"How did you get that information?" Batman asked coolly, trying to keep his calm composure. He knew the answer, the boy has been hacking his systems for years, but it was still unnerving to know that one of your biggest secrets is being held over your head by a child.
"What? That you and Bruce are in cahoots?" Dick glanced at the one way mirror again hearing a bit of movement. "Looks like we have more guests watching us now."
Batman rose an eyebrow, before glancing the same direction as Rat was. The child did not openly say that he was Bruce Wayne, but they both knew that he was. So why did Rat cover up his tracks when others walked in? Probably to blackmail him or extort him is a reasonable guess, however something told him it that was not the case. "Can we return to the questions?"
Rat returned his gaze to Batman. " You know..we are not much different." He mused a bit, s knowing smile reappearing on his face.
"How so?" Batman frowned, wondering if he was actually going to take questioning seriously now.
"Well you see, Bats are really just rats with wings. We are the same, I just don't put myself on a soapbox to make me seem more appealing." It was true, Dick saw his parents murdered in front of him, just like Bruce Wayne. However, unlike the Bat, he didn't have a pile of money to go home to or a fancy butler. No, he had a sewer and his intelligence to work from, he did not have any helpful wings to help him out. Dick grinned more at the scowl that the bat had given him, did he really think that he would ever tell him his life story? Backstory Monologue is a villain thing, and it is one of the things that Dick Grayson hated the most. If he really wanted their stupid backstory, he would find it on his own. "So, give up yet?" Dick whistled a little bit but stopped when Batman pulled out utility belt like his, but smaller. "What is that?" Curiosity evident in his voice.
Just like Batman expected, he was definitely still a child with a lot of curiosity. "You said you would trade information for things that interested you, so..I offer you this in return for the information I want."
Dick stared at the utility belt "does it have other things inside of it, or is it just the belt?" He asked suspiciously, fingers twitching. If it were not for his wrists being handcuffed to the table and out of reach of the belt, he would have already been taking it apart.
"It is just the belt." Batman commented, seeing the boy's face scrunch a little bit in disgust. "However when you answer my question, each answer you will get something for it. Think of it as a game."
Dick pondered it for a second? "Can I pass on questions?"
"You will pass them anyway even if I said no." Batman deadpanned, crossing his arms.
Dick tapped his fingers on the table once more, pondering the deal. "This is unexpected Batsy, I heard you hated games."
"And I hear you enjoy them. So, are you going to take the offer or no?"
Dick shrugged, leaning back in his chair "Ask away oh mighty Caped Crusader" he smirked
Batman nodded with satisfaction, it looks like he has gotten through to the boy. "Question one, Why are you in Gotham?"
"Well you see... When I was a young boy my father took me into the city to see a marching band." Dick joked but noticed that Batman was not laughing. " I was not being serious, it is a song..tough crowd.." He grumbles slightly before giving a sigh. "I am in Gotham because I chose to be here. I had nowhere else to go anyway."
"And why is that?"
"No, that was one question, I get something now." Dick glared, not liking that the other was quick to ask more questions without giving payment first. "Rules are rules bat."
Batman sighed and pulled out three batarangs and placing them on the table, amused at how fast the child's smile returned. "Where is your family?"
Dick paused at the question for only a second. Sure he was over his parent's deaths, they were old wounds that healed with time, but that still does not mean that the old scars did not hurt every now and then when brought up in conversation. "Dead." He said plainly, mouth forming a straight line as he said it. "They were murdered here in this city, where someone decided not to save them. I suppose you heroes are selective in terms of people you save, but hey I'm sure it was something important that kept you away." Dick said, once again drumming his fingers on the table. "But now that you mention it, you were there. well not as you. But that probably brings us to your next question, which I will not answer unless the prize is worth my time and those people behind the mirror scram. Unless they are willing to pay the fee as well."
Batman frowned at the other's words, trying to piece together the information he had given them. Is that what Rat meant when he said they were the same, that they both witnessed their parent's murder? He glanced at the mirror, nodding slightly. I will comply with your request, but on one condition of my own."
"There is always a catch with you. Isn't my information enough for you?" Dick scoffed, The other had no room to make demands. Sure he was holding him captive, but even if the bat beat him to a pulp, he would not give it to him.
"All I wanted is confirmation that after this interrogation is done, you will stay until we know it is safe."
"Are we really going back to this? Really? I can handle myself!" Dick slammed his hand on the table. "I don't know if hadn't taken the hint or not, but in case you haven't..." Dick scowled "I do not like any of you and I would rather take my chances with the assassins then spend another minute in this place with your false sense of justice." Dick leaned back in his chair. "But something tells me that you plan on taking me as prisoner anyway, so why even bother."
"This is for your protection."
"No it so you can keep an eye on me so I don't leak anything, honesty Bats, I'm not stupid. You want to try and 'Rehabilitate' me so I don't end up on the other side. Can't you see that I am happy without you heroes screwing everything up? If you want my help and my favor, locking me up is definitely not the way to go."
Batman sighed slightly, knowing that he just put a lot of work on his plate with this one. However, the child was still an asset. An asset he was determined to bring to his side. Once he knew that the League had left them alone, he pulled out his final gambling chip, something he knew that the child had wanted to get his hands on for a while. He placed the holo computer glove onto the table. "Is that worth your time?" He almost smirked at the surprise on the boys face. "My last question is, What is your name?"
