Chapter Five
Morris awoke to her whole body on fire. Every inch of her was tingling as she took in the sounds of crackling and hushed tones. Something cold and wet was pressed against her forehead and neck. Zooming out, one would see dark colors with browns, reds and golds. A fire ablaze in the fireplace across from the four poster canopy bed. A woman lay there in a white colored gown, sweat dripped from every part of her as he black hair lay thick around her shoulders. Nursemaid's scuttled to and fro trying to cool her body down without touching her thorns. Purple and black veins glowed from under her skin from under her eyes, down to her toes, falling like lightning traveling down from the sky.
"Any changes?" Morris heard a voice ask.
"No sir. Still no changes."
"Let me know the moment she awakes."
"Yes sir." The cloth on her head and neck now warm was replaced with cold ones. Morris's body convulsed from the foreignness raging inside in her body.
"Will it stop?" A voice squeaked.
"I think so. For now we just need to keep her cool and comfortable, that's all he asks for." A woman's deadpan voice said. After an awkward silence, a throat cleared and then a familiar voice spoke.
"I told him she wasn't ready to use it all."
"But he wouldn't listen would he?" Someone said with a snort.
"No. And now she is sick."
"You know, I recall this happening to Alexander as well." An old voice piped in.
"Really Martha. Are you certain?"
"Quite so Aren. The first time he exerted all his power, he became quite ill. That's when he was told to use his power little each day to grow into it."
"So what you're saying is. . .?"
"Is that his body had not yet welcomed in the magic-the foreignness of scientific factors."
"And?"
"And his body thought it was being attacked but day by day the more he practiced doing big things the less time his body had to fight back."
"But why would his body attack itself? Wasn't he born with his magic?"
"Yes but it lay dormant for many years until the day his sister died."
"Martha? how do you know all this?"
"Because, I'm his mother." With that, Morris lost the will to stay awake as the virus grew stronger.
