...
He still looked older than her.
He still had a few scars which she could spot coming down his eye, crusted, and looking like they had probably hurt a lot when they'd come to life, initially.
But his eyes.
His eyes still had the same emotions that she had seen so, so many years ago.
It was hard to believe, being here with him at the moment, standing there holding his hand, watching his eyes gaze over her features, lovingly, that they were so different, that they had changed so much in the years that had passed in between... it was as if nothing at all had changed between them.
Maybe that was why the Grid had forgiven them.
Maybe that's why, as they stood staring at each other, the world around them burst into sparkles. There was something so strange about everything that was happening with them. The magic of the Grid at it's most beautiful. The Grid seemed to have relieved them of their sufferings, and gently patted them on their backs, saying 'children, go, and have a good life, together.'
It was as if the world around them was reconstructing itself. Amelia watched as an almost musical whirring sound filled the atmosphere, teardrop like rain touched their skin in only a soft drizzle, and everything around them came back to life in a way more beautiful than anything either of them had ever seen before.
"Javi..." she ran her hand over his chest, unable to believe what was happening. He looked down upon her, and smiled, "Amelia." He said. There was a heaviness in his voice that felt unfamiliar, yet something she was so used to.
The world seemed to be healing, and healing, along with it, were Javi and Amelia.
She leaned up on her tiptoes, and gently pressed her lips against his, softly at first, but then growing passionate, as their bodies and minds aligned, and they found out just how starved they had been from each other. She felt his gloved arm wrap around her waist, while hers moved uphill arm, feeling him through the thick cloth, and feeling like a million fireflies were spiralling around them, like a fire continuously raging between them had come to a stop, feeling complete holding each other in their arms.
They split apart, seconds later, and he placed his forehead against hers gently, and stared into her deep brown eyes, which moved as if taking his entire being in, drinking him through her gaze, and capturing the moment in her mind forever.
"We made it?"
"We made it."
....
Only a few days ago, Javi Garcia had been the Overlord of the Universe.
Javi Garcia had been the person who could create and end galaxies with a mere wave of his hand. He was revered, he was respected, he was worshipped and he was admired, but most of all, he was feared.
But now, none of that remained.
Not like Javi had wanted any of it, right from the beginning.
All he had wanted was Amelia. And now that she was here, she was alive... Javi didn't want anything more.
Amelia had been brought back to life. It all came back to Amelia, and only Amelia.
Twenty years had passed since Amelia had died, and in those twenty years, Javi had found himself damaged irreparably.
Amelia's death had scarred him. His friends too, but him, the most of all. Lord Zedd had been a menace, one of the greatest threats they had ever faced, and with the cosmic powers by their sides, they knew they had been chosen as Rangers for a reason, to protect the universe and the Grid from Zedd's wrath.
They had inherited the legacy of countless rangers before them, and paid homage to them, doing their duty— and Amelia had sacrificed her life, trying to defeat Zedd.
She had succeeded, but at what cost?
Javi had found himself losing a little bit of his sanity every moment he realised he was drifting further and further away from Amelia, and her memories.
Everyone around him seemed to slowly move on, slowly stop thinking about Amelia— but even months and months later, Javi found himself obsessed with the thought of her.
Looking back upon this, later, Javi wondered if that was because he'd had feelings for her for a long time, and that was the reason why he'd gotten so obsessed.
As time passed, he'd started to realise how much he had wanted to be with her, to be around her, to have a future with her in it, and all of it was... gone... now.
Gone for good.
There had been so much that was left unsaid, so many things they had needed to do.
If Zayto could come back, so could Amelia, though, no?
Zayto had come back because Lord Zedd was a threat huge enough that required all of their powers, that required Zayto in particular, to return, and to fight for the cause... if he could be a threat big enough to damage the fabric of time, maybe they could bring Amelia back to battle him.
Sure, she'd be his enemy, but at least she'd be back, at least she'd be real.
Javi hated the thought of losing to even destiny, when it came to Amelia. It wasn't his character, sticking to things, but Amelia's death had changed something in her. He knew he'd wrestle her back from even the hands of the grim reaper, if he had to.
The Morphin Grid worked in strange ways. It bound people together, along with their colors, when two rangers married, it brought lovers together, it had a nature of not being overly cruel, unless be it in some exceptional cases— soulmates were brought together, like two colors crossing the intersect, every once in a while.
Javi knew he needed to bring her back.
The Grid could be benevolent on him. And if it wasn't, Javi wasn't going to be easy— he knew he could be stubborn if he needed to be. He knew he would bring Amelia back.
And he did bring Amelia back.
It took setting his humanity aside, it took dabbling in dark arts, the side effect of which had now covered the entirety of his left arm, the one which had not been damaged when they were cosmic fury rangers, with dark veins that hurt him in his sleep, and woke him up screaming sometimes. It also took massacres of people he didn't even know, and cruel destruction of planets that even fractured parts of the Morphin Grid. Some bad advisors had told him the Grid would repair it all, and he sincerely hoped that was true, waited for a reset of the universe, but he knew it wouldn't come, until Javi became a threat as big as this ' Lord Drakkon' had been...
He never let his parents find out about this, though. He never let Ollie, or Aiyon, or Zayto escape that mirror dimension either, where they were living their lives, without even realising their lives were a lie, a mere figment of Javi's power.
It took becoming a threat huge enough, that had the morphin masters worried. It was only after he cold bloodedly severed the head of the green morphin master from his body, with one blow of his axe.
The feelings that surged through him were unreal, though.
When he saw Amelia reincarnating in front of him, he knew he had won. Even if she had been born to kill him, he knew he had won. Even if she looked at him with a pain he had never seen before, he knew he had won.
She looked as young as the day she had died, her skin still perfectly clear, her hair still the same length, the same hazel brown and warm, with golden highlights in places. The same lips, the same body, the same eyes. The only thing different was the way she looked at him. There was so much love in her eyes now... Javi couldn't believe it was real.
Everything about her was alluring to him. Everything about her made him feel giddy, as if he was nineteen again, as if none of the things he had done, had actually happened. She felt the same, but he knew he had changed. His body was older, so was her mind, she had been watching him all these years— but more than that, Javi knew he was scarred. Defeating countless enemies came at a cost, and that cost showed at every marking on his body, from the veins of dark magic, whose support he had taken, which was eating away at his life force day by day, to the scars that had been given to him by scorching torches and non-terrestrial metallic blades. He'd done all of it for Amelia, and every single scar felt like it had been an offering in the name of Amelia, a stepping stone in his path to bring her back.
But she was here to kill him, now. She wasn't his best friend and teammate anymore.
She was his nemesis.
...
Amelia had watched Javi's decline from the grid. She had cried to herself, wishing she could stop him. She had wandered around in the halls of the castles Javi had built, had hijacked. She was a ghost, and she couldn't reach him, no matter how much she tried. But she'd seen him feeling her presence. She'd seen everything he did, and she knew everything he had done, he had done for her, and slowly, over the span of years, and years, Amelia found herself falling deeper in love with this man, than she had ever before.
Javi was something different, but whatever he was, he was hers. He'd submitted himself to her, forever, and she could see that.
It hurt her, thinking she would have to someday come to life, would be called back to life, to kill him. She didn't want to do it, but she didn't have a choice. And she knew Javi knew it too.
She had things she had wanted to ask him, too, and she was waiting for her moment.
The green morphin master's murder had been unexpected, but it had been just the last straw, and then the masters had given her the permission to descend back on Earth... descend back, and free the world of the tortures of Javier Garcia. In her heart, she knew Javi had succeeded in what he had wanted to do, but she also knew that now her duty placed her, she was supposed to be out for his blood.
But watching Javi stand in front of her, in the middle of the raging battlefield, he felt so happy. He didn't care she was here to destroy him.
She'd never known anybody like him. And she had heard in tales of loves like these, that happened once in lifetimes... Javi was that love for her.
Javi left his axe, the second he watched her descending from the heavens.
The worlds were destroyed, the moons and the suns all creaking open into parts, as the Overlord and the Resurrected found themselves face to face with each other. The dust from the battle field rose up and down, but the two just stood and stared at each other, no words feeling worthy enough to be said...
Until she screamed at him.
"Javi, are you insane?"
He had seemed taken aback by the way she had just screamed at him, but then he'd laughed, "why?"
"Javi, do you know how many lives you took, trying to bring me back?! Do you even know what you've become?! Are you really the same sweet boy who I used to watch staring at me from across the desk at Buzzblast? Because you sure as hell don't feel like it..."
She'd wanted to ask him this since the very beginning. How could this guy do things that were so out of his character... how.
"I still love you the same. Does that count?" He had tilted his head, "and look at you, you're back! I've won, already."
"And how many times exactly, are you going to bring me back, Garcia? What if I die again? Would you be able to manage that?"
"As many times as I need to" came his reply, still looking a little insane.
"Javi no. You NEED to get over yourself!? Get over people! Nobody is supposed to live forever!"
"True." He looked down at his feet, for a second, as if formulating an answer for her, and then looked up, straight into her eyes, through his distorted face, which had just a small element of what she recognised from all those years ago, "but you were taken before you should've been... I just don't think that's fair"
"Was it worth ruining your life, and that of everyone around you, though, Javi?" There was p[ain in her voice, pain Amelia hadn't even realised had been there, until she said the words out loud.
His smile didn't waver, "not one bit"
"Like I said... you're insane, Javi"
"Maybe in another universe, I wouldn't have been... but here, right now, this is all I have. You are all I have"
"I don't want to destroy you, Javi" she felt the tears coming, but he just shook his head, "do what you have to. I'm waiting"
He didn't put up a fight. She was crying as she attacked him. Every second of their battle was wrong, and it had ended in him lying in her arms, injured by her hammer as never before. He hadn't tried to resist a single blow, just welcoming every single one of them, with a lovesick smile.
And just as she felt him dying in her arms, she had cried.
"Don't you dare die on me" she had told him, and he had laughed, spitting out blood from his mouth as he did, "or what? You'd become a cosmic overlord to bring me back?"
She'd also laughed through her tears, hearing him joke even at a moment like that.
"You bet your ass, I am"
And then the grid had taken mercy upon them.
...
After putting the two of them through numerous trials and tribulations, the Grid had finally taken mercy upon them.
She'd never felt so alive, as she did when he touched her.
As he had laid, closing his eyes and letting the Grid take him to heavens, the Grid had taken mercy upon the star crossed lovers, and somehow, reset everything. At that moment, the two of them hadn't understood what was happening, but every single bruise Amelia had inflicted on Javi slowly disappeared from his body, and slowly, their powers shimmered into nothingness, leaving the two into the Rafkonian outfits they had once worn together, ages ago.
The battlefield also faded, and they were lying in the grass... sunlight streamed through the forest, and kissed their cheeks, Javi slowly opened his eyes, and his gaze met with Amelia's...
"Is everything I've done coming undone?" He asked, his voice still hoarse, and Amelia nodded vigorously through the tears.
"Are you disappointed?" She asked, a little scared to know the answer.
He laid his head back in her lap, gently, "No. Not one bit. I've got you."
"Do you know I love you?"
"I do... or you wouldn't have cried while striking blows at me in battle"
"I hate myself"
"So do I" Javi closed his eyes once more, revelling in the feeling of being in close contact with Amelia, in a place where nobody could touch them. They didn't know the extent that the morphin grid's healing capacity could have, and they would probably have to find out, sometime. But right here, right now, in a place where nobody could come and disturb them, or take them away from each other, heaven, or earth, or heaven on earth, the Grid seemed to be whispering to them, 'I'm sorry we can't go back... I'm sorry for all the things we can't remember... but I'm glad we did it... so maybe let us hate each other a little less now?'
The world seemed to be healing, and healing, along with it, were Javi and Amelia, touching each other, holding each other close. Entwined in each other, never to be thrown apart again, if they could help it.
A light in the sky, a dance in the night, a touch of the moment and a stars in the eyes... it all seemed to come together. They were relieved of their suffering.
The hate would disappear in time, the life would come back... maybe they weren't as ill fated as they had perceived themselves to be.
Because their love would always be there.
