#84 "Power Of Hope"

"I'm curious about something, Woozi," the interviewer tend to him and continued, "have you ever made a special song that you like, but you haven't released it in public?"

As Woozi thought of something specifically, a smile slipped on his lips. "There is," he answered.

"Really? May I know the reason why you kept it hidden?"

"Hmmm," he let out a long pause. Keeping his mouth shut, he answered inwardly, "Because I made it just for that person."

His interview ended with unfinished answer. But even though it is, (Y/n), who was watching the show through her cellphone, can tell the next words that will probably come from his lips. Why not? Since she's the only one who knew that special piece of his.

Reminiscing the old days, she remembered a certain memory she has with Woozi.

"What are you doing there alone?"

Teenage Woozi looked at her while holding his guitar. "I'm trying to compose a song."

"Again? Wow. That's very nice." She sat down across and watched him plucked his fingers playfully at the strings. "What's the title of that song?"

"Hmmm," with husky hummed, Woozi looked up and narrowed his eyes. "Hope?"

"Hope," she repeated. "The melody is so sweet, it really does gives me warmth."

"I made this for you so glad to hear that," he whispered in low tone, avoiding her eyes.

Though she heard him loud and sound, she pretended she didn't by asking, "W-What d-did you s-say?"

"Nothing," he shyly excused.

Then (Y/n) changed the topic. "You're too good in playing guitar, Jihoon-ah. I tried playing that before but my fingers hurt."

"You should play it for many years so you could have callouses in your fingers. With that, it won't hurt anymore."

Speaking of callouses, she traced the pale hands of his. His left hand is white but it has callouses on each of his fingers. "Woah!" She gasped as she unknowingly grabbed his hand and pulled it closer for a better view. "Your callouses are thick!" Amazed at this, she gently touched each of his fingers: his thumb, his index, his middle, the ring finger and his pinky. "Maybe if I play as hard as you then..."

She couldn't continue her excited remark as soon as she saw his face. It was as red as rose.

As if a static of voltage ran through from her hand that was touching his, (Y/n) quickly pulled her hand back while blushing.

Oh how dare of her, holding a guy's hand without notice.

"If you're dedicated to learn," he murmured without looking back. "There's hope."

"Y-Yeah. Probably."

A silence settled in the space.

"..."

"..."

Afraid he'll hear the sound of her heartbeat, she broke the silence with a bid, "oh well, I should go now."

"Wait a minute!"

She looked back and saw his flustered expression. He looked like he was hesitating to say a thing. And so, she asked with a smile, "Yes?" It's a sign that whatever he'll say, she will accept it wholeheartedly.

Woozi then fidget his fingers, looked down and uttered, "Actually, I made this song for you. Will you stay for a moment and listen to it?"

After (Y/n) reminisced the old days together with him, she went to bed and fell asleep.

The next morning, she woke up in a good mood. She played the recording of her favorite song as a part of her morning routine.

The song goes like this:

"You with a long black hair,

Something in your eyes that told me I am at the right track,

Your hands kept me warm,

And as long as I am within your sight, there's a sweet smile on that pinkish lips

You gave me hope, hope in the endless nightmare

A string that keep me alive before falling in a deep well

This time I wanna be you

You who told me: Cheer up

You who told me: Just smile

You who whispered: Tomorrow is another day

I wanna be you

As much as you wanted to be with me"

She kept replaying the song again, again and again. Until another memory flashback together with a sweet melody:

"I got in! I will go to Pledis!" Excited as the sun in the East, Woozi celebrated.

(Y/n) was so happy that finally, her friend will fulfill his dream of becoming a professional singer. But behind this, she's sad 'bout parting from the person she cherished the most.

"What's with your pout?" Woozi laughed at her sulky expression.

"Huh?"

"Don't worry, I'll visit from time to time. It's not like we won't see each other anymore. Beside, if I got really famous, you'll be proud of me, right?"

She answered a bitter smile.

"Argh, seriously, cheer up! You're always positive so why are you being so emotional," he teased.

She shook her head and walked closer to him. "Woozi."

In close gap, Woozi could see her face up close. Therefore, he gasped, "W-What?"

"Do well in Seoul. I know you'll gonna make it."

"Well, thanks. I will do my best."

"If you became famous, then can I sell the song you made for me?"

"What?! Are you crazy!?" He furrowed his brows.

Enjoying his annoyed reaction, (Y/n) kept teasing. "Why not? It's mine already."

"Don't do that! I'll feel bad," he sulked.

She just laughed at his cute tantrum.

"And also," he continued. "The song isn't complete yet."

Her smile faded as he shifted his serious gaze to her.

"The moment I came back, I'll finish the song. So wait for me. Okay?"

Even though she wasn't sure that they'll meet someday, she promised, "okay."

Now, years passed by.

(Y/n) can see him everyday through her phone, the television or heard his famous group's song "Hitorijanai" in radio.

But the promise of meeting him in person after he succeed is still unfulfilled.

"Can I really hear the rest of the song?" She sadly chuckled.

"(Y/n)!" A friend called her and she looked back.

"Oh, Jen. Good morning."

"Good morning too!"

(Y/n) turned off the recording of Woozi's song. With that, Jen chuckled, "you're listening to it again?"

She shrugged her shoulder as her answer.

"By the way, what's the song's title again? I don't think I've heard that before from anywhere."

"Of course. It's mine."

"Your song?"

"Hmmm. Someone composed this for me."

"Wow. That's very romantic. Was he a lover?"

(Y/n) chuckled again. A famous celebrity as his lover? That's funny. But it's true that she has feelings for him way back then.

"Oh right! I almost forgot!" Jen gasped. "Some famous group will perform today. You should come and listen."

"Should I?"

"You should! Stop locking yourself inside your room and get some fresh air."

She once looked at the recording before she decided to go.

As they went together, she saw a pile of people gathering at the center. So she went along, peeking who it might be.

"Hello! Say the name, SEVENTEEN!" An introduction that echoed on her ears.

In the stage where 13 handsome men are shining, one person caught her eyes.

"Jihoon," she whispered.

It happened. It really happened that they meet again. However, she's thinking of running away. Because she doesn't have the courage to face him, not now, not today, not tomorrow or NEVER!

Yet, she couldn't move at all. (Y/n) just stared at him while smiling sadly.

"Our Uji prepared a performance for everyone," Seungkwan announced.

Walking shyly with his guitar, Woozi sat down at the center. He briefly looked back to his member before taking a deep breath.

"Let's give our hands to him!" Seungkwan cheered and everyone clapped.

Woozi tested the mic by humming a little. Then, he strummed the guitar and checked if it is on tune. Ready for his performance, Woozi first spoke about the song he is going to sing.

"This song is a special piece that I wanna sing a particular day, time and moment. But since it's been years, I think I have to show it earlier that I planned. The title of the song is: Power of love. I hope you'll like it."

He strummed the guitar. Then a sweet melody slipped from his lips.

"You with a long black hair,

Something in your eyes that told me I am at the right track,

Your hands kept me warm,

And as long as I am within your sight, there's a sweet smile on that pinkish lips

You gave me hope, hope in the endless nightmare

A string that keep me alive before falling in a deep well

This time I wanna be you

You who told me: Cheer up

You who told me: Just smile

You who whispered: Tomorrow is another day

I wanna be you

As much as you wanted to be with me

In times when I looked at the sky,

The moment I know I couldn't reach it

I thought of you

The sky is you

Whenever I am having a hard time, I looked up and smile

I reminisced the day when you're by my side

The hope you gave is still within me

And someday, I wanted to give it back to you

In the times when you cried

In the times when you are also giving up,

I'm here

I'll be with you

Because I wanted to be you, as much as I love you."

Tears fell on her eyes. She couldn't believe she'll hear the rest of the song before everything ends.

If only he could hear her from the stage, (Y/n) will say: 'Thanks. Thank you for giving me the song of hope."

As Woozi continued strumming his guitar, his eyes met her. The moment they looked at each other for the first time after years, a throbbing pain squeezed his heart.

He stared at the girl who is smiling widely at him — that woman who is mumbling "Thank you," while she is sitting at the wheelchair.

When Woozi sang the last part of the song: "You with a long black hair,"

His voice cracked.

A pool of tears ran down to his cheeks as he continued to sing, "I love you."

(Y/n), who doesn't have hair anymore, smiled at his confession.

-----

The end.
