#45 "Toxic Relationship"
There was a huge fire on your neighborhood yesterday. Because the wind was strong, the fire grew bigger and bigger, it damaged a total of four houses including your household. Left with nothing, you and your mom struggled to find a new home since you lost everything in just a night. No friends, no comrade, you are an introvert in the class who don’t know where and who you will ask for help. So your mom decided to go back to her hometown to ask your relatives. Afraid you’ll skip your study, your mom asked a friend to keep you on their house while she is away. You have no choice but to agree to be in someone’s care for maybe one week? One month? Or for longer tome you thought it might be.
“Don’t be shy (y/n),” your mom’s friend welcomed you with big arms. “Feel at home.”
There is nothing wrong with Mrs. Choi: she is kind, thoughtful and she treats you like her own daughter. But the real problem starts with her son, Choi Seungcheol. He was your classmate since kindergarten, and until now you both studying in highschool. He is famous in your class; because he is handsome, outgoing and a football player of your school. Let’s not skip the fact that he is a guy who loves to annoy you since you were kids. Yes. He was and is an annoying childhood enemy.
“Wow! Can’t believe we are going to live under the same roof!” Seungcheol exclaimed while you are taking the path on the way to your new room together (or should we say, he is following you from behind).
You stood straight in front of your room’s door, not saying anything as if there is no one around you.
“That means I can annoy you 24/7. Isn’t that sounds exciting?” he giggled like a little kid.
You put your luggage down after a deep sigh. Calm down (y/n). This is just your first night with him. You can’t back down already.
Seungcheol leaned his hand on the room’s door as he stared at you from a closer view. “We can go to school together. And ride bus together.”
You glared at him. Taken back by your glare, he raised his brows while showing his infamous gum smile. “Right?” he even added.
“Can we act like we didn’t know each other at all?” you said in low tone.
His smile faded away. Seungcheol crossed his arms and leaned his back on that closed door. “That will be hard. I knew you since kindergarten. I’ve been bullying you since then. And I am the only who had the guts to talk to you in school. You have no friends because you never speak except if you are reciting an answer for each lessons. In short, I am the only one who witnessed your different reactions and heard your voice that long. Especially your annoyed reaction when I am near. That means I am an important person in your tiny world.”
If you’ll say you hate him right now, you thought he will feel even more happy. So you just shook your head and opened the door.
“Yah!” he exclaimed when he almost fall down because you suddenly opened the door. Whatever. You went inside and locked the door. “Hey! Let’s see each other tomorrow! Goodnight! Dream of me!”
Tomorrow morning, you woke up really early and ate the bread, you bought in the convenience store last week, before going to school.
No one knows about your situation. Simply because you choose not to let them know. Who cares? You have no friend so there is no need to put a drama.
While you are sitting on your desk, eyes looking outside the window and disregarding the noise around, someone put a box of strawberry milk above your desk. When you noticed it, you looked around to check who gave you that milk. Yet no one is tending on your way. Everyone treats you like an invisible, that’s what you think of. So who is it? Who will show you this kind of gratitude?
And then…
“Hey, why did you go to school that early? Mom went furious. She thought I did something to you last night,” Seungcheol suddenly approached you. He sat above your desk just like what he always do before the class starts.
The moment he approached you, you hear your classmates gossiping about you: “Look, Seungcheol is annoying (y/n) again.” “Poor girl. She is always bowed her head and acts sulky. That’s why she got bullied.” “Why does Seungcheol Oppa always talking to that bum?” “Whatever. I am not interested about her. Tsss.”
You clenched your fists. Attention, eyes around you and gossips: you hate these the most. But because of your childhood enemy, you got labeled as an invisible loser.
“Don’t talk to me,” you answered Seungcheol. “And get your strawberry milk back.”
Seungcheol’s eyes went down on that strawberry milk. “This is not from me. Who gave this to you?” he blinked his eyes.
Really? It was not from him! Then…?
“Hey hey quiet,” you class president said as he went in front of the class to announce something. “We all know that our school festival starts next week.”
“Yahoooooo!” Everyone cheered, including Seungcheol and except you.
“As what we agreed, we are going to make a horror house,” Wonwoo, the class president continued. “But we need to assign at least three ghosts to cosplay. Any volunteer?”
Seungcheol raised his hand. “(Y/n) will volunteer!” You wide eyed him.
“Pfftt! Hahahahaha! It suits her! She’ll scare our customer! Nice one Seungcheol!” All of your classmates agreed.
“Hahah! Right? (y/n)’s role as a ghost is a must!” Seungcheol laughed and even made high five on his friends.
You want to disappear right now. You want to decline. You want him to get lost from your sight. But you can’t. You absolutely cannot do anything but to sit there and drowned in silent.
“Then, I volunteered as a ghost too,” Wonwoo said in serious tone.
Now there is a silence inside the room. Everyone, including you, looked at your class president. Then he met your gaze. ~badump ba dump~ loud beats inside your chest echoed in your ears.
“I will volunteer too,” Seungcheol said looking seriously at your class president.
While the two is staring at each other, no one dared to question why.
“Good morning class!” your English teacher broke the intensity inside. Wonwoo sat on his desk and Seungcheol went on his designated seat too.
The lesson starts, but all you think is the possible reason why did Wonwoo volunteer to act as a ghost? Your eyes couldn’t leave his sight and while you are giving all your attention to him, there is Seungcheol who feels irritated that you finally take an interest to somebody.
First day of school’s festival starts.
On the past week of living together with Seungcheol, you tried your best to avoid him as much as possible: going home late and attending school before he wakes up.
You think everything went smoothly. All you have to do is to wait for your mother’s return, so you won’t have to meet him outside the school.
Your class prepared these costumes for the three of you: Dracula for Seungcheol, one-eye patched pirate for Wonwoo and bloody white lady for you. Wait. The two of them have cool outfits! This is discrimination! Anyway, the festival starts.
You are assigned on the last door on the horror house made by your class. Wonwoo assigned on the very first door while Seungcheol is at the middle.
Two hours passed.
You just stood there and people got scared by you. Maybe your cold presence is enough to push them away.
Another hour passed by.
And now you feel very tired. You asked for a break and sat on the corner. While meditating, a cockroach appeared out of nowhere!
“Ahhh!” you screamed hysterically. Trying to avoid it, you lose your balance, fell down on the ground and sprained your ankle. “Ahhh,” you winced in pain. “That hurts.”
The door suddenly opened, “WHAT HAPPENED?!” When you lifted your head, you saw Seungcheol and Wonwoo standing in front of you. They looked at each other, both are confused by their presence. “Why are you here?” Wonwoo asked. “I’ll ask you the same thing mr.class president. You are assigned at the entrance. How come you ran here as soon as you heard her scream?” Seungcheol responded.
Wonwoo didn’t answer and knelt down. “Are you okay?” He held your ankle.
“Ahhh!” you winced in pain.
Seungcheol eyes widened when he saw you wincing. He got worried that your injury is serious! “W-What happened?!” he exclaimed and held your ankle too. But you yanked his hand away, leaving his speechless.
“Stay here. I’ll bring some ice,” Wonwoo said and you quickly nodded. He stood up and went out.
Now there are only you and Seungcheol inside that dark cold room.
“You yanked my hand away,” Seungcheol muttered. He lifted his head and looked straight in your eyes. “You listened to our class president after you yanked my hand. What? Do you want me to feel that I am the villain here?”
Yes. He is. From the beginning, Seungcheol seemed to be the main villain in your life. You won’t be here acting as a ghost against your will if he didn’t try to mess you up. Everything was his fault! That’s why you hate him so much!
“Get out. I don’t need you,” you answered and avoided his gaze.
Seungcheol chuckled. “Okay okay. I will accept that I am the villain.” He suddenly scrawled closer, locking you between his arms.
“W-What?” you stuttered with wide eyes while staring at his face for only an inch away!
“Wearing this Dracula outfit, makes me wanna do something awful to you,” he whispered, gritting his teeth. He looked at your neck and smirked at you.
“Don’t come clo—“ you are about to protest.
But he already licked your neck with his tongue that made you shiver and freeze. For a moment you forgot how to breathe and how to say the word: ‘Stop.’
After licking your neck, Seungcheol gently bit your skin. “Ahhh!” you winced. He sucked it, leaving a purple mark. “S-Seungcheol,” a small moan came out from your lips.
Then he pulled back. “If you see me as a bad boy, then let it be.”
“Here, I brought an ice and…” Wonwoo halted when he noticed something odd between the two of you. “What happened?”
Breathing heavily, you tilted your reddened face. You are trembling like a mouse caught in a trap. Yet Seungcheol stood up like nothing happened and answered, “My role here ended already. It’s time for your little kind acts mr. President.”
Seungcheol took a step away. But when Wonwoo saw that purple mark on your neck, he dropped the bag of ice and grabbed Seungcheol’s collar. “Hey you!”
The man wearing this Dracula outfit smirked back at him. “Why?” he teased.
“Stop this already. Stop bullying (y/n),” Wonwoo threatened.
Seungcheol leaned closer and whispered these words in Wonwoo’s ear: “Feel irritated? Why? Do you like her?”
Wonwoo chuckled in frustration. He put his lips on Seungcheol’s ear as he whispered back: “Scared. Are you scared that you already have someone to compete with? If you are going to play dirty, then I’ll stop this kind act. Too late to regret, bro.”
