116. To Be Her Part 2

"Mr. Yoon Jeonghan doesn't know that his wife died."

Sitting in the back seat of the car, I looked at Secretary Wonwoo – the person who asked me to pretend to be my twin sister.

"Just fill in as Madam for a while, and I'll handle the investigation into her death," he explained, handing me a folder. I opened it and found some basic information about my late sister.

"Apparently, she was adopted by a wealthy couple and was forced into a marriage with Yoon Jeonghan for business reasons," I read aloud, looking back at Secretary Wonwoo.

"You don't need to know all the details. I'll just tell Mr. Jeonghan that you've lost your memory," he assured me.

I placed the folder on my lap and made up my mind. "I'm not getting involved in this."

Wonwoo paused and gawked at me with his sharp eyes.

"I was surprised to know that I have a twin sister. However, I have no interest in deceiving people. That's just plain wrong. All I want is a peaceful life, no drama."

"Miss (Y/n)," Wonwoo said. "I noticed you're not working a regular job and struggling to pay your bills. Your landlord might even kick you out soon. But if you pretend to be Madam Heeyoung, you'll live a life of luxury. You won't even have to work."

I scoffed and replied, "Seriously? Did you actually dig into my background?"

He adjusted his glasses and mumbled, "It's just a small thing. It's important to know someone's background. Finding out where you work was the next step."

I rolled my eyes and clicked my tongue. He must be really desperate to drag me into this mess. Sorry, but money can't buy me.

"I mean, I love money," I admitted. "But I'm not willing to risk my life for someone I've never even met, even if she's my family. Let's just pretend this never happened."

I was just about to step out of the car when something caught my attention.

"Was it Joy Orphanage?"

His words about the orphanage I grew up in made me freeze in my tracks.

"I know how much that place means to you," he said, his gaze shifting towards me. "With a simple phone call, I could destroy it."

Anger surged through me, and I felt a renewed strength in my hands. Without hesitation, I grabbed his collar and pulled him closer.

"You son of a...!" I yelled. "If you lay a finger on that orphanage, I'll make sure you regret it!"

"Perhaps you misunderstood me, Miss (Y/n). Harming the orphanage is just the beginning. If you refuse, I can do much worse."

After his caution, I suddenly grasped the fact that I had already gotten myself caught up in this deception even before declining. So, I had no other option but to agree to play the role of Mr. Yoon's wife.

Dressed in elegant peach clothes, Secretary Jeon Wonwoo led me to the mansion where my twin sister used to reside. My jaw dropped at the sight of the enormous mansion. Who on earth lives in a place like this?

"This is absolutely crazy," I muttered to myself.

Suddenly, I locked eyes with the maids bustling around the house. They stared at me wide-eyed and whispered amongst themselves, "The madam has returned!"

Before I knew it, the maids had gathered in the living room, stealing glances at me from a distance as if I were some kind of monster.

Do I really give off a cannibalistic vibe or something?

Wonwoo leaned in close and whispered, "The maids are terrified."

I glanced over at him, standing by my side. "Why are they scared? Do I look hideous?" I questioned.

Wonwoo observed me, and after a moment, he responded, "You look beautiful."

"..."

"..."

His compliment not only caught me off guard, but He seemed rather shocked, too.

Wonwoo avoided my gaze and continued, "The stylist I hired worked hard to make you look just like your sister. That's why."

I let out a frustrated sigh at his second comment. Couldn't he just admit that I'm cute?

"So, why were they scared of my sister?" I inquired.

Wonwoo replied, "She's... really intimidating."

"That's it?" I asked.

Wonwoo turned towards me, but instead of responding to my question, he shifted the topic, "Listen, your twin sister's husband will be arriving later."

He successfully diverted my attention. "Are you sure he won't suspect anything?" I whispered.

Wonwoo replied, "You'll have to act like someone who has lost their memory. Even if you behave strangely, he'll just think it's because of the memory loss."

I nodded. That's why Wonwoo hadn't told me much about my sister. I had to convincingly portray someone who knew nothing.

"Wait a second. Can I ask one more thing?" I demanded. "What was the relationship between my sister and her husband? Were they close?"

Wonwoo pursed his lips, but instead of answering, he seemed distracted by something. His gaze shifted upwards, and he pointed in that direction with his chin. "You can see for yourself. Mr. Yoon is here."

As he said that, I shifted my gaze towards the direction he was looking. And right there, I spotted a good-looking guy with stunning blond hair coming down the stairs.

Is it even possible for someone to be ridiculously attractive like that?

His perfectly shaped nose looked like it was crafted by a skilled artist, and his soft lips seemed like they were meticulously created by a goddess who dedicated three whole days and nights to making them.

His features were both refined and delicate, and his long, slender neck emitted a pure masculine charm.

He was so beautiful that I couldn't tear my eyes away from him, not even for a second. It felt like time was slowing down whenever he was around.

And then, it happened.

The man, who looked like an angel, approached me and started speaking.

Out of nowhere, a soft and velvety voice echoed in my ears.

"So, my wife is back."

I couldn't resist being completely mesmerized.

Isn't my sister lucky?

She gets to live a life of luxury and has a charming husband with a sweet voice.

Without thinking, I flashed a smile at the man and blurted out, "You're so damn good-looking."

As confusion washed over his face, reality hit me, and I remembered who I was, where I was, and the role I needed to play in that moment.

"What did you just say?" he questioned.

My eyes widened, and I quickly covered my mouth.

Sh*t. I am doomed.

"Did you seriously just call me good-looking?" he questioned.

"I...I..." I stammered, glancing at Wonwoo and silently pleading for his assistance.

Recognizing my distress, Wonwoo stepped forward and declared, "The Madam here has amnesia."

With a gulp, I turned my gaze towards my sister's husband. He squinted at Wonwoo, then shifted his attention back to me.

"Her absence for the past six months was due to her amnesia," Wonwoo added.

I vigorously nodded in agreement, showing my support for his fabricated story.

"Lost memories," the attractive husband repeated. As he locked eyes with me, I felt a shiver run down my spine.

I struggled to catch my breath.

"Let's see," he said, leaning in closer and grabbing my chin to lift my face. "Did you really lose your memories, or were you trying to fool me, Heeyoung?"

I quickly hid my hands in the folds of my skirt, clenching them tightly. Will he catch me? Can he tell that I'm not his real wife?

I desperately racked my brain, trying to think of a way to deceive this man. I opened my lips to speak, but before I could say anything, he forcefully shut them again.

"...!"

Mr. Jeonghan leaned even closer and planted a kiss on my cheek!

At that moment, it felt like a massive wave was crashing down on me. My heart raced as I watched him pull away after the unexpected kiss. With an indifferent expression, he studied my face.

That was my freaking first kiss!

"What the heck are you doing?!" I yelled, clutching my burning cheek. I couldn't even blink, and I blurted out, "Are you out of your mind? Why would you just randomly kiss me like that?!"

I was freaking out so much that I completely forgot what I was supposed to do.

The good-looking husband tilted his head and crossed his arms. "You're blushing," he said calmly.

"Well, duh! Anyone would blush!" I gasped.

"No. Heeyoung, if you were your usual self, you would have slapped me as soon as I got close," he narrowed his eyes and gave me a serious look. "That means you really lost your memories."

Heeyoung would slap him? Does that mean their relationship wasn't good? I glanced at Wonwoo, hoping to find some answers. But before I could even ask him anything, someone grabbed my hand.

I turned to see Mr. Jeonghan.

"You did a great job finding my wife," he said to Wonwoo. "Now, I'll take it from here." And with that, he pulled me away.

"Hey, hold on a sec!" I interrupted him. "Where exactly are you planning to take me?"

He gazed at me intently. "You've been gone for half a year. Obviously, I'm taking you to our room," he replied. Leaning in closer, he whispered, "Somewhere private, where nobody can interrupt us. I miss doing it with you, honey."
