SDS3 27: STUCK IN THE PAST
"SERIOUSLY WOOHYUN, WHY DID you have to be so stupid?!" Sunggyu shouted at the man who was sitting beside him.
"Well, how was I suppose to know the guy had a major superiority complex?" Woohyun defended, only making Sunggyu even more furious.
"I'll fucking kill you!" Sunggyu shouted again. He was about to strangle the angel, but the chains on his wrist made it impossible for him to do so.
"When we get out of here Nam Woohyun. I will seriously make sure you won't see daylight again!"
A FEW HOURS AGO
"You heard your mother. Now bring us to them." Woohyun stated as he looked at the ghouls who just got back from consciousness.
The ghoul who Woohyun used was panting heavily. He looked at the angel and demon before looking back at the rest of the ghouls in the room. He nodded his head, signaling them to follow orders. Without saying a word, the ghouls escorted the two outside. They didn't want to escort traitors, but they didn't want to disobey their mother either. And the fact that Sunggyu isn't just some traitor but a prince with a high rank makes it even more difficult for them.
"Well, looks like this will be easier than what we thought." Woohyun commented as they followed the ghouls to the parking lot at the back of the club.
"Let's not put our guards down. If these assholes do anything funny, you have to draw out your weapon as fast as you can." Sunggyu instructed in a low voice so the others wouldn't be able to hear it.
Woohyun didn't say anything back but nodded his head as an answer instead. When they arrived in front of a black car, the ghouls moved aside as one of them opened the back door of the car for them.
"Don't even try to do anything funny ghouls. Because I can easily remove that stupid head from your stupid and weak body." Sunggyu warned, surprising the ghouls.
The ghouls didn't say anything and moved even farther away from the prince. Sunggyu smiled in satisfaction and got inside the car; Woohyun following behind him. The ghoul, who was technically their spokesperson, got inside the car right after, serving as their driver. Then the rest of the ghouls followed in a different car.
The drive was silent. There was no need to chit-chat. They were only there to get one thing, and the was Woo Jiho's heart. Talking to others won't be necessary.
Woohyun was looking out of the car's window, keeping his guards up like what Sunggyu told him to do. Sunggyu on the other hand was meditating. He had his eyes closed, and he was taking long and heavy breaths. His hands were even turning yellow-orange like fire would burst out of them if anyone dared to disturb his temporary peace.
Sunggyu was in fact getting ready to face the mother of ghouls. He didn't think that a big fight would happen, but it's best to be prepared. He remembered what these ghouls are capable of. Not as individuals, but as a large number of groups. He remembered the time they were attacked back at the university where Jiho died, then he remembered the time they had a battle at hell where his dear brother Jiyong died. Every death, ghouls were included in the picture. And the anger Sunggyu feels towards them couldn't be contained.
"I will a-always...l-love you...m-my br-bothers." Sunggyu suddenly remembered. These were the words that Kwon Jiyong uttered just moments before he died. His chest started aching by just thinking about it.
"Sunggyu." Woohyun called out, grabbing Sunggyu's arm.
Sunggyu's eyes shot open, surprising Woohyun because it was actually bloody red. Sunggyu almost attacked Woohyun with his hands that were inches away from producing fire, but when Sunggyu got a clear view of who it actually was, he stopped and calmed down, his eyes returning back to normal.
"You okay?" Woohyun asked with pure concern.
Sunggyu took a deep breath and nodded his head before pushing Woohyun's hand away from him.
"I was just...meditating," Sunggyu answered him, but Woohyun obviously knew it wasn't just meditating. And the ghoul driving knew that the prince wasn't meditating either. He saw the power and the aura that Sunggyu produced when he opened his eyes. The ghoul couldn't help but gulp in fear. This was truly a prince, and he's aware of the anger that the prince has for the ghouls. If a war would be brought upon them, the last thing you'd want to be is a ghoul in the presence of the Prince of Wrath.
"Well, we're here." Woohyun told the Demon's leader.
Sunggyu looked around and realized that they were actually now parked in front of a warehouse. There were dozens on men guarding the warehouse, but with just one look, Sunggyu immediately knew that these weren't men at all.
"Let's go then," Sunggyu stated, heading out of the car without waiting for anyone.
Woohyun took a deep breath and followed. Waiting outside the warehouse was not Ruby Chen but actually her husband Mr. Chen Kun. He was smiling from ear to ear as he watched the angel and demon approach him.
"Your visit was too sudden that we weren't able to properly welcome such honorable guests. Please accept my sincere apology." Mr. Chen suddenly stated with a low bow.
Woohyun and Sunggyu looked at each other in confusion. They didn't really expect such...treatment.
"Let's cut to the chase Mr. drug lord. Where's Iblis?" Sunggyu asked, surprising the ghouls who were listening at the side.
"So direct." Mr. Chen simply answered, taking a step closer to where they were standing.
"You're facing him right now." Mr. Chen added, now standing just a few inches away from Sunggyu.
"I don't think you're the mother type sweetheart," Sunggyu answered with a smirk.
Mr. Chen was about to grab hold of Sunggyu's cheeks but Woohyun immediately pushed the man away from the demon's leader and told him, "We know Iblis split his soul into two bodies, and we also know that the one who has the most control is Ruby. She has a dominant soul. You're just the scraps of the soul that isn't useful, but necessary." Woohyun stated, suddenly making Mr. Chen's smile disappear.
The sudden shift of expression surprised Woohyun. Sunggyu nudged Woohyun away in anger.
"Shut the fuck up." He angrily whispered to him.
Mr. Chen wasn't saying anything anymore. His eyes were glued on Sunggyu and Woohyun, but the ghouls started to slowly approach them like they were being given a silent command. Sunggyu didn't hesitate and immediately transformed into his demon form, making most of the ghouls stop. But Mr. Chen didn't look threatened at all.
"One more step from your ghouls and you and the rest of them will not see daylight again," Sunggyu warned, his saw-like weapon now in his hand.
Woohyun's silver ring glowed and a sword appeared as well. He turned around and pressed his back on Sunggyu in case someone decided to attack from behind.
"I won't do that if I were you." Mr. Chen calmly stated as he looked at Sunggyu.
Sunggyu looked straight at Mr. Chen with his eyes piercing red. But he almost looked away when Mr. Chen's eyes turned yellow. He didn't expect that kind of color to appear.
"Mother will not like what you're doing my prince." Mr. Chen continued.
"Well, we're not liking where this is going either!" Woohyun answered back.
"Who the fuck do you think started it you fucking idiot?!" Sunggyu angrily shouted, causing Woohyun to flinch.
"We welcome you to our territory with respect and you barge in here looking for Iblis like she's some kind of low ranked Demon. We will not tolerate such attitudes, even from a prince." Mr. Chen stated.
"Tell your ghouls to stand their guards down. Then we will give you the respect that you want." Sunggyu bargained, but Mr. Chen wasn't here to negotiate.
"Harm one of Iblis's children and you will say goodbye to the heart that you traveled so far for." Mr. Chen revealed, surprising not only Sunggyu but Woohyun as well.
Looks like Iblis already figured it out. But that's a good thing because now they're sure that the heart actually is with her.
Sunggyu took a deep breath and summoned his weapon back. Seconds later, he transformed back into his human state, making Woohyun follow in defeat.
"Good, you can listen. Now children, lock them up like what mother instructed." Mr. Chen revealed, surprising the two. But they didn't really have much of a choice so they let the ghouls cuff them up.
"You will regret this Iblis." Sunggyu declared as Mr. Chen was walking away. He smirks and looks over his shoulder to look back at Sunggyu, and then he answered him, "Oh we definitely will. But there's nothing wrong to have a little fun while the regret hasn't arrived yet." Then he playfully waves at them and leaves.
"No wonder he's a demon." Woohyun managed to comment, only making Sunggyu even more furious.
"Shut up already before I fucking grab and burn your fucking tongue!" Sunggyu angrily shouted, making Woohyun and the rest of the ghouls holding on to him flinch from fear.
PRESENT TIME
"Well look at the bright side. At least now we know the heart is really with Ruby. All we have to do now is to kindly ask her to give it to us so we could go on our merry way." Woohyun optimistically stated.
Sunggyu was too mentally tired to even go against it, so he didn't even try to comment on Woohyun's stupid idea.
"If that heart isn't important, I would have easily wiped out their entire clan without your help," Sunggyu told him instead. Woohyun didn't react since he knew that it was possible.
"So what are we going to do now? Just wait here?" Woohyun asked back.
Sunggyu sighed and looked up at the ceiling.
"Taeil's 'No Plan' plan is working wonders," Sunggyu stated, sounding like he would give up any second. But Woohyun knew Sunggyu wasn't the type to do so. The situation was just too crucial to do anything rash. Any wrong move, Iblis could destroy the heart, and Jiyong would never be resurrected.
"Anyways. Whether I said something to that Chen guy or not, we would still be locked up here. Apparently he was instructed by Ruby, which means they already planned to lock us up before we even arrived in this place." Woohyun stated, not because he was trying to save himself from actually getting killed by Sunggyu after this, but because he wanted to remind Sunggyu that they were tricked.
"Of course I knew that. I'm not stupid." Sunggyu simply answered, unconsciously making Woohyun sigh in relief.
"But Iblis wouldn't want us to stay here too long. That I'm sure of." Sunggyu assured the angel.
"And why are you so confident about that?" Woohyun asked, and Sunggyu was once again tempted to strangle the man sitting beside him.
"Weren't you paying any attention at all since we've gotten here? The ghoul told us earlier that the closer we are to Iblis, the closer the King of Hell would be able to find her." Sunggyu told Woohyun.
"Then is that the reason why they're not allowing us to see her?" Woohyun asked, and Sunggyu nodded his head to confirm it.
Sunggyu sighed and closed his eyes again. Whatever Iblis had in store for them, Sunggyu would be ready for it. But Woohyun on the other hand wasn't going to just sit around and meditate. He had to think of something. They can't just wait for their doom like this.
Woohyun was thinking so hard the veins on his neck would pop out any second. But when all his thinking juice was already used, Woohyun finally had a brilliant idea.
"Why didn't I think about it before?" Woohyun asked to himself, making Sunggyu open his eyes back to look at him.
"What are you talking about?" He asked him.
Woohyun excitedly looked at his partner and told him the idea, "You're connected to the King, and the King is somehow connected to Iblis. If I could just find the proper tune, I might be able to find Iblis's exact location through you."
Sunggyu found the idea useful, but there was a problem, "What's the use? We can't do anything. Iblis wouldn't want to see me. She's too afraid the King would find the connection and locate her. If we do anything that would harm her, she might destroy the heart." Sunggyu told him, but Woohyun quickly shook his head and said back, "Sunggyu, have you forgotten? I'm an angel. The King won't be able to use me to relocate Iblis."
Sunggyu was finally convinced with Woohyun's plan. He was surprised he could even think of one.
"You're actually right. That's surprising." Sunggyu stated, but instead of feeling offended, Woohyun tried to move close to where Sunggyu was so he could hold him.
"Give me your hand so I could hold you." Woohyun commanded.
The statement sounded strange for the Demon's leader, but he nodded his head and reached out to give his hand to the angel. Woohyun stretched his arms farther until he was able to touch the demon.
"Here goes nothing." Woohyun stated, grabbing hold of Sunggyu's hand as tightly as he could and closing his eyes so he could find a connection to Iblis's present.
Like earlier, Woohyun's hand started glowing. It meant that he was now looking through Sunggyu.
Woohyun saw different parts of the demon's life, but mostly it was Sunggyu's past. Sunggyu was too stuck and affected by his past that Woohyun was having a hard time locating his present. It took at least five more minutes for Woohyun to finally let go of Sunggyu's hand.
Woohyun was panting heavily. Sunggyu was supposed to ask if Woohyun found Iblis, but his eyes widened instead when he saw blood coming out from Woohyun's nose.
"You're bleeding!" Sunggyu shouted while pointing at Woohyun's nose.
Woohyun immediately wiped the blood away with the back of his hand. He felt dizzy. Sunggyu was filled with pain that the pain was transmitted to him.
"Woohyun, are you okay?" Sunggyu asked with full concern.
Woohyun took a couple of deep breaths before looking back at the demon, "Y-You...you haven't let it go yet..." He told him, confusing Sunggyu.
Sunggyu looked at Woohyun for a second, then his eyes widened from shock when he realized what he was talking about, "What the hell did you see?" He asked Woohyun, his anger slowly showing. But Sunggyu wasn't really angry at Woohyun. Instead, he was angry at himself for being too careless. He forgot that Woohyun doesn't just see the present, but the past too. And Sunggyu knew that his past wasn't all sunshine and rainbows.
"You're..." Woohyun started. He was still too dizzy and weak to say anything further. The memory that he saw from Sunggyu flashed in front of him again.
He saw the struggle that Sunggyu went through when his brother died. He saw the thousands of blood tears that Sunggyu had shed. He saw the times Sunggyu attempted to kill himself. He saw everything. Woohyun felt everything that he couldn't help but shed tears himself.
Sunggyu was surprised to see that Woohyun was actually crying in front of him. He wasn't exactly the type of guy who's good at comforting others so he didn't know what to do.
"You're..." Woohyun started again. He didn't mind the tears as he reached out to hold Sunggyu's hand again, "You're still...you're still in pain?" Woohyun asked, and the question surprised Sunggyu more than anything that he had heard today.
"It's been so long Kim Sunggyu." Woohyun stated, and Sunggyu immediately pulled his hand away from the angel before looking away from him.
"You're a fool to think moving on is as fast as the dead bodies rotting," Sunggyu stated without looking at Woohyun anymore.
"But Jiyong isn't dead just yet. We still have hope. Why are you still too afraid to accept the fact that what happened in the past already happened? Why do you keep blaming yourself even until now?" Woohyun continued to ask, and finally, Sunggyu turned back to look at him.
"Jiyong isn't alive either! I know that I should move on. I know that I'm hurting my brothers by blaming myself for what happened. But I was their leader. I was supposed to protect them. This is the reason why this mission means so much to me. If this fails...it only goes to show that I have failed my brothers all over again." Sunggyu revealed.
Woohyun looked at Sunggyu seriously, waiting for the demon to calm down. When he did, Woohyun took a deep breath, leaned on the wall, and looked at the ceiling.
"When you took Mark away from us, our leader blamed himself to the point where our Father's took his angelic powers away. He wasn't able to do anything, but nevertheless Mark was saved. Not because of him, but because of Jackson. He was glad of course, but he felt so terrible about it. He felt useless. Like you, he was a leader who wanted to protect everyone. But that kind of attitude made him unable to protect himself." Woohyun explained before looking back at Sunggyu.
"He thought he failed us, but now he knows better. Which is why he's not trying to prove himself to us anymore. Instead, he's making sure to protect us better than before. You didn't fail your brothers either, but now...you can bring one of them back. If you keep on locking yourself up, your present self will never be free. Even if we resurrect Jiyong, you will still blame yourself over it." Woohyun told him.
Sunggyu was about to protest, but Woohyun didn't allow him to as he continued, "You've been alone with your pain for too long Kim Sunggyu. Let go of your past. Concentrate on your present. And I promise you...I will make you clearly see your future."
