#35 "Too Late For Everything(?)" part six
I thought I wasn't in the picture of my husband's messy love triangle. But I was completely wrong.
"Give it back." I snatched my phone from his hand.
Joshua is wearing his wedding ring but I pretended that I didn't see it. Why should I when he quickly hid his hand behind his back? That shows how Joshua hates the idea of getting caught which might embarrass him forever.
As if nothing happened, I turned my back against him and the door. "I'll prepare for my work."
Although I looked calm outside, my mind was frenzy with surprising stuffs I witnessed today. Who would have thought that the girl my husband loves, Bea, is Junhui's stepsister?
The love cycle right now is Joshua to Bea, Bea to Junhui, Junhui to me and I to no one. 'Since when did I enter their love rivalry?'
'No no no. Marrying Joshua was a mistake from the first place.'
"Don't tell me..." Joshua's words that paused my steps. I tilted my head in wonder about the next thing he'll say. "...that you are still planning of going back to that night bar?"
Wearing his wedding ring and then prohibiting me to meet Junhui, I might think he's being possessive because of jealousy. Thank goodness I knew that he likes Bea so I won't be bother by those useless guess.
"Are you..." I opened my lips then pointed the paper bag that was on the floor. "...going to eat that?"
I was talking about the sandwich Bea made for him but was wasted because she dropped it on the ground after getting pulled by Junhui.
"I'm asking you first," Joshua responded in unusual cold tone.
Smiling sarcastically, I remained quiet. It was due of knowing that no matter what I'll say, he'll make me the bad guy in this conversation which is true because I really am; (Y/n), the selfish wife.
"Do you like him?" he asked out of nowhere. Joshua was gritting his teeth and furrowing his brows. He looked at me in a way that he'll get hurt me if I say 'Yes, I do.'
It might be because of his damn pride. He maybe can't accept that he lost her girl to Junhui and now, his wife has something to do with the same guy. Joshua was pissed.
"Uh, I like him," I lied.
Instead of saying that I did it for revenge, I'll see this as a part of my consideration. Joshua will divorce me for Bea so with this lie, he won't feel guilty that much.
Joshua stared at me. His lips tremble a bit, I'm sure he wanted to say something but nothing came out. He gulped, making his Adam's apple moved down then up.
"Five months are too long. I have a lawyer friend so she'll help us with the paper works."
"Do you want for us to separate as soon as possible?"
"Hmmm. So you can be with Bea as soon as possible too."
"And you can be with Junhui?"
No. After our divorce, I wanted to stay away from them. This chaotic relationship, I'm really sick of it. However...
"Yes," I lied again.
My husband didn't say a thing. His eyes were fixed on mine but he looks blank.
'Yes, dear. Let me do this. Let me hurt your pride so we can separate without lingering memories. Hate me and forget me.'
"I'll send you the divorce paper," I said then walked inside my room.
One week and three days had passed since that. Joshua and I didn't see each other since I was away for business trip and he went to HongKong for work. Within those days, neither Bea or Junhui came to visit. I also didn't go to that night bar to avoid him.
"After this, I'll adopt a daughter," I whispered to myself while entering the house for the first time after my long business trip. "A son is hard to manage," I continued then left my heels behind. After tapping my feet on the doormat, I walked north but stopped when I sniffed the reeking smell of alcohol.
The lights in the living room were off so I groped for the switch by using the faint light coming from the kitchen. When brightness enveloped the surrounding, I saw my husband on the couch.
'Why is he here? His secretary said that he'll come back next week so I sent the divorce paper to HongKong yesterday. Did he come back as soon as he received my email?'
It could be because above the center table were bottles of wine, a piece of paper and a pen.
My husband's face reddened. His eyes look heavy as he placed the back of his hands under his chin. He was staring at the television, but I think that he might already saw me using his peripheral vision.
'What should I do? I shouldn't say anything, right?'
"Come here," he commanded. When our eyes met, the surrounding was filled with such intensity.
"I don't want to. You're drunk," I replied.
His shoulders went up, then down as he released a long sigh. He stood up to approach me while his hands were inside his pockets. The smell of the alcohol got stronger by the time he reached me...he pulled me... he cupped my cheeks and kissed my lips.
'Damn. He's out of his mind!'
I pushed him away then held my lips. Joshua was catching his breath while staring at me. His lips were tainted by my red lipstick and I didn't know that it would make it him looks more sexy.
"Isn't this what you want? You wanted a baby so why are you refusing?!" he shouted.
I do. I do want to use him for my own greed. But it was a good choice that we haven't done it yet. If I'll bear his child, then escaping from their mess is impossible.
"All this time, you didn't see me as your husband," he uttered then placed his hands above my shoulder. "You just wanted to use me and live happily with your child."
I wanted to say, 'You're doing the same thing,' but since there's no point of proving something to a drunkard, I pursed my mouth.
"So, do it. Use me," he whispered before he pushed me against the wall. Warmness settled on my neck, nibbling it and maybe leaving mark on it. I'm not a saint that won't get affected and so, my mouth opened with a small moan. "J-Joshua," I called his name as if I am begging him for something.
His hand roamed from my shoulder down to my back; it pulled me close to his body and I felt his hardness; pressing his body so much, I was sandwiched between him and the cold wall. From my neck, his kisses went upward and he didn't fail because my lips were already parted to receive his.
There were sloppy sounds coming from our mouth as we kept on kissing deeply and I just couldn't ignore it.
'If we don't stop... we might do it. I might get what I wanted but I'll probably regret it. Yes, I will. And so...'
"I don't love you," is what I've said between our kisses.
Joshua freeze. He slowly moved back, staring at me in close gap.
"You're right," I said while catching my breath. "Doing this with someone you don't love is wrong. Now I know why you refused me so much before."
He moved backward then bowed his head. "Ri...ght," his voice cracked in the middle. Joshua turned around after shoving his hands inside his pocket again. "So I already signed the paper. See you in the court, and let's start from zero."
I see. So Joshua already signed the paper. But his actions opposed his words. What did he mean by starting from zero?
News about our divorce has shocked our families. Dad nagged me so much that left me no choice but to stay to my friend's house for a moment. Some of my things are still in Joshua's house so that means we will see each other again soon, and I hope it'll be our last meeting.
Since I'm not rude to leave things unsolved, I went back to the night bar to meet Junhui. My intention was purely to inform him about my divorce and to say that I don't like to keep in touch with him – these are my steps for my successful flee.
"Knock knock~"
"(Y/n)..."
"You look like someone who saw a ghost. Well, if I'll be a ghost then I'm a virgin ghost. Boo~"
"..."
"What? Are you going to stare me forever? Give me my usual. I really need to drink right now."
"You look like you're in a good mood. Something good happened?"
"I don't know if it's good of bad. But I broke up with my husband. I'm finally alone again."
The expensive wine glass slipped from Junhui's hands. Thankfully, before it hits on the floor, Junhui caught it. He looked at me with widened eyes and opened mouth.
"Hey," I laughed. "You have the same reaction just like my dad."
"Are you..." he let out a long hesitation. "...really saying the truth? I mean..." He scratched his head and blinked swiftly.
'Lol. He lost his coolness just now.'
"W-Why? Why so sudden? I thought...ahmmm y-you..." he stuttered. Junhui took a deep breath to calm him. When he already did, his insightful response has returned, "Is this because of me and Bea?"
I nodded my head with a smile. "Yup."
"I..." Junhui looked away. "...am sorry."
'He's apologizing? Wow. I didn't see this coming.'
"Don't be apologetic," I reassured. "I didn't break up with him for you. In fact, I'm here to reject your feelings."
"..."
"This will be our last meeting, I hope so. You should like someone else and..."
"I don't want to," he cut me with these strong remarks. Right now, he looks like a stubborn kindergarten kid.
"Why?" I teased. "Do you really like me so much?"
"Damn much."
His voice and his stare were serious. As a 31-year old woman, I didn't expect that my heart will flutter with silly words like those because I do believe that everything for me is too late.
"But you just met me," I reasoned out.
"No. I like you for 12 years. So how could you ask me to stop this when it's already too late?"
12 years? He knows me since when? I can't remember anything about him. Just, who is exactly this man?
"That was too long," a familiar voice resonated beside me. Tilting my head, I saw my ex-husband; he's sitting beside me. "So the reason why Giselle couldn't get you was because of her?" Joshua inquired to Junhui but his eyes were on mine. "Hey (Y/n), all of this mess was your fault."
"What are you doing here?" I asked.
"I'm curious about this favorite place of yours." Joshua looked at Junhui with an annoying smile. "You there, give me a drink."
Pissed off, Junhui still choose to play with his game. "Good evening our dear customer. What do you want to order?"
"I want someone who's very selfish, someone who said what she wanted and someone who can eat her cereals even without milk," Joshua answered.
'What the hell. Did he describe my personality just to embarrass me?'
"Sir, we don't have a drink like that," Junhui answered.
"Stop messing around and just order what you want," I sighed.
"I already said it." Joshua met my gaze. "I want that someone. And you know, it's you, right?"
"..."
"I like you."
