SDS2 12: LOVE IS GREATER THAN SIN
TAMO GULPED AS HE slowly looked at the man inside the car who was deeply staring back at him. His gaze brought Tamo shivers. He was waiting at the sidewalk while the car parked right in front of him. A few minutes later, Lay finally arrived with his brothers. When Tamo saw Lay, he quickly ran to him and gave him a hug.
"Kai, what's going on?" he asked, starting to worry.
"I'll explain later," Lay stated as they broke from the hug.
When Kai saw the faces of the Arcs and the Demons, he quickly went out of the car and was about to run away, but Jiyong was faster. He caught him before he could even run farther.
"Where do you think you're going, thief?" Jiyong stated with a smirk, then he dragged him to his brothers.
"Here you go Lay," Jiyong stated as he pushed Kai, making him fall on his knees. The Arcs and the Demon's made a circle, surrounding Kai so he couldn't have a chance to escape.
"Kai, what's going on?" Tamo asked once again.
Lay sighed and looked at Tamo with soft eyes, "Tamo...no...Mr. Asano...I am not what you thought I was."
Tamo looked back at Lay confusingly, "W-what do you mean?"
Lay looked at Jihoon and said, "Stop time," he instructed, and Jihoon obliged, snapping his fingers and stopping time. Tamo was shocked; speechless on what happened to the surroundings.
"W-What's going on. What are you people?!" he shouted, looking at the Demons and the Arcs.
Jiyong smirked and showed Tamo that he could produce fire on his hands. Then Woohyun thought of showing off too, so he summoned his sword. It was the most beautiful silver sword Tamo has ever seen.
Seconds later, Tamo finally realized it.
"Y-you're...Demons and...Angels! We were right! You exist! Kai! This is splendid! Is this the reason why you brought me here?" Tamo stated happily. Now the worries were gone, and the only thing that consumed him was excitement.
"No," Lay honestly stated, and with that one word, everything that Tamo felt disappeared.
"Mr. Asano, I'm an Angel. These are my brothers, the Arcs. The Demons and my brothers had a mission, and your father helped us accomplish it. That's why when we met, I knew who you were. It might be through appearance, but I'm not Kai. I'm Lay, son of Raguel. He-" Lay paused and pointed at Kai, "He's Kai. His soul is inside my body, and my soul is inside his."
Tamo was speechless. Everything wasn't processing in his head.
"You're lying," Tamo finally stated.
"No Mr. Asano, I know that you're upset but-" Tamo quickly slapped Lay, shocking everyone on his action towards their brother.
"Stop calling me that. Kai, please don't do this," Tamo practically begged. He started tearing up, making Lay feel the guilt.
"What have I done?" he thought to himself. He tried to touch Tamo again, but Tamo pushed him away.
"Where's the real Kai. Where's the person that I love?" He asked, anger in his eyes as he looked at Lay.
Lay looked at Kai, who was still silently kneeling on the floor. Tamo looked at his direction, slowly going towards him. He went down on one knee and looked at Kai.
"Kai?" he asked.
Kai slowly lifted his head with a smile, then he said, "Hey, how's your shoulder?" The moment the real Kai asked Tamo that question, Tamo quickly grabbed him and hugged him tightly. He started crying like he never cried his whole life.
Everyone looked at the two, touched on the reunion. But when they broke from the hug, Tamo looked at Lay once again. With disgust and anger in his eyes.
"The man I held that night...was Lay?" he asked, shocking the Arcs and Demons.
"Looks like you forgot about that part Lay," Hyunseung stated with a sarcastic voice.
"Is that true?" Minhyuk asked as he looked at the angel.
Lay was ready to explain so he said, "I'm not in my body so my angelic self is slowly fading. That night I was controlled by lust, the next day I was controlled by gluttony. This is a part of me dying. That's why I need to switch with Kai before it's too late."
Tamo was about to agree with it, but he asked, "And what will happen to Kai?"
No one answered.
"What will happen to Kai!?" Tamo shouted this time, forcing Lay to answer the cruel truth.
"He'll go back to hell," Lay finally answered.
Tamo fell on his knees, a tear falling from his eyes once more. When he looked at the Demons and the Arcs, he stated, "Then I am not handing him to you. You die for all I care."
Everyone gasped from shock. At that moment, everyone knew Tamo loved Kai unconditionally.
"Don't do this Asano..." Lay begged.
Tamo went in front of Lay and started shouting at him, "Don't do this?! Then what the fuck did you do to me?! Huh LAY?! You fucking used me! You knew about the truth but you still lied. If you're really an angel you should have told me the truth...you're worse than a demon!"
"I had to do it, Asano. There was no other choice," Lay explained, but Tamo wasn't listening anymore. So Suho went to where they were and explained for Lay's sake, "Hey, if Lay told you he was an angel, what would be the first thing you'll do to him?" Suho asked, but calmer.
Tamo finally calmed down. He didn't answer because he knew what he would do. They would experiment on him.
"He did it for his safety. He knew the consequences but he still went to you because he knew you could help him. You should be grateful that you were given a chance to meet Jong-In again," Suho explained.
After that, Kai turned to Suho. When Suho felt that Kai was staring at him, he smiled, making Kai frown at him. The action made Suho chuckle, "So kid, how's it going? Didn't know it was you inside Lay's body."
"I'm still older than-" Kai suddenly stopped, a tear falling from his eyes as soon as he did. His chest ached, and then memories came flashing right in front of him. When the memories stopped, he looked back at Suho and cried even more.
He remembered the time a ghoul talked to him, how he betrayed Suho by leaving without even saying goodbye, and how Suho took care of him like he was family.
"Suho...I-I'm...I'm sorry."
"Looks like he remembered everything now," Sunggyu explained, and everyone agreed.
"So you're Suho, the person Kai hates the most," Tamo stated, but Kai stood up and held Tamo's back, "No Tamo, I was mistaken. I never did hate Suho. Suho...he taught me everything. He gave me hope to live. He gave me worth. He-"
Tamo felt sad as he continued, "He gave you everything that I couldn't."
Kai quickly looked at Tamo and told him, "No Tamo, you're wrong. He gave me those things, but you gave me love and care. And you made me believe that I could be stronger."
Kai pressed his forehead on Tamo and whispered so it was only Tamo who could hear those important words, "I love you Tamo, very much. And I was very ready to share that love with you for the rest of my life. But I need to go. I need to pay for the things that I've done to those people. It was my fault and my weight to carry...its time for us to move on."
"No! I'm not letting you leave me again!" Tamo demanded, but Kai didn't listen. He looked at Suho and Lay as he said, "As a payment to all the things you've given me Suho, I hand you my life."
"No, Kai, don't fucking do this," Tamo begged, tears falling from his eyes again. But Kai didn't look at Tamo anymore. Seeing him will only make him sadder than he already is.
"Lay, please hurry," Kai now commanded. But Lay couldn't do it. He couldn't possibly do it and just let Kai leave Tamo, after everything they've seen today.
When Mark saw Lay struggling, he stated, "Lay, do it."
"But Mark, these two love each other. And they still have three days, I can sacrifice three days and give them-" Mark cut him off and explained further, "Lay, go back to your body and become an angel so you could...resurrect Kai. He's human, you're an angel of healing, remember?"
Everyone's eyes suddenly widened from the realization, especially Tamo.
"Y-You can do that?" Tamo asked, pleading this time.
"I-I can but...those are against the rules. I can't do it without the permission of our Father," Lay explained. But Junhyung held Lay's shoulder and told him, "I've broken rules Lay, and I've never felt so happy in my life."
"Everyone breaks the rules," Jackson added, and then he looked at Mark and winked, making Mark blush on his lover's sudden action. Lay smiled as he looked at Suho and Tamo. They were right. After everything that happened to them, Lay experienced something. Something you call, eternal love.
He just witnessed it.
And he was lucky enough to witness it.
A person, who loves you dearly, will never question you, he will listen to you and believe you whatever the odds may be, and that touched Lay. Humans were capable to sacrifice everything for their loved ones. Why can't an angel do it too?
"Okay then. Kai, get ready, I'll do it," Lay stated as he went towards him and held Kai's forehead with his two fingers.
Nothing happened for a second, but then the two started glowing. Smoke then came out on both of their mouths, and their eyes were plain white. After a long exchange of bodies, Kai fainted, and Lay was standing still.
Lay looked at his hand. He was back. He started glowing, like all his angelic powers were being absorbed back to him, and a black smoke was leaving his body.
"And your sins are now forgiven," Junhyung stated with a smile, proud of what his brother did.
"Kai!" Tamo shouted as he ran to where Kai was.
Tamo looked at Lay and told him, "Please help him now." So Lay went down on one knee so he could face Tamo. He wiped the tears off Tamo's cheeks and said, "You are a very confusing human Tamo, and your love for Kai is unpayable. But for what I'm about to do, there will be a catch."
"What is it, I'll do anything."
Lay seriously looked at Tamo as he spoke, "You will not kill anyone anymore. Once you do so, you will pay it back with Kai's life."
The words sounded more like a pledge than a request, but Tamo sincerely nodded anyway.
"Everyone will be against you, and Kai will have more hardships in his life. But once I resurrect him, I think I'll be able to erase his insanity. Make him normal again if that's how you want to put it. People aren't aware that he's alive, and that's something you need to face alone. Your father changed his ways because an angel saved him, so your father hopes that your encounter with the Seven Deadly Sons, and the Seven Holy Sons, will help you realize that what you're trying to wipe out in this world is indestructible. There will be Angels and Demons everywhere, but no mere human is able to kill them. And like your father, do not speak of this to anyone. Failing that will mean treason to both of you," Lay finished, and Tamo nodded his head in understanding.
Lay took a deep breath and pressed his palm on Kai's chest. His hands started glowing, then Kai's chest started glowing as well, and in a short moment, his whole body started glowing. Everyone was anticipating, especially Tamo. When Lay lets go of him, Kai's eyes quickly opened, immediately making Tamo hug him.
"Kai! Thank goodness!" Tamo stated as he continued to hug him.
"Tamo?" Kai asked as Tamo grabbed him and gave him a soft and gentle kiss.
Lay stood up, smiling at what he just did for these two.
"Thank you very much...Lay," Kai stated, also with a huge smile on his face. He was honored to even have a second chance. And it was all thanks to these Angels and Demons.
*****
Lay was at the balcony of their home. Kai and Tamo immediately went back to Tokyo. The Demons and the Arcs wished them luck and insisted that they should meet soon. But Tamo and Kai said that they wanted to figure everything together, without any help from others. But if they're back on their feet, they will contact them immediately and tell them they've been doing well.
In all honesty, everything went smoothly for all of them.
"So, you fucked Tamo huh?" a voice suddenly stated, making Lay turn around. When he saw that it was Suho, he rolled his eyes and went back to staring at the night skies.
"Apparently I did, even though I was controlled, I still did it," Lay stated with a sad tone.
Suho went to stand beside Lay, "So, how was Tamo?" he asked.
Lay looked annoyed as he answered, "Do you seriously want me to tell you every detail? Fine, he had a nice ass, that's it."
Suho started laughing, making Lay look back at him angrily.
"Why are you reacting like that? I told you what you wanted to hear," Lay defended, even more annoyed on how Suho was reacting.
When Suho stopped laughing, he stated, "That wasn't what I was asking. I meant was, how does he treat Kai. What does he do? Does he have a good personality, you know...the normal stuff."
Lay suddenly felt embarrassed, but to brush it off and acted seriously again, "Well, he was very nice, that's a start. And he never once questioned me when he thought I was Kai. It only showed how much he loved him. I've never seen a human like that before. Like he'll do everything for that other person, and give him his full trust. I've seen every cruel thing a person could do but...that? That was something."
Suho smiled upon hearing the answer, "Well, we never see the goodness in people. We forget sometimes that there's goodness in everyone."
"Yeah, even you guys have goodness in you. And you're freaking Demons!" Lay explained, making Suho laugh again. Lay did the same and laughed with Suho. When they stopped laughing, Lay looked back at Suho and said, "You liked Kai didn't you."
Suho didn't answer for a while. He looked at the scenery first and said, "Every inch of him." Then he smiled, but the smile looked painful.
"I was hurt when he left. Couldn't think straight. My hobby of stealing went back. I just shattered. Meeting my brothers was the only thing that cured me. But Tamo...I know he'll protect and love Kai. I know that everything I was about to give Kai...he was going to give much more than that," Suho answered without even looking at Lay.
Lay didn't know what to do, so he awkwardly patted Suho's back to comfort him.
"Loving someone...it's so complicated. Just seeing Jackson and Mark, JS, and Junhyung, and even if they don't show it, Jihoon and Taeil...just by looking at them, I already know that it's really a hard task. But they make it look so easy and so worth it. Who knows, I might just fall in love with you," Suho casually stated as he looked at Lay. Lay looked back, then he felt his face turn red.
"Are you blushing?!" Suho asked teasingly, making Lay cover his face with both his hands.
Suho started laughing, but when he was finished, he looked back at the busy city, and then he said, "I want to fall in love. I'm actually very jealous of them. I want to protect someone, I want to wake up and feel like I'm waking up for a purpose. I want to hold someone too. I just don't want to feel alone. I've always been greedy. I've always wanted more, but I can throw all that and be faithful to just one. Seeing how Tamo loved Kai, it broke my heart...but at the same time I was relieved that he fell in love with someone like him."
Both didn't talk after that, but after a few minutes of silence, Suho asked, "Lay, have you ever been in love?"
"I have..." Lay bravely confirmed. Suho was taken aback as he asked clearly this time, "I mean not by God or by family. It's like...you want to be with them, have a relationship...you know...kiss."
Lay chuckled and nodded his head, "I have. Every single day I've thought of the what-ifs, the chance I had before...and how I just watched him slowly fall in love with someone else," Lay explained, and Suho could feel the hurt in those words.
Suho didn't say anything so Lay looked at him and said, "I know you're curious about who it is."
Suho nodded.
"It's Junhyung. I liked and loved Yang Junhyung more than a brother," Lay finally revealed.
Suho almost fell on his knees on the sudden realization, but Lay continued, "Just like you, it broke my heart every time I saw Hyunseung and Junhyung happily together. But at the same time, I was relieved that he fell in love with someone like him. I couldn't have picked anyone else better than Hyunseung."
Suho sighed as he said, "Well, it looks like we're the same. Let's just watch and love them from afar. That's the best thing we can do for now."
"I couldn't agree more," Lay said with a smile. Then both became quiet once again. And like the forever-talkative Suho, he broke the silence.
"Wanna forget them?" he asked, still not looking at Lay.
"What do you mean?" Lay asked back while looking at Suho. Suho finally looked at Lay as he answered, "Wanna be together?"
Lay chuckled on how silly it sounded, but Suho didn't even smile. He was serious.
"We don't have to fall in love right away. We can do it slowly. We both want to be held and be loved. I think...we can erase each other's memories of them if we tried hard enough," Suho seriously told him.
"You mean...pretend?" Lay asked, finally curious about where this was going.
"No! I want it to be rea. I want us to be honest about it too. We can be together for the rest of our lives if you like, but we can stop whenever one of us falls in love with someone else. Wanna do it?" Suho asked.
Lay didn't answer at first but surprisingly nodded his head afterward.
"Then...we're together?" Lay asked awkwardly.
Suho chuckled and answered, "Well, I didn't expect it to be this awkward. But...what does a couple do anyway?"
Lay thought of things before answering. When he composed everything in his head, he said, "They go on dates, they complement each other, they make each other feel good, they give and receive from each other, and they...kiss."
Suho slowly looked at Lay as he suggested, "Should we kiss?"
Lay just shrugged as an answer.
"Well, if that's what couples do then I think we should," Suho stated as he faced Lay and held his chin softly. He leaned closer, and closer until their lips touched. When their lips touched, the angel and the demon suddenly felt something spark inside of them.
And there...
These two's complicated story began.
