line. No one would dare say you are useless without a leg."

"Why don't you just say outright that you see me as your good friend and do not want to see me get hurt?" Kang Xunsu teased, finally discarding his depressed facade. As for how he really was inside, no one other than himself would know.

Wong Xue Guo actually treated him as a pseudo elder brother, but remembering his smug expression, she would definitely not tell him!

Consciously straightening her back, she revealed something that could help Kang Xunsu blame her for his current state. "I do have one confession to make. I got a phone call during the fight with that face changing woman and got distracted."

There was no sign of her cell phone in her room and she had a terrifying foresight that it was smashed into pieces from the fight. With her sword already broken into two, she felt even more headache for having another important thing to her being destroyed.

L.L. raised his head from cleaning his swiss blade after finishing cutting the apple. "Did you just say you get distracted?"

"The vibration makes me distracted and it's my fault for getting caught off guard." If she continue to remain focused, the outcome might be slightly different, where Kang Xunsu might not need to lose a leg.

Kang Xunsu sighed heavily, not knowing that she nearly flinched from hearing that. Slowly making his way to her with his crutches, he rubbed her head like he usually did when she was sad that her parents once again did not attend the parent and teacher meeting. "It's okay to make a mistake for the first time. Just be careful next time. "

Wong Xue Guo quickly nodded obediently. "I know."

She noticed he was rather well used to using his crutches. Her eyes fell onto his empty left pant and moved her gaze away uncomfortably. There was no knowing whether it would be better to be hated or to be forgiven.

"Have you eaten anything? When did you wake up?"

"Not long ago."

"You must be hungry then. It's dinner time already. L.L, give your portion to her."

"No, I'm not hungry." Actually, she was not as hungry as she expected after skipping six days of meals. Did the IV drip successfully provide her with enough nutrients?

L.L passed her a meal box, ignoring her refusal that it was his dinner. "I can grab another. You have just woken up and need food to sustain yourself."

"I know, but I intend to only eat after speaking to Woojin."

L.L could see that she was speaking truthfully. He gave her a head pat like an older brother that was used to cleaning up his younger siblings' mess. As he and Kang Xunsu had been in her life much longer than other bodyguards, they could be seen as her elder brother figure.

"Then the faster we finish, the faster we can eat."

Wong Xue Guo stared at Kang Xunsu in disbelief. "You still haven't given up on following me? Did I not say I'm not going to hide in a corner to bawl?"

"You still haven't given up on stopping me from following you? Did you not say that I'm still useful even without a leg?" Kang Xunsu shot back teasingly.

"I'm just being considerate to let you rest. Since you volunteer so actively, I will allow you to escort me."

Kang Xunsu snickered at her princess-like way of speech, reminding him of a certain time when she grew fond of speaking that way to the bodyguards and helpers. "Thank you for allowing me to do so, princess."
