Chapter Three
"Princess! Your knight in shining armor is here!" Chat called into Marinette's room, waking the sleeping girl.
"Chat, it's- 2 in the morning?! What are doing here!" Marinette whisper yelled at him, trying not to wake her parents.
"I brought a movie! It's called Avatar! You said you loved it, the first time we watched it together." Chat's eyes looked at the floor with a far away look, his eyes glossing over with unshed tears as he smiled faintly at the memory.
"I remember I said it makes no sense that we could make blue people and you asked me, 'you have a ring that gives you magical powers, and you doubt that we have the ability to do that?'"
Marinette looked at Chat with sad eyes. "Then let's watch this. Shall we?" She gave him a smile and he grinned before grabbing her laptop and crawling up her bed.
"Wait a second." Chat placed the laptop on his stomach and turned Marinette, so she was lying on her side and had half of her body on top of him. "That's better." He hummed and pressed play.
"C-Chat! W-Why did y-you do that?!" Though she might have sounded surprised and against it, she didn't move.
His heart was beating in unusual patterns as he felt the familiar position. Vanilla drifted through the air, and the sweet smell of home baked chocolate chip cookies.
"I have my own reasons."
He heard her steady heartbeat, which was pumping a little faster than normal, and saw the faint blush dusted along the tops of her cheeks.
Chat's heard her soft snores 30 minutes later and let his transformation wear off.
"I love you Marinette." He whispered and kissed the top of her head. He saw Plagg fly off to her computer before settling himself down on the keyboard and falling asleep. Adrien smiled and followed soon after.
~~~~~
"Adrien! Wake up!" Adrien groaned and rolled over, hugging his body pillow tightly.
"Not yet Plagg... Just a few more minutes..." Just as he was about to fall back to sleep, Plagg yanked his hair.
He let out a yelp but Plagg covered his mouth before he could wake up Marinette. Adrien rubbed the sleep out of his eyes as he looked down. His body pillow had actually been the girl he loves.
Mm... I wish she could cuddle with me like this every night... Maybe I could propo- no you dumbass! You're 15, not 20. And she doesn't remember anything about you.
Adrien let out a small groan before carefully unwrapping his arms around the sleeping girl. He quietly stepped down the ladder, and ducked outside before transforming and heading home.
As soon as he released his transformation, Nathalie knocked on his door.
"Adrien, it's time to wake up." Plagg hid and he opened the door to be greeted by his father's assistant.
"I have your schedule." She spoke in a monotone voice, handing him a piece of paper.
"Thanks Nathalie." She closed the door behind her as she left, leaving Adrien to himself in his huge, lonely room. Adrien sighed and slid his backdown the door.
"Adrien?..."
He dragged his hands through his hair and yanked it hard. He repeatedly tugged and pulled at the roots with his head resting in between his knees.
"I'm sorry Plagg. It's nothing, trust me." Adrien stopped and gave Plagg a weak, forced smile.
Plagg stared at his holder. He may not seem like it, but he was a very observant kwami, so it wasn't very hard for him to tell that the smile was phony.
Adrien's eyes were a slight pink that could easily go unnoticed, and was slightly fidgety.
"Adrien, I may not say this much, but I care about you. If you need to tell someone something, you can always tell me."
"I know Plagg, I know." Adrien sighed once more as he took a familiar necklace out of his pocket. The black paw laid beautifully against his tanned hand, twinkling in the sunlight.
The necklace he had given Marinette for her birthday.
He had planned on giving it back but it just didn't seem right. He gripped the diamond tightly as he felt his eyes sting.
It's not fair! I have to deal with a father who is too busy to even talk to me, never ending photoshoots, being the hero of the city, and the one thing, one person who meant more to me than this hell we call life, my light, my Princess, doesn't even remember me!
His unspoken words ate at him, tearing at his mind. The red string, the fact that it was gone, is making him go crazy. He felt like he was to his limit. If that red string, the string that was supposedly never to break, was gone, than that meant he'd loose his girl.
I can't give up on Marinette. I won't.
He held the fist that was holding the glittering necklace to his chest as he breathed heavily.
I will get those memories back. I have to. If I don't, I don't think I can stay here anymore... I-I don't think I could go on...
He wanted to think that that thought was foolish. He truly did, but he couldn't. He couldn't draw himself away from it. He couldn't tell himself that that was not the solution to all of his problems. And he felt like he should be scared of that. But he didn't. He felt...
Numb.
And only Marinette could make that numbness go away.
"Adrien, it's time to leave for school." He took another deep breath before snatching his bag, which Plagg flew in to, and walking out to his limo.
At least I'll see Marinette...
He closed his eyes and leaned his burning forehead against the cool glass.
And I feel sick.
As soon as Gorilla pulled into the school parking lot, Adrien left the car and walked up the steps to the school, meeting up with Nino.
"Bro, you look like a truck hit you, what's up?"
"I feel sick, s'all." He slurred a tiny bit, as Nino and him walked to their classroom.
"I can tell dude. You're face is all red and sweaty. Maybe you should go to the nurse and rest. Remember what happened to Marinette when she didn't?"
Adrien smiled fondly at the memory.
Marinette had gotten sick a few months back. She was sneezing and coughing uncontrollably and kept falling asleep in class but refused to leave. He still could imagine her face.
It was pink, carnation pink, and had little beads of sweat here and there. She had dark purple bags under her bluebell eyes.
Mrs. Bustier got so worried that she made Adrien force her to go to the nurse and to help her home.
After he got her safely home, a certain cool cat paid her a visit and helped her get better.
"Really Nino, I'm fine. Plus, you're the only person who can tell so far. If it's really bad, I'll stay home tomorrow."
