#62 "Bias' Bias" (part 10)
Wonwoo is mad...mad JEALOUS. He is aware that right at this moment, (Y/n) and Woozi are together. Thus, he couldn't help it but to stay near the dorm's entrance and wait for Woozi's arrival. He was walking around, glancing at his phone and at the wall clock.
"It's almost 12am," he worried. A man and woman together in the middle of the night, is it really normal for him to feel anxious? He doesn't have the right but it's an inevitable reaction.
More minutes have passed. As if he has no time to feel drowsy, Wonwoo sat on the sofa with clear gaze towards the door. A small creak of it will help to ease his anxiety; Just a little hint of someone's arrival is enough.
'Einngk'
Finally, the door has opened and behind it is the person he was waiting for. "Oh?" Woozi gasped when he saw Wonwoo stood up from the sofa.
As they are looking each other in silence, the main reason of Wonwoo's jealousy poured his mind like an eruption. Even if Wonwoo wasn't confident that he'll receive (Y/n)'s reply before Woozi, he still expected to receive one. However, until now, (Y/n) haven't even read his message. Unlike Woozi who got her reply and went back home after his meeting with her, Wonwoo hopelessly stayed at dorm after the group's tiring practice.
'Isn't this unfair? I'm her bias,' Wonwoo complained inwardly and his sour expression washed his face.
Since Woozi notice how bad Wonwoo's mood is, he decided to say nothing. He stride in while looking forward.
"You met her?"
Woozi wanted to remain silent as much as possible, but now he could not because of Wonwoo's interrogation. He took a deep breath first before tilting his head to him. "Uh. We were together."
"Ahhh," Wonwoo sighed, stared down and then clenched his fists.
Of course, Woozi isn't blind to ignore his expression and body movement. Wonwoo doesn't express his feelings much, yet this time, his emotions are as clear as water but hot as fire.
'Where did it go wrong?' Wonwoo questioned everything. For (Y/n), a carat and Wonwoo's fan, to ignore his message is impossible unless he did something he should not.
'Was it wrong for me to express my feelings?' He wondered. Then, their conversation through call flashback on his mind.
[ "Wonwoo? Are you still there?"
"Don't love me."
"Huh?"
"Starting from now on, don't love me as your bias."
"Did I creep you out? I'm sorry."
"No. Just, treat me like a normal guy. Then..."
"Then?"
"Let's fall in love in a normal way."
"..."
"..."
"..."
"Did I surprise you?"
"Huh? Ahhh..."
"The meaning behind my words, I know you understand it."
"..."
"But you don't need to answer now. Take your time."
"Uhmmm."
"It's late already so let's sleep. Thank you for answering my call, (Y/n). Goodnight."
"Uh yeah. G-Goodnight, Wonwoo."
"Dream of me." ]
What he did was an indirect confession which wasn't on his plan. An idol confessing to his fan that he has a crush on her all of a sudden? Who will believe it's possible? Wonwoo knew how impatient and immature he was for doing it. However, he choose to do it because he's scared. Woozi came into the picture of his one-sided-crush and that makes him irrational.
"(Y/n) told me about your confession," Woozi spoke out of a sudden.
Him, who was in deep thoughts, lifted his head and received his gaze. "What?"
"Your conversation with her through call last night. It seems that was the reason why she could not open your new message. She doesn't know what's the right thing to do right now."
That's it. Wonwoo got the answer he wanted to hear. But why would Woozi disclose this when he's a rival?
"So I did the same. Confessing, I mean," Woozi added.
Someday soon, Wonwoo knows it will happen. Still, he doesn't feel okay. "Did you say that you like her?" He asked with a little coldness on his baritone voice.
"No." Woozi shook his head. "I didn't say it directly but I'm sure she understands my words. Unless she's an idiot."
When Wonwoo decided to stay silent again as he licked his lower lip, Woozi uttered, "So we are walking in the same pace together. She isn't replying to my latest message," he chuckled.
"I'll pursue her," a serious answer of Wonwoo that crooked the corner of his lips downward. "I like (Y/n). I'm still confused if this is love but... I wanted to know more about her."
"Do what you want," Woozi rebuked while he narrowed his eyes. "I'll do what I want and you do what your heart desires." He turned back against him and put his hands inside his pocket. "But don't overdo it. We're celebrities after all, an idol to be exact. One wrong move and we'll put everyone in difficult position. So if you're tempted to do something, learn to have a long patience."
"You made it sound you were tempted about something. Did something happen a moment ago?"
Woozi started walking. In thick air, he whispered, "Yeah. I almost kiss her inside my car."
Fortunately, Wonwoo didn't hear it. But one thing is for sure: That tonight, the battle for (Y/n) has officially started.
Tomorrow morning, Wonwoo woke up early and went somewhere. He wished to see (Y/n) at the chicken and beer restaurant where she's working. He stood at the entrance, bearing the cold breeze of upcoming winter.
The sun shone brightly up above the cloudy sky. Yet Wonwoo haven't seen her shadow. So he went inside and asked some of the employee.
"Will (Y/n) come at work today?" He asked. Wonwoo is wearing a mask and cap so his identity will remain hidden.
"Who are you?" Employee replied, sending suspicious look towards him.
"A f-friend." His lie made him clear his throat while fixing his cap.
"Ahh, friend," the employee nodded. "(Y/n) was fired yesterday."
"What?"
"I don't know the exact reason why our boss fired her but that's what I've heard. If you are her friend, doesn't it make sense if you contact her rather than coming here?"
Wonwoo couldn't answer. He isn't her friend nor a person more than that. For (Y/n), Wonwoo is a celebrity she wanted to see on stage - her favorite performer.
Failed to see her, Wonwoo went back to his celebrity life. Today schedule of his is individual appearance of a variety show. Wonwoo and Seungcheol are the show's guests but they have separate missions.
"Hey Wonwoo, are you okay? Your complexion today isn't at its peak," the Pd asked him while other staff fixed his microphone.
"Ahh, no Pd-nim. I'm alright," he plainly answered.
"It's all set," the staff said after fixing his microphone.
"Thank you," he uttered in low voice.
Their show's setting is at the middle of Seoul's street. Due of Wonwoo's eye-catching looks, he gathered a lot of attention as expected. Some stopped for a moment to take a picture. There are carats couldn't contain their excitement by shouting his name. "WONWOO!"
"WONWOO OPPA! MARRY ME!"
"YOU'RE SO HANDSOME!"
"I LOVE YOU!"
But majority of the people outside was busy. They took quick glance at him and passed by as if his presence isn't a big deal. Well, this is busy city after all. Everyone has their own life.
Inhaling deeply, Wonwoo tried so hard to hide his nervousness. Although his palms are sweaty, he is smiling as he listened to the PD's instruction.
Working alone without the other members is such a hard task for Wonwoo. Unlike Seungkwan and Mingyu, Wonwoo is an introvert who cannot really express himself with or without camera. That's why it is always a challenge for him to work while making sure he does it right. The show should be fun.
"Your first task is to find a random girl who's wearing rose quart and serenity clothes. Then you will ask her for a date today. If she declined your offer, it's okay. We can find another lucky person for the show," the Pd explained.
"Okay."
"You're ready now?"
"Yes."
"All right!" The Pd stepped backward. She turned at the cameraman, gesturing that he can start filming their star.
At the slate, Wonwoo stood in front of the camera and smile.
"Say the name, Seventeen! Hello everyone. I'm Wonwoo from Seventeen," he greeted. "As you can see, I'm today's guest of 'Date an idol' show. Baksu~" he chuckled then shyly clapped his hands. After throwing glances side by side, he folded his fingers one after another then continued. "My first task for today is to find my date. Rose quart and serenity are our fandom's color. So, in order to find my girl, I have to search here in the middle of the street. The first person I saw wearing clothes with those colors will be my maiden."
The Pd nodded at him and gave two thumbs up to show that he is doing a good job.
"Uhmmm, so..." Wonwoo looked around as well as the camera.
There are many people passing by. He has poor eyesight so he needs to focus dearly on his search.
"Why is it hard to spot a person wearing rose quart and serenity today?" He laughed.
At last, they spotted a girl from the distance. She's wearing the perfect clothes for his partner!
"Wonwoo! There!" The Pd pointed the girl.
Wonwoo tilted his head and saw their first prospective star. He was ready to approach her but...
"Oh?" He gasped. On the other side, he saw a familiar person who's also wearing rose quart shirt and serenity skirt.
The other girl is farther than the first one. So although she's a prospect, it is mostly natural to approach the first woman. However...
'(Y/n),' Wonwoo gasped inwardly. The second woman he saw is (Y/n).
As if the world's color and sound faded but left only her on his sight, Wonwoo dashed towards her.
One step.
Two step.
Three step.
"Wonwoo?!" The Pd called him while still pointing the first girl near their place. She was confused why Wonwoo took the opposite direction.
Four step.
Five step.
Six step.
The camera follows him.
Seven step.
From slow pace, he took big steps to catch her.
Eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen and...
SEVENTEEN.
Wonwoo grabbed her wrist.
The wind shook her hair as she tilted her head to him. When their eyes met, they held their breaths.
"W-Wonwoo?" (Y/n) called.
Wonwoo doesn't believe in destiny. But for once, he wanted to believe it exists.
"Hi. I'm Wonwoo of Seventeen. Can you be my date for today?"
A sweet genuine smile formed into his lips.
