Mini Contests

About

SG Mini contests is a relatively new initiative brought to Savants in the form of fun bite-sized contests hosted mainly by Spinel243 and our dear cat consultant MeowMeow422. Sometimes I wonder why the prizes are not cat food. The purpose of SG Mini Contests is a fire-rapid tango, I'm talking about speed, and a fast way to gain graphic or writing skills. A shame to miss out if you're looking for some growth and fun.

March's Tag Fest Winner
Breaking the records with a total 22 tags-- the highest so far, we have KennyandEmo

Top Three (Based on Rank)
Participant: Baqkns
Score: 51.5/60
Submission Entry: Throne of Dragonix
Genre: Fantasy-Action
Graphic Designer: @NattKuznetsov
Sypnosis:
"Rebellion and Unification are the two opposite sides of the same coin-fear and confusion."

It was the darkest day in Dragonix's history; the self-sacrifice of the Emperor to stop the rebellion. Amidst the turbulent peace, came the selection of the next Emperor. Nine warriors from nine clans faced each other in a competition. And for the first time joined a new face, nicknamed the Great Aide's Ace.

Dragonix faced the risk of yet another rising rebellion. Behind the pretense of peace, the two Frontiers pitted their claws on one another. But amongst the chaos, a third party rose.

Dragneel Bloom, a wandering warrior with unknown origins, was summoned by the Great Aide to adhere to the origin of the third party with him as its pillar. With a resolve to restore the Universe's unity and upheld the other demolished races, they start with just five on the team.

But before that, would Bloom be able to reach the Great Aide safely?

Participant: CrystalCallistral
Score: 48.5/60
Submission Entry: The Gunner and The Florist
Genre: YA/Romance/Historical Fiction
Graphic Designer: @DarkAngelGraphics
Sypnosis:
There's a war in London.
No one knows how it started, and those caught in the fray can either struggle--or thrive.

Lennox, a florist, is one of those struggling. He's given an impossible task, to balance his failing family business with his judgemental and egotistical parents. Ren Ryker--a talented gunman from the opposing faction--might just be his escape route.

Ren, on the other hand, should be thriving. He's constantly praised by his leader, and victory for the slightly sadistic Crimson Syndicate is on its way. He should, by all means, be thriving in every sense of the word. However, he's beginning to realize that Lennox and his family may be the only way to stop his previously unrivaled success from crumbling before his eyes.

Participant: JaydenLThompson
Score: 48/60
Submission Entry: Breakout
Genre: Thriller/Action/Fantasy
Graphic Designer: JaydenLThompson
Sypnosis:
They say I'm a monster. A devil. Something evil.

They say that my abilities will only hurt others.

They say I'm locked up for the safety of others. I don't want to hurt anyone. I'm only dangerous when I want to be, and most of the time, I don't want to be dangerous.I just want to be normal.

I guess it's kind of hard to be normal when you're locked up behind a glass wall because of powers you can't control. But that's not my fault, is it?

I've been in this glass prison for two and a half years.  I've been experimented on thousands of times, and the scientists still have no clue as to what's wrong with me. I've begged and pleaded for them to let me out, to let me see the outside world even for just a minute, but they always refuse because I'm dangerous. I've given them every chance to listen to me, every chance to help me. But nobody will listen, so I will have to help myself.

I've been in this glass prison for two and a half years.  And now it's time to break out.

Glimpses of our SG Interviews with the winners (unedited)

Meow: For the record, please introduce yourself. Your (author) name, what contest did you win and what book did you enter.

Crystal: I'm Crystallia Calistral, and I won second place in the March mini-contest. I entered my main project titled "The Gunner and The Florist" I got into Watpad a couple years ago, and I found out about it via asking around. At that time, I was looking for a platform to get feedback on my story

Meow: How does it feel to win? Were you excited?

Crystal: It felt nice to win as I was confident about my blurb and cover, which was being judged for the contest. I was, I'm fancy, excited, as I pride myself with my work, seeing it win awards is very rewarding.

Meow: Is this your first time submitting to a contest? If so, were you nervous?

Crystal: No this is not the first time, however, I feel like every writer experience the jitters as the result are posted.

Meow: How did you get the idea for your blurb? Did you go through several versions or got it in one go?

Crystal: the idea for the blurb came from other books that I had read, as well as a yearning to put a lot of suspense/action into it where the lines "There's a war in London" and "No one knows how it started" lines come from. The blurb is probably on version 3, and I edit/add more words every once and while when I feel it would benefit it.

Meow: Do you have anything to say to the readers?

Crystal: Anything to say to the readers? I'm happy I've won, and I'm really, truly glad that my hard work means something.

This interview was conducted by one of our SG Interviewers MeowMeow422, and would not have been possible without the consent of CrystalCallistral, the winner of SG Mini Contest March.
