SDS3 26: CONNECTIONS
SUNGGYU AND WOOHYUN WERE seated at the back seat of a car. The scammer wouldn't shut up about how fun it is in Beijing during the night, so Sunggyu and Woohyun were both inches away from exploding because of how sick they are from hearing him talk nonstop.
Woohyun glanced at Sunggyu, but Sunggyu was looking out the window in silence. It was obvious that he was already mad because of the scammer's noisiness since his ears were already red because of anger. Woohyun was irritated himself and he didn't even understand a single word the man was saying. Just imagine what Sunggyu is going through.
"Shut up already!" Sunggyu finally shouted in Korean.
Woohyun was surprised, but the driver finally shuts his mouth like how Sunggyu wanted even though he didn't understand what he just said.
The car ride became awkward because of the sudden silence, so Woohyun sighed and looked out the window to try and occupy his mind with whatever. But as he was doing so, he couldn't help but glance back at the Demon's leader.
Just the sight of him would make a baby cry. Sunggyu was a scary fella, even before he became a full-fledged demon. But with everything that happened to him and the rest of his brothers, Sunggyu has been emitting a different type of aura, especially after Jiyong's death. It was the type of aura that would give everyone the idea that he was ready to kill anyone who would stand in his way.
"Stop staring at me or I'll poke your eyes out." Sunggyu suddenly threatened without even looking back at Woohyun.
Woohyun flinched and immediately looked away, "Sorry," he told him, "I just thought you looked very different from the last time that I saw you."
"The last time you saw me was yesterday," Sunggyu answered with a confused tone.
Woohyun finally looked back at the Demon's leader and explained, "I mean...I didn't want to address this randomly but ever since Jiyong died, you've been-"
"Sadder?" Sunggyu guessed, but Woohyun shook his head and told him, "No...empty."
Sunggyu finally looked at Woohyun dead in the eye. Woohyun flinched again. The look on Sunggyu's face made him look away in fear.
"I didn't mean to make it sound bad," Woohyun defended.
Sunggyu sighed and looked out of the window again, "Don't worry, I get what you're saying. And I guess you're right. When shit went down on us, and when we were separated for months, I just literally drifted away. Maybe I was just tired of everything."
Woohyun was surprised at Sunggyu's sudden honesty. This was a rare moment for him so he wanted to continue the conversation.
"Did you really blame us for his death?" Woohyun asked, not even concerned if the question was too sensitive or not.
Sunggyu and Woohyun weren't looking at each other, but thanks to the city lights, both of them could see their reflection in the car window's mirror.
Sunggyu looked directly at Woohyun and answered him, "I did...for a time...but I realized I just didn't know who to blame, and the most obvious one to blame was you guys. But you specifically did try to warn me about it, and I know you got in trouble because of it too."
Woohyun chuckled, remembering that time as well, "You already thanked me for that though."
"But I wouldn't mind saying it a couple more times. Because after all that, it seemed to me like you were the only one who genuinely cared." Sunggyu revealed, surprising Woohyun. Woohyun was about to say something, but the car came into a sudden halt, and the driver looked at the two and said, "We're here gentlemen."
Sunggyu didn't even wait when he headed out of the car. Woohyun following right after him.
When the scammer said 'we're here'. Sunggyu and Woohyun didn't expect to see a cheap-looking club that had thugs waiting outside. The smell of the sewer and trash mixed with cigarette smoke flooded their nose. It wasn't a pleasant place to be in.
"You want to get high, then this is the best place. No fancy club can top this." The scammer stated, and Sunggyu looked at him angrily and grabbed him by the collar, "Did you bring us here so we could get murdered inside or what?"
The scammer looked at Sunggyu with terror, he tried to push him away but the demon wasn't budging, "N-no...I'm serious. This is the real Beijing. If you want the best, you need to go to w-what's...real."
"Sunggyu, the man has a point. Let him go." Woohyun dared to say, and Sunggyu surprisingly lets go of him without putting up a fight.
"The outside is dirty, but the inside is filled with diamonds. Believe me." The scammer immediately defended.
Sunggyu finally trusted him and shoved him a couple of bucks so the scammer could finally leave.
"That will stop you from trying to even scam us, right?" Sunggyu asked.
The scammer checked the amount and grinned, "Enjoy the night." Then he went back to his car and drove off without any complaint.
Woohyun stood beside Sunggyu and the two looked at the establishment that didn't even have a name. People were looking at them, it was obvious they didn't belong. They looked too pretty to be hanging around in this type of place.
"A few of these guys are ghouls," Sunggyu whispered to Woohyun.
Woohyun looked around the area. The thugs smoking outside were already looking at them, and Woohyun was sure it wasn't because they looked pretty.
"Looks like we're in the right place." Woohyun whispered back.
Sunggyu nodded his head and the two walked towards the establishment. They were close to the door, but a big man covered in tattoos suddenly blocked their way and said, "I.D."
"Fuck." Woohyun cursed under his breath, but Sunggyu on the other hand looked like he had it all covered.
"We're here to see Mr. Chen," Sunggyu stated even though he wasn't sure that the man would even know a Mr. Chen.
"He's not here." The tattooed man surprisingly answered.
Great. It looks like they really were in the right place.
"Look, big guy. This will only end in two ways. You let us in, or I beat the crap out of you and we'll both go in ourselves." Sunggyu bravely threatened, angering the man in front of them. Woohyun obviously didn't know what they were talking about, but then Sunggyu pushed Woohyun away just seconds before the big man threw a punch.
"W-What the-" Woohyun said in a state of confusion.
Sunggyu dodged the punch and threw one back, right on the man's jaw. Everyone around them started to get involved, so even though Woohyun was in a state of confusion, he backed Sunggyu up and punched the rest of the guys who were approaching them, the bystanders moving away so they wouldn't get caught up by the ruckus.
Sunggyu and Woohyun didn't try to bring out their powers, even though it would greatly help them in this situation. They both knew it would be risky to do that with humans around. And they knew the ghouls know what they are, but they might not know WHO they exactly are yet, and showing their capability would only make them realize it.
"What the hell did you tell him!?" Woohyun shouted as he tried to dodge the punches that were coming at him.
Sunggyu threw a strong punch on the man's stomach, causing him to fall on his knees before Sunggyu could use his knees to knock him out. Afterward, he looked back at Woohyun and answered him, "Just giving him an option."
Woohyun laughed, then his eyes widened as he saw a man with a bat approaching Sunggyu from behind. Woohyun pushed Sunggyu away like what Sunggyu did to him earlier and kicked the man's hand effortlessly, causing him to let go of the bat.
"I'll take that." Woohyun stated, grabbing the bat and hitting him and the rest of the thugs. After a few more punching and dodging, the six men were down. Sunggyu and Woohyun were panting heavily. The two looked at each other and laughed.
"That was fucking random." Woohyun stated, throwing the blood-covered bat away.
"We actually make a pretty good team. We didn't even get a single scratch." Sunggyu said back, which was kinda unfair to the ghouls since those two are a pair of very powerful angel and demon. The ghoul didn't really stand a chance.
The people around the club looked at the two with fear and confusion. The attention wasn't good for them so Sunggyu immediately grabbed Woohyun's wrist and said, "Time to go." Then the two went inside the club without anyone stopping them anymore.
The club was very different from the outside, just like what the scammer said. The place was dark. The only thing that illuminated it was red lights. There was sexy music playing in the background as well. There were sofas with men drinking and playing cards while girls sat on their laps. Then smoke from who knows what covered the place.
"This place is hot." Woohyun commented in a literal sense, "And I think just simply inhaling would make me high with all the people using drugs here."
"That doesn't matter. We have to find Mr. Chen. It looks like the people outside knew him. He said Mr. Chen wasn't here, but I highly doubt it." Sunggyu explained, letting go of Woohyun's wrist.
"Well if Mr. Chen is one of the greatest drug dealers in the continent, wouldn't he be at a more private area?" Woohyun suggested, and Sunggyu nodded his head in agreement.
As the two were trying to find their way inside the club, two girls suddenly approached Sunggyu and immediately started to caress him.
"What's a handsome looking man like you doing here?" The woman asked seductively, but Sunggyu wasn't even fazed. He wanted to immediately push the girls away, but he suddenly had an idea, "Do you lovely girls know where Mr. Chen is usually staying?" Sunggyu asked with a suave charming voice that would make any girl go down on their knees.
The two girls looked at each other, then they grinned and grabbed both of Sunggyu's hands, "Follow us," They both said in unison.
Sunggyu turned his head and looked at Woohyun who had an impressed looked. Sunggyu shrugged his shoulders, and Woohyun just chuckled and followed behind them.
The two girls brought Sunggyu to the second floor. The smell of sweat and drugs finally gone from their noses.
"This is Mr. Chen's usual room." The two girls stated before letting go of Sunggyu's hands.
Sunggyu smirked and thanked the two. But before leaving, one of the girls grabbed Sunggyu's hand again and slid it inside her shirt, letting Sunggyu grope her breast, "Here's a small taste so you'd remember who to look for afterward." The girl seductively stated.
Sunggyu didn't react much, but Woohyun was just standing behind them, trying not to laugh.
"This only made me want to forget you immediately," Sunggyu said in Korean.
The girl finally lets go of Sunggyu's hand, and both of them left Woohyun and Sunggyu in front of the private room where Mr. Chen was supposed to be in.
"Well wasn't that delightful." Woohyun joked as Sunggyu wiped his hand on his shirt.
"Oh come on, you don't have to be so disgusted about it. When will you ever hold a woman's breast like that again? And with consent?!" Woohyun teased, and Sunggyu looked at him angrily and said, "Okay, first of all, I don't go around groping women's breast, that's disgusting. And second of all, that wasn't a fucking woman."
"What do you mean?" Woohyun asked with a confused expression, but after a few seconds, he finally realized it, and Woohyun burst out in laugher.
"Oh my fucking hell. You just groped a ghoul's breast!" Woohyun shouted with a loud laugh.
Sunggyu continued to look at Woohyun angrily as he smacked Woohyun' s head to make him stop.
"Alright, are you done now?" Sunggyu asked.
Woohyun massaged the back of his head and brought out a few more laughs before finally calming himself down.
"Sorry. Okay, I'm ready." Woohyun stated, now with a serious expression.
Sunggyu exhaled heavily and finally grabbed the doorknob before opening the door. The moment he opened the door, the two were welcomed with five men in suits. But there was no Mr. Chen.
"Looks like the man outside wasn't lying. Mr. Chen isn't here." Sunggyu stated.
The five men were about to grab their guns, but Sunggyu closed the door behind them and changed the color of his eyes into red, automatically making everyone stop.
"You know who I am don't you?" Sunggyu asked them. He didn't even have to speak in Chinese. Ghouls knew how to adapt to language anyways.
"You're not welcomed here, traitor." The man in the middle spoke before standing up from his seat. "Especially that angel," he added.
"Being unwelcome is something I have already gotten used to. I guess it's a perk for being a demon in general. I suppose you guys will never know since you're ghouls. And no one really finds ghouls as a threat." Sunggyu answered, walking towards the ghouls, making them flinch.
Good. At least they know he's powerful.
"You're not going to summon your mother aren't you?" Sunggyu asked, and the five looked at each other without saying a word.
"Did you know that we were in Beijing?" Woohyun asked, now joining in on the conversation.
"No." The other ghoul answered.
"So no one has signaled Iblis yet. That's surprising." Woohyun whispered to himself. Confused since he thought that the ghouls would have at least been getting ready to attack and capture them by now.
"Our mother does not want to participate in anything regarding the King. The closer she is to you, the closer the King will be able to reach her." The ghoul explained, which actually made sense to Woohyun and Sunggyu since Iblis was practically trying to hide from the King.
"But that doesn't matter, the King already knows where he is right?" Sunggyu asked, and this time, the ghouls smirked at the demon.
"Our mother might not have a choice in following the King's orders, but the King does not know where she exactly is." The ghoul answered.
"She is there, then he is there. There is no permanent spot. No permanent shell." Another ghoul explained, and the two didn't quite understand why they were suddenly explaining these things to them. The ghouls might have thought they would never figure it out. But that was when they were wrong.
The two looked at each other in confusion. They didn't know what the ghouls were talking about, but then Sunggyu's eyes widened from realization. He remembered Wonho and Hyungwon. The two carried Jiyong's soul separately. Could it be that...
"Iblis isn't just Ruby Chen!" Woohyun shouted, just right at the moment where Sunggyu got it too.
The ghouls were surprised. They weren't expecting the two to find it out so quickly.
"Iblis...the reason why he has been able to preserve Ruby Chen and Mr. Chen Kun's body is because...he's both. He split his spirit into two." Sunggyu explained further. He finally understood the reason why those two emotions made them play so many games.
The ghouls finally looked worried. They made a mistake. They spoke too much. But before they could even do anything, Sunggyu transformed into his demon form and raised his hand, immediately causing all the ghouls to freeze. Their eyes looked like they were burning. It took Woohyun a few seconds to realize Sunggyu was actually using his Memory Manipulation.
"Woohyun, you have at least ten minutes to do this before they get back their consciousness. They won't remember anything, but we have to leave by then." Sunggyu said, and he didn't even have to explain further for Woohyun to understand what he was supposed to do.
"Alright, I'll use the one in the middle." Woohyun stated, walking towards the ghoul that was already standing up.
He took a deep breath and touched the ghoul's forehead.
He closed his eyes, trying to get inside the ghoul's mind. He took another deep breath, and then his hand eventually started glowing.
Woohyun was looking at the ghoul's present. It actually gave him the image of what the ghoul was currently looking at, which was them. Woohyun dug deeper, trying to find the other connection. The connection that Iblis was using on all of the ghouls.
The clock was ticking, and Woohyun's head was starting to ache. Since Iblis was connected to all the ghouls, Woohyun ended up looking through all the ghoul's eyes as well. He would see someone eating a human, then next he'd see someone just standing on the side.
Images of each ghoul's perspective started to flash right in front of him. Woohyun was inches away from letting go, he couldn't handle the insane amount of connections. But then the image stopped at an empty office. Woohyun felt his sweat drip from his forehead as he watched the room in silence. Seconds later, the door to the office opened, and the 'person' that he was looking for finally appeared.
First, it was Ruby, but then Mr. Chen followed. The two ignored the ghoul that Woohyun was looking through, but then Ruby stopped walking, and then, she slowly turned and looked at the ghoul.
She stared at him, and it felt like she was directly staring at Woohyun. It was only when she smirked when Woohyun realized that Ruby was actually looking back at them now through the eyes of the ghoul that Woohyun was holding.
"Looks like we have visitors," Ruby stated.
Mr. Chen joined her, then the two of them walked towards the ghoul as Ruby said, "No need to kill my children. I'll ask them to bring you to me." Then Mr. Chen took a step closer and creepily smiled, "By the way, welcome to Beijing angel and demon."
Woohyun quickly pulled his hand away afterward. He almost fell out of balance, but Sunggyu immediately grabbed him for support.
"What happened?" Sunggyu asked.
Woohyun was panting heavily as he tried to answer, "L-looks like...our plan...worked."
