Chapter 1: Reborn
Shade suddenly felt a message in her mind. It was from the guardians. They wished her good luck on her new journey, explained how her gifts worked and stated some rules she was to follow. As their message faded away, Shade heard a beeping sound and heard a voice in her head.
"-BEEP-"
Shade winced at the volume and shouted "Turn it down." The beeping sound continued and softly beeped again.
"-beep- New contractor linked. Transferring information about the No-name system."
Shade who was dazed and surprised came to understand that this was one of the guardian's gifts, a system that had been passed only to Elire Queens, but she was the exception. It was going to help get her revenge and fulfill her testing as an Elire Queen. Shade decided to start with learning the workings of the system. She grasped it quickly due to her gift and decided to see her current status.
The system beeped in response then loaded a red screen before her eyes. As she scrolled through it she had one thought. This list was way too lengthy!

The system replied "Host these points were accumulated from your past life. The glare and disdain are mainly for mental combat while face slapping is for your haters."
Shade scoffed. "Why bother slapping their faces, I'll just slit their throats."
"Host that doesn't work in all situations, please don't turn into a tyrant..."
Underneath the list, there was a guide to how the status bar worked.
The current contractor can choose to change the name of the no-name system for convenience. The chosen name will be permanent and will have an effect on the appearance of the system avatar. The above states the current level of the contractor, Shade Young. The system will give out tasks every day in order for the contractor to upgrade to the next stage. The tasks get harder each stage. There are six stages in total: Fundamental, Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, Expert, and Elire Stage.
"-beep- Please pick a new system name or stick with current one"
Shade decided to name it the Red System. A small girl with red hair and clothes appeared looking cutely at Shade.
Shade was astounded. what was this? The girl had one eye! A really big one at that!
Shade coughed and looked away, "This..."
"Is host uncomfortable? Is it my one eye? I'm sorry if the host is offended. I didn't know the host was so superficial." the system said sobbing.
"Fine, keep it. It is a part of I'll just have to get used to it. By ht way what is your name?"
"Host chose the red system. So I'll go by Iracebeth"
"Okay, Iracebeth what next?"
She spoke cutely" Here is your first task"
Task: Learn and master 10 spells.
Difficulty: Easy
Rewards: Body strengthing pack(1), Beauty pack(1)
Duration: 30 minutes
Shade accepted the task and began until she was sweaty and tired. She shakingly stood as she walked to the mirror, her gaze firm and resolute as she recited the last spell. Shade smiled at the convenience. She was reborn the day she got her mark and got admitted to Eliris Academy. Shade felt a burning sensation and casually glanced at her mark. It was the same as in her last life, a phoenix. Which meant she had the fire aura.
As she looked at herself in the mirror her gaze turned cold as she remembered that this was the first day she met Eliza who was already in Fiona's body, the avalanche had already happened so she could not prevent it as she had been warned by the guardians not to mess with that event.
-Ding-
Task Completed!
Applying rewards now...
Shade entered her bathroom she closed her eyes as her body glowed with a faint pink aura, she grits her teeth in pain as she felt her body was on fire and when she opened her eyes she was covered in a thick layer of dirt and stink. Her five senses had been sharpened so the smell was really...overwhelming!
She quickly scrubbed it off and after a while smiled at her reflection in the mirror, her brown skin that was previously full of scars and scratches were gone leaving a glowing brown skin, her face had become acne free, her hair which grew longer and reached her waist became shiny with carefully defined curls. Her brown eyes got lighter now with a hazel shade. Satisfied, she brushed and put on dungarees and crop top then braided her hair into twin braids.
-Beep-
Status Update!
Shade glanced at the notification then tapped it.
The Physical Attributes bar was highlighted in red.
Physical Attributes:
Body: 50/100
Face: 50/100
Skin: 40/100
Shade closed the screen and ran downstairs eager to see her family, she paused when she saw her mom placing fruits into a blender and tears filled her eyes as she ran to hug her. Her mom looked down and smiled, her brown eyes full of love as she kissed her daughter's forehead " Hello love, did you sleep well?"
Shade nodded as she squeezed her mother tighter, afraid she would leave just like in her last life. Her eyes flashed with resolve this time she won't let her mom burn to death. She reluctantly let go and sat quietly at the table hurriedly taking a bite out of her Akara before her sisters came and cleared the food. The savory flavor of the pepper and onion overwhelmed her taste buds as she sighed in satisfaction.
Her mom glanced at her again"Shade, you look different. Did you use the skinotech products I gave you?"
Shade almost choked on her akara as Iracebeth warned her not to reveal the system.
"Yeah, mom. I did thanks for those."
A deep and warm voice came from outside as her stepdad walked in carrying in a box. He glanced at Shade and smiled" Good morning sweetie, did you sleep well?"
Shade nodded in response, then continued, eating slowly. Her heartfelt stuffy as she remembered how in her last life she treated her stepfather badly, she only realized how much she depended on him as she watched him burn to death with her mother. Shade fought back tears as she ran up to him and hugged him then whispered" I'm very lucky to have you...Dad."
Her stepdad paused then pulled away" What did you say, sweetie?"
Shade smiled as she blinked back her tears" I called you Dad, Dad."
Her new father laughed joyfully as he picked her up and twirled her around, He had been trying to get Shade to accept but she was always distant but now she called him... Dad. It felt like a weight was lifted off his shoulders. His wife walked into the hallway as she looked between them worry and confusion in her eyes" Yichen, Shade what's going on?"
Bisi knew Shade hadn't accepted Yichen as her father yet, but she believed Shade will open up eventually to him and her new sisters. But know both of them looked near tears... did something happen?
Shade laughed" We're fine, Dad and I were just talking about Eliris Academy"
Bisi gasped" Shade did you just-"
Yichen interrupted joyfully " Honey she called me her Dad"
"That's wonderful, Darling but why were you talking about Eliris Academy"
Yichen glanced at his daughter who quickly said" I have my mark now, so I was thinking about enrolling."
Yichen and Bisi look at each other in shock, when did that happen and how did Shade know about enrolment?
She didn't have a mark yesterday so it must have appeared this morning. This means she was chosen to be an Elire Queen candidate by the guardians. They pursed their lips, Shade can't get involved in those power struggles, it was too dangerous. But, their daughter looked so happy they couldn't crush her like that, they exchanged another look then smiled at Shade.
Shade narrowed her eyes at their expressions, she already knew that based on her past life her parents would want to hide her status as a candidate. She agreed with their decision now but in her last life, she refused to listen and under the influence of Eliza brought destruction to her family. So now she would not choose to expose herself yet, not until it was time.
" Honey, what does your mark look like?" They needed to be sure if she was a candidate before deciding.
" Oh," Shade replied," It's a phoenix."
Their faces darkened, this was bad! Their daughter had a high chance of becoming the queen due to this mark, it meant she was of pure blood! There was no other way than to change her mark temporarily for the time being. Their identity needed to remain a secret for them to survive. If those people found out their daughter had a royal bloodline she could die!
"Shade sweetie, we agree to send you to school but you have to hide your mark for us to guarantee your safety. Okay?"
"Okay, but I haven't learned manipulation magic yet," Shade lied smoothly "how do we change it? "
Bisi glanced at Yichen who conjured up a ruby heart pendant, he gestured for Shade to move forward and placed it on her neck. He instructed her on how to use it and she followed his instructions as her phoenix mark morphed into a tree symbol. Shade smiled to herself at this, with her new mark she won't have to explain her natural gift.
Shade went back to the dining table as Bisi and Yichen high-fived each other behind her. Soon they all sat at the table and started eating. Yichen glanced at the empty stairway and asked Shade,
"Where are your sisters? "
Shade paused, as she stared at the empty stairway then stood and walked up to her twin sisters' room. In her previous life, she disliked them, but after their parents' death, they became inseparable until she watched them die in front of her. Now when she was back she was nervous and excited to see them again.
She knocked on the door and heard a cold voice say "Come in."
She pushed the door open and walked in, then quickly bent down to avoid a flying shoe. Her sister Bai was on the floor digging through a box of shoes as her other sister Bao watched with a disinterested look. Shade smiled and said," Dad asked me to call you downstairs."
Suddenly the room was quiet, Bai stood up and glanced at Shade suspiciously " Did you say Dad just now? "
Shade nodded, not bothering to explain then left. A few minutes later Bai and Bao were downstairs astounded by what they saw! Their elder sister and their father were getting along and she called him Dad multiple times. Maybe, she had truly...accepted them. Soon they were briefed on Shade's situation and promised to help Shade protect her identity.
After breakfast, they all piled in the car and Yichen drove to Eliris Academy to enroll the three of them. Bai and Bao had already gotten their mark on their birthday last month, Bai's was a sun while Bao's was a moon. The car parked at the gold school gates and they got down from the car. Shade glanced at the gates with a hidden resolve in her eyes, in this life she would not be decided again. As she thought this a familiar car parked next to hers and three figures walked out, she looked back and her face became cold as she watched a red-haired girl bounce towards her excitedly.
Shade smiled coldly. She finally saw Eliza, the girl who ruined her in her past life.
