The Call to Action

I have three sisters. No, that is wrong, I had three sisters and a kingdom to run. My worries are many. Looking out at my kingdom and to the horizon from the Castle's East Tower window at the sunset - I ponder history and how it affects us...

Long ago a war erupted; Between the factions of the fey and the humans. It was a long series of battles. Eventually, other clans, bloodthirsty clans, joined in the bloodshed of the war. The Demonic tribes did not choose a side. Instead, they created their own. In light of this, it turned into a two-front war — humans against the Fey and the Demonic clans.

At the time, the reasons for the Blood War are unclear, but now Three Thousand years later, I began to wonder if they were controlled by an outside force. The Magi clans had this capability then, they are surely are still capable of it now. They were Neutral in the Blood War. They did not give aid, they did not shelter the refugees, and the Magi are not friendly to outsiders. They barricaded themselves in with the use of magic and did not leave their walls for centuries. The immortals sided with the humans after two decades of war against the Demons; they were called the angels of the Lord. Humans gave them a misnomer; they're simply Immortals with too much time on their hands. The Fey and Human's population dwindled from millions to single-digit thousands.

Eventually, the demons were sealed away in their dimension by the immortals. The rest of the clans waved their white flags as the population dwindled further; the lands soaked in the blood of the Ancients, the rivers ran red, and the sky was crimson with the ash of the dead.

There were too many to bury; it was safer to burn the dead as diseases were beginning to run rampant. The diseased were killed as the black death created a new kind of monster, a flesh-eating type of creature, killed twice and burned twice as many, the ancient people of Brittania did not wish to become extinct, from these walkers. The walkers took many a year to eradicate completely. The horror of fighting your friends, brothers, sisters, mothers, sons, and daughters must have been tremendous; I do not wish for this to repeat.
This horror brought the clans together, the ones remaining that is.

All sides signed the treatise of peace but the clan of the Demonic. As the years went by, civilizations rose and fell. The culture changed and new places discovered.

Many forgot the tale of Ancient times but not I, as I found out that knights had started the Blood Wars; Big and Small. My kingdom has stood for the last thousand years due to vigilance, and I am its regent Queen, Elizabeth Liones the Third, I have no right as the Queen because I am not blood bound,  but I serve Liones, as her faithful Queen.

After the Blood War, the clans retreated into their promised lands and ever since the lines forever drawn. The Fey now live in their Eternal Forest. The Magi live in the mountains due east, two weeks ride for messengers to reach, and four to return. The Demonic clans are sealed away, as far as we know. The immortals died out in the Blood War. Just because the Immortals were long-lived does not mean they could not be killed, in war or otherwise.

My musing was interrupted by a page bursting into the Eastern Tower room that I'm occupying, urgently announcing, " My lady! My Lady!! THE KING COLLAPSED!"

My worries proved true, but I replied, " Call the Healers now and take me to his chambers!" I ordered sternly.

My father has fallen ill. The healers say, "that M'Lord Father, The King of Liones will not recover". They whisper of poison. I know not, if this is true.

I am Liones' third Princess, the third sister. The eldest, my sister Margaret, has abdicated the throne for a commoner who is Holy Knight and has fled the kingdom. I do not trust the Holy knights as they are a privateer organization. They have subtly taken over the kingdom in these past few months, and I am as chained to them as are my people. Their founding tenants were honorable, "Do no harm but in defense of the people," but now Hendrickson has risen to power, and I know not how this happened to occur.

He is despicable; he rapes, pillages and murders at a whim. He leads them, the Holy Knights, to follow in his footsteps. I have an invader army employed by the people who do not listen to the warnings my father gave. I am forced to consider using the death of the Crown Princess as a political move if I have to. I sincerely do not wish to do so but how else am I to gain traction against those who are planning on a coup d'etat. My sister Victoria assassinated in March; Her husband died a week later from an apparent suicide, but the rope markings are all wrong.

The Crown Prince and Princess murdered. Two Kingdoms are now without a blood heir. Someone wishes to remove the Royal Family from the Big picture or start a war that shall decimate Liones and bring my fiance's armies to our shores. My love and now Prince of Liones' people is Captain of a special forces team.

He doesn't know what is happening in this kingdom, and I cannot tell him as I am watched at all times.

" I saw it!" A man declared as he burst into the Pig's Hat Tavern.

"I saw it. I saw it with my own two eyes! I swear it by all that is holy, the knights have taken the queen captive!" The man further declared, " King Batra is dead!"

The Tavern erupted into shouts of displeasure and disbelief.

One of the patrons said, " C'mon! They're made up stories to scare people into line."

A different patron drunkenly stated, "One of the seven deadly sins would've helped if that was true." Others were mocking the man who announced this shocking revelation. " Oo. Ah." Laughter follows, " The holy Knights killed the king. Yeah, right!" The man who was now clear from the castle mocked, "The seven deadly sins couldn't help Veronica, nor The King, what is to say they'd help Liones' Queen?"

The Pig's Hat tavern barman asked, " Who are The Seven Deadly Sins?"

A patron at the Bar seats asked, "Oh, you've never heard of them, young tavern owner? They were the strongest knights in the kingdom, seven in fact, that kept Holy knights and other threats to the realm in line." The patron took another sip of his ale and continued," Until one day they disappeared; there was a massacre in the town square on the same day as the vanishing. Many claimed they, The Seven Deadly Sins, killed them. Others claim differently. "

" Thousands of Holy Knights were killed so fast that they didn't even have time to draw a weapon," another patron told the young tavern owner. The tavern owner asked, "When was this?" The replies were varied from ten years ago to five to yesterday — the drunkards' perception of time skewed by the ale they consumed. Regardless, Missing posters were on the wall for those seven knights and wanted posters for the assassins of Royalty.

"The leader of the Seven Deadly Sins is the strongest of a lot of those who vanished; Meliodas was his name." The patrons continued to discuss their theories about how they vanished but thought that the new Holy knights would protect them.

The young page, the man who delivered the shocking revelation, knew differently. The Queen was wise and thoughtful. She gave the page's a missive to open in the event that she was taken, hostage. It said to, " Find The Seven Deadly Sins, tell them the war has started once more and to beware -" The young page knew not what the rest of the missive said as the was blood covering the rest and the ink had smudged to unrecognizable words.

Before he left he announced, " The queen is dying, and The Holy Knights will not protect you, the Seven might. I have a blood-stained missive for them. Tell all who will listen the Seven are needed." The young page walked out the door. None saw the young bartenders face as he turned to grab a new bottle from behind the bar, darkened with rage. The expression was just as fast gone as he moved to pour another drink to a paying patron. The young tavern owner quickly called last round and subtly demanded them to leave. Many of the patrons groaned, good-naturedly but the lot of them did as told and left the tavern.

The young tavern owner was quick to finish cleaning up the apparent mess when he heard a disturbance at his door. A nasally voice demanded, "Hey! Come out here!"

"You bellowed?" The tavern owner calmly queered.

One of the other knights at his door asked, "Who are you, you little kid?!", remarking at his short stature.

The young tavern owner showed none of his irritation, "I'm the owner of this place."

"The page with that missive, where is he??" The second Holy Knight, rudely, demanded. "Send him out if you have him."

The young tavern owner turned and called inside over his shoulder, "Send him out."

The knight who'd demanded to see the page was surprised that he was right gasped.

"Who is calling for me? The great Sir Hawk, the Page of extraordinary talent!" The waist-high pig proclaimed. "So this pig is the one we're after?" The nasally-voice Holy Knight questioned the group of Knights with him.

"Well, of course, it's not!" The second holy knight to speak, said indignantly, "How dare you."

"How about a little bit more respect, I am the Captain of the Order of Scraps Disposal!" Sir Hawk stated. The uptight Second holy Knight claimed, "There is no such order!"

The young tavern owner queried, from his nonchalant pose against the door jam, "If this pig is what you're after, I know a great recipe for Grilled Ham or Stew."

Sir Hawk exclaimed, "Will you give it a rest,  wount'cha?"

The second Holy knight, the tallest of the group that was talking was tired of being mocked, "You little punk..." he said as he lifted the young tavern owner by his shirt collar. "You've got some nerve to make fun of holy knights like this!"

What no one saw but the almost ornamental Knight who has said nothing so far spotted movement out of the corner of his eye. He turned to get a better look right as someone ran out the back of the tavern.

"Allioni, a person ran out the back!" The ornamental Knight so far exclaimed.

The now named Knight holding the young tavern owner by the shirt, Allioni, dropped him and ordered for them to follow after the running figure, and to inform Sir Tiwgo.

The nasal knight ordered the running person to, "Hold It Right There!".

Meanwhile, the young tavern owner and Sir Hawk are left staring after them from the doorway of the tavern, The Pig's Hat.

"Oh, no." Sir Hawk whispered.
