Chapter Four
Tried as he may, Adrien was inevitably sick.
He groaned in frustration and annoyance. He didn't want to stay home alone sick.
Maybe it's time Marinette paid me back...
He called out Plagg's name and transformed before clumsily making his way to her balcony. He crash landed after sneezing and tumbled around on the floor.
"Chat?" Marinette's head popped out of the trap door as she worriedly looked at the black cat. "What are you doing here?"
She offered him a hand, which he gladly took, and stood up. He brushed the snow off himself before giving her a bow.
"I'm here to visit my Prince- ACHOO!" He sneezed and fell forward but Marinette caught him. He leaned on her shoulders as she held him up.
"And I may be a bit sick."
She placed the back of her hand against his sweaty forehead and quickly pulled it away.
"Kitty! You're burning up!" She helped him inside and laid him down on the chaise, per his request.
"Stay here. I'll be right back." His eyes lazily followed her as she ran down the stairs. He glanced around the room. It still looked the same, but now, the picture she drew of him was in black and green frame with a black wooden paw print at the right corner.
"I'm back." Marinette made her way to him. She had a bottle of medicine for what he presumed was for his fever, a thermometer, and a bowl with a small towel in it.
She set the bowl down on her desk and kneeled down in front of him.
"Open your mouth." He did as she told him and she leaned closer to him and placed the thermometer in between his lips.
He gave her a weak smirk.
"Anytime for you, Princess." He winked and she rolled her eyes in response and the thermometer beeped. She pulled it out and her eyes widened.
"39! Chat! You shouldn't be out like this!"
"Should I go home?"
"No!" She placed a hand over her mouth.
"Honey, are you okay? I'm coming up!"
Marinette's eyes widened.
"Move over!" She grabbed a thick, dark blanket and threw it over him. She dove under with him and pressed him flat against the wall so her back was pressed against his chest.
She tugged the blanket over his head, covering him from her mother's view as Sabine opened the door.
"Marinette! What's wrong?"
Chat wrapped his arms around her waist, trying to keep himself from shivering.
"Oh my! Your face is all red sweetie! Are you feeling well?"
"Not really momma. Is it alright if I stay home?" Chat furrowed his eyebrows. He couldn't make her miss school! He pinched her side and she jumped as he held her down.
"Of course you can!" Chat heard Sabine walk back down the stairs and Marinette pulled the stuffy blanket off of him and grabbed him by the chin, pulling his face close to hers.
"What was that for?!"
"I didn't want you to miss school for me."
Chat grinned as he noticed the distance between the two before having an idea pop in his head.
He pushed forward and kissed her. It was just a peck as he pulled back, still wearing his stupid smirk, and stared at her blush covered face.
"I-It doesn't matter! I can't just leave you here with a 39 fever! Now shut up and let me take care of you." She got up, much to Chat's disdain, and poured some of the cold medicine into the cap.
"How old are you?"
Silence filled the room.
"Same age as you."
He watched her pour the dark red liquid into the clear plastic cup and handed it to him.
Chat sat up and gratefully took it, and forced the thick disgusting medicine down. When he swallowed, Marinette was already walking back with the bowl in her hands.
"Lie down." She instructed, lightly pushing on his chest. He complied and closed his eyes as he lied down.
Suddenly, Chat felt warm hands move his damp hair off his forehead before a cold wet rag was placed on it.
"You take such good care of me, Mari."
He never opened his eyes but he could feel her smile.
"Anytime for you, Kitty." She threw his line back at him. He could feel himself faintly blush in response and smiled softly.
He could feel himself drift to sleep as Marinette pulled the previous blanket over him. Just as he was a few seconds away from sleeping, he felt a pair of familiar warm lips touch his forehead. The soft lips stayed there for a few seconds before pulling away.
"I wish I could remember, Chaton..."
Then he fell into the darkness.
~~~~~
When Chat came to, Marinette was curled up in a ball next to him with the semi dry towel gripped tightly in her small hand. He felt himself smile and tried his best to contain the fit of coughs that tried to escape.
"Kitty?" Marinette murmured as she stirred awake.
"Afternoon, Princess." Chat gave her a cheeky smirk before lying back down. He coughed before he continued.
"Thanks for doing this for me. It's strange. I've never had anyone actually take care of me when I get sick. I'm usually just left alone."
He felt Marinette's sad gaze on him.
"Well if you're ever sick again, you can always come here. I'll take care of you then." His heart swelled, as he stared at the amazing girl in front of him.
"Thanks Marinette. I'll make sure to keep that in mind the next time I get sick." Marinette smiled, but after a while she started to shift in her seat.
"Do you want to watch another movie while I go make you some chicken noodle soup?" When he nodded, she raced downstairs to start boiling the chicken broth. Chat didn't want this special treatment to end. He's never really been pampered quite like this before. Before, he was usually pampered as Adrien Agreste, famous model of Paris. It wasn't special treatment because they cared about him, it was special treatment because they wanted him to stay to make them money. But this, this was love. What Marinette was doing to him, making him feel... It made him glad.
He no longer felt that emptiness he was feeling yesterday. Right now, all he was feeling was the warmth in his heart as he scrolled through her laptop to find a movie for them to watch. His clawed fingers suddenly clicked on a movie, a familiar one that he just knew could bring at least some of her memories back.
His grin didn't waver as he tried to sneak down the stairs. He heard Marinette's parents inside the bakery as he made his way to their living room.
"Marinette, sweetie, I can make you soup if you want me to." Chat heard Sabine call from the kitchen. He quickly ducked under the couch before bringing an arm up to snatch a familiar heavy quilt and sneaking his way back up the stairs.
"I'm fine, maman. Plus, the bakery is really busy today." Marinette faked a small cough and had a nasally sound to her voice. "It's just chicken noodle soup."
Chat wrapped himself in the quilt and placed the laptop on his legs as he heard Marinette walk up to her door.
"Chat! I have your soup." She called quietly as she opened the door leading to her room. Chat watched her set the bowl of soup and the spoon down before tugging her in by the waist, pulling her into the quilt with him.
"Mmm, warm." He teased as he nuzzled his nose into her neck. He saw the blush that crept its way down her neck and coated her ears and gave a smirk.
"You won't let me kiss you on the lips, right?" Before she could answer, Chat pressed his lips to her neck, lightly nibbling and biting around, leaving a dark red bruise behind as he drew away.
"Let's watch the Proposal, shall we?"
I made this chapter extra long. And since I haven't done a QOTC for a while, here's one.
QOTC: What's your favorite movie?
AOTC: Either Sorority Row, Ice Age, Shrek, or Alvin and the Chipmunks. What can I say? I'm a child at heart.
Until next time, peace!
