Peril/Cleril

Ooohhh boy.
Welcome, guys, to probably my most controversial opinion about WoF!

So, uh, I don't really have too much of a problem with Clay here, but oof, do I got issues with Peril.
It's not that I dislike her. I really enjoy all of her unnecessary violent lines. But when you think about it, they really are unnecessary. Yes, I get it, she grew up learning to kill. But... What development does she get? She doesn't really ever learn to be less violent, especially not if Clay wasn't there.
Yes, I know, Clay is the character that's helping her development. She improves because of him. But... there's a line. And even so, she doesn't even really develop. She just pretends to not want to kill everyone anymore, but we can clearly tell she is still very messed up. Yes, she does get a little better, but it's not pointed out. Tui doesn't say, "hey, look, Peril's developing as a character!" She's just like, "eh, I'm lazy, maybe we can just hope that they see she's getting better. I would make her think about her own improvement, but we kinda used up all that space with someone else... whoops."

Yeah, that's a big problem, too. Peril doesn't just have a simple crush. She is, pretty much, obsessed with Clay. She is definitely quite emotionally and romantically immature, and constantly thinks he doesn't care about her when he's with someone else. She's not externally possessive, but is very much so on the inside. She also fantasizes about him A LOT, and she wants to impress him so badly that she can't even think for herself. A huge part of a healthy relationship is equality, and Cleril really doesn't have that. It is treated like a simple crush, and Tui is really shipping it too hard herself. Clay is clearly oblivious until he is told multiple times by his friends, and even then he never says or does anything to create a stronger bond between them.

And another part of a good relationship is communication. If Clay can't even tell that his friend is obsessed with him, how could he tell what her normal feelings are? I mean, don't net me wrong, Peril is sometimes almost too good of a communicator, if you get what I mean. But just, not when it comes to Clay.

How I see a possible relationship between them going is, Peril immediately starts moving too quickly, Clay's a little freaked out, she starts wondering why he isn't acting like he feels the same, so she starts to get upset. But she just bottles up her feelings for fear of upsetting him more, until they just both decide they can't work out. Sorry Cleril shippers, but sometimes that's just how things work out.

And to be honest, it should work out with them both as equal friends, nothing more, and Peril has learned to get over him and maybe find someone new if she needs to. But I like the idea of a Peril who has learned that she doesn't need to depend on anyone else to be a good dragon, and so she starts helping dragons and being a STRONG INDEPENDENT WOMAN.

sorry I had to do that.

But I want to hear your thoughts! What do you think about- frik it, somebody argue with me, I'm bored.
