#18 "Hesitating no more"
In our classroom, there's this handsome man who's like a ray of sunshine. Unlike me, he's very energetic, friendly and witty.
"Banana haha!" His loud laugh maybe annoying to others but for me it's more than a melody.
"Dokyeom! Will you please shut up!" The smartest of us complained since she's reviewing for our Science quiz later.
Dokyeom is handsome and talented. He's a perfect guy everyone might adore, but not in our classroom. Our girl classmates were sometimes annoyed when he's noisy and unstoppable. He loves making funny faces and telling disgusting jokes which got him the circle of attention for my guy classmates.
Girls typically fall in love with someone cool, right? The possessive and bad boy type are trendy nowadays. However, even if none of my girl classmates has a crush on Dokyeom, there's someone like me who couldn't take her eyes off him.
"When I woke up, I saw a bug as big as my butt!" Dokyeom shared. He was sitting face to face with his friends, there above the desk.
"No way. Lol."
"Dokyeom, you're crazy."
"I'm not joking," Dokyeom chuckled.
It was my daily routine – to peek at him in secret.
"Why don't you all believe at me?" He spoke with a laugh.
The corner of my lips lifted upward as I giggled along. I dropped my gaze for a moment, to my hands on the desk then looked at him again.
Dokyeom is looking at me with serious gaze.
My mind was stuck between avoiding his eyes or staring back. I felt suffocated with an earthquake inside my chest and a tsunami in my stomach.
I hardly bowed my head and gawked at my sweaty hands.
'Did he catch me stealing glances?'
My eyes searched for him once again, but he's gone.
'Where did he go?'
"Hi."
I tilted my head to my left side with rounded eyes. Something squeezed inside my chest and I was afraid that my heart just bursted right now.
Dokyeom is sitting beside me. His elbow was placed on the desk while he put his chin at the back of his hand. Beaming so wide, he greeted, "Hello."
'I wanted to greet him back!'
My mouth slight opened but no words escaped from my lips. It was his visuals fault! I can't seem to find my sanity while looking at his super duper close handsome face!
"Did you have your lunch?"
'Come on (Y/n)! Say something!'
"Guys guys! Sir is coming!" One of our classmates announced. Everyone who's every side of the room scattered like ants then in a flash, they were all properly sitting down.
"Dokyeom, get up. That's my seat," my seatmate complained to the guy beside me.
"Geez, I'm about too," Dokyeom murmured. He stood up and went back on his seat.
I still couldn't calm my ass but deep inside, I was so happy.
After our afternoon class, Dokyeom went out together with his friends. They skipped cleaning again I guess.
As I walked on my way to the bus station, I couldn't forget my stupidity. That's the first time he approached me yet I let it passed without saying anything! Stupid!
"Oh? My bus!"
Because I was out of my mind, I didn't calculate the time. My bus just passed by before I got at the bus waiting station. It isn't the last bus for today but I have to wait for another two hours.
"Very stupid."
The moon is already saying Hello there on the purple sky. Stars aren't visible but I know they exist, just like thinking that Dokyeom is having fun with his friends even if I don't see him in front of me right now.
"You're still there?"
A familiar voice called me. I turned around and...saw him!
"Did you miss your bus? Awww, that sucks. Then, about I'll take you home? Come on. Hop in."
Dokyeom is riding on his bike. He stopped at the side just to offer me a free ride. I could see his crumpled uniform inside his unclosed bag and now he's just wearing a white shirt which was his underneath garment. His hair is wet as well as his face.
'Maybe, he played basketball with his friends.'
"Don't you wanna ride with me? Is it because I'm wet with sweats?" He chuckled.
'I would love to! I would like to wrap my arms around his waist and leaned my cheek on his back!'
"(Y/n)?"
"I..."
The second bus arrived.
The two of us looked at the bus then back at each other.
"M-My b-bus is here." I quickly got up and hopped inside my bus.
If I could only turn back the time, I wish I was brave enough to step forward on his side. But no, I'm not. The usual me is a girl who can't speak out her mind.
Many time passed by.
Dokyeom never approached me after that incident again, until we graduated in highschool.
Now, I'm working as magazine editor. I have no idea where and what's Dokyeom doing now that we're both adult. One thing is for sure, he'll remain as my sweet first love.
[Hi. This is Cindy, your seatmate during highschool. Remember? Our former classmates wanted to have a reunion tomorrow. Can you come?]
I received a text from an unknown number. Although I am not a social person back then, I can still remember all of my highschool classmate's names.
Every year, my highschool classmates held our reunion. But I never accepted their invitation. I always knew that I don't belong in any group, and I will only feel outcastes just like before.
My phone popped up another notification but I left it unopened.
Tomorrow morning, I strolled around the city to chill out. There is a new chicken and beer resto bar and because I am curious, I went in.
The interior design has retro vibes on it; old vehicle's plate hanging at the wall, vintage telephone at the counter and wood tables. It took me back at the time when mom always played Beatles' music in our house.
"This is your chicken and beer ma'am," the waiter gave my order.
"Thank you."
I sipped on my beer while looking at the mini aquarium on the side. The fish house was decorated with pirate theme. Cute.
If only I'm an artistic person, maybe I'll go around taking every pictures. Lol. But that would be embarrassing.
"Kyle! Stop it!"
"Hahahahaha! Hey! What's with that hairstyle Peter?"
Loud cheers came from behind. I guessed it came from the other table behind me.
"Cindy, when did you get married?"
"Last year. Hey Allysa, I saw your post on Instagram. Was it fun travelling at Paris?"
"It was! That place is my majestic."
"Awww. I would love to there too."
Kyle, Peter, Cindy and Allysa. Wow. They have the same name with my... WAIT A MINUTE!
I peeked behind me and saw some of my high school classmates sitting at the back!
Why are they here?!
"Here comes Jayson! Wohoooo!"
So, our reunion meeting place is here?! I checked my unopened message from Cindy yesterday.
[Meeting place: Je'meite chicken and beer resto bar. Time: 10am]
Oh gosh! This coincidence isn't really good! What would I say if they saw me sitting alone in here for about an hour already?!
"Dokyeom dude!"
Dokyeom? Dokyeom came too?!
"Yow, wazzup people," he greeted.
As if my head has automatic remote control, I looked back to glance at his face.
Dokyeom is wearing red coat with black turtle neck shirt underneath. His dark brown hair was brushed up and he has two silver piercings on his left ears.
"Wow chicken! Give me some!" He perched down between Cindy and Mark. Before his eyes met mine, I tilted my head away.
He's damn gorgeous.
I don't know if it is only the alcohol I drank but my cheeks feel hot.
"So how's are cutie patootie Dokyeom?"
"Still sexy. Lol."
"Oh shut up, that's creepy."
"Hey give me some chicken!"
"Dokyeom, wash your hand first."
"I already did!"
"Veronica said that she's on the way."
"Wait, we still aren't complete right?"
"Well, some of our classmates are busy."
"Have any of you contacted (Y/n)?"
"I did. But she didn't reply."
"Awww. Dokyeom is gonna be sad."
"Lol, stop it," Dokyeom chuckled.
Huh? I became their topic all of a sudden.
"Why why why why?" Cindy asked. "Why would he?"
"You all probably don't know but Dokyeom has a crush on (Y/n) since high school," Mark shared.
I freeze on my spot as my heart skipped a beat.
"Mark, shut up," Dokyeom screamed with a laugh.
"WHAT?! OH MY GOSH, I DIDN'T NOTICE!"
"Guys, please stop," Dokyeom kept on trying to shut them away.
"How? Why? What do you like about her?"
"Dokyeom, tell us."
"Right. This information is too shocking."
"Well ..." Dokyeom shy voice went on. "She's my first love indeed."
"Wiiiiiiiiiieeeeeee!" Everyone teased.
My body went stiff and everything I heard feels like a dream.
"Then why didn't you court her before?
" I tried ~ but (Y/n) don't like me at all. She kept on avoiding my eyes whenever I looked. She doesn't respond when I talked. I really think she hates me for no reason."
"Admit it Dokyeom, you were very annoying back then."
Mark laughed, "hahah agree!"
"Is this how you'll comfort me?" Dokyeom complained.
"Wait. I'll call (Y/n) and beg her to come."
"Cindy! No!"
"That's right Cindy! Call her!"
"No way! Hey!" Dokyeom kept shouting.
"Steven! Help me! Hold Dokyeom's other arm!"
"Aye aye."
"Let go of me!"
My phone suddenly rings from my pocket. It was too late for me to turn it off since the silence already pierced around us.
I could feel those piercing gaze behind my back.
Truly, I couldn't turn back our old times. However....
"I...like you too." I faced him and our gazes have met.
