6》 Fire and Water

"There's fire in my heart and there are tears in my eyes. They show how alive I am."

Jungkook excused himself to use the bathroom. He entered it and froze when he saw a face in front of the bathroom window.

This was the fifth floor. There was no way somebody could be at the window. He thought he had to be dreaming, so he blinked twice. But the face was still there, and now it was grinning at him. The window was made of blurred glass, so he could barely make out any features.

Jungkook backed away and leaned against the door, staring at the window with wide eyes.

"Hey, could you maybe open the window?" A muffled voice asked.

"What the-"

A hand rose up and knocked against the window several times.

Jungkook shuddered. "Who are you?" He asked, "Are you some kind of ghost?"

"I'm Taehyung, you idiot! Who else can just appear like that at a 5th floor window?"

Jungkook felt relieved. Even though the whole thing was kind of bizarre, he could at least be sure that no evil spirit was haunting him.

He moved to open the window and was greeted by Taehyung's face, which was grinning sheepishly.

"I thought you would send Suga. And you didn't say you could fly."

Taehyung growled in annoyance. "I forgot that I promised Suga some free time. Once you promise that man something, he will make sure he gets what was promised, so make sure you never promise him anything."

Jungkook peered over the edge of the window. Taehyung wasn't floating, like he had expected. He was effortlessly holding onto the window sill with one hand, seemingly not tired or strained at all.

"Yes, I can't fly. You don't have to look so puzzled, Jungkook. I teleported here. You should come with me now."

Jungkook let out a frustrated noise.

"Are you serious?! Again? This is the second time that I'm taken away, when I was about to spend time with Lal-"

He paused for a second. Was letting Taehyung know of a person he cared for, good? Probably not.

"With my friend." He finished.

"You can spend time with her later."

"I can't just go out the front door like that, with no valid reason!"

Taehyung snorted. "Just exit through the window then."

"What?!"

"You heard me."

Taehyung held out his hand. "Take it." He ordered.

"No, no no. Just no. I'm NOT going to let you pull me to my death." Jungkook said almost hysterically.

Taehyung rolled his eyes and then grabbed his hand. Before Jungkook could protest, he felt a weird feeling. His vision blurred for a second, and his body felt fuzzy. It felt like he was being split into thousands of tiny particles, but for some reason it did not hurt at all. In a flash, he found himself inside a long hall.

The hall was lit up by countless fluorescent lights hanging from the ceiling. Its floor and walls were white. To Jungkook it looked like a combination of an indoor shooting range, sports hall and parkour park.

Namjoon looked at Jungkook awkwardly. As he appeared, Namjoon had immediately recognized him: The man that had stopped him from killing the guy. He was scared of his reaction. Would he hate him?

For all he knew, Jungkook was one of them; One of the ones that held powers. He froze as Jungkook turned around, his eyes widening as he saw Namjoon.

Jungkook's eyes narrowed. "That's the guy I stopped at the party! What's he doing here?"

Taehyung cleared his throat. "That is Kim Namjoon. He also has powers. I will train both of you." He said matter-of-factly.

Jungkook was about to say something, when Namjoon suddenly rushed forward and bowed. "I'm so sorry about what happened, please forgive me. I really didn't mean to do that last night, I don't know what got into me! It was like I was possessed or something. I'm a good guy, I swear. Please forgive me-"

"Slow down Namjoon. I don't really know what to say, but if what they say about you is true, you really were a good guy. I think you shouldn't be apologizing to me, but the victim."

Namjoon took a deep breath. "O-okay then. Look Jungkook, I wanted to thank you for what you did. You saved that man's life and you saved mine."

Jungkook sighed and then smiled. "You're welcome."

"Anyways gentlemen, we should waste no time and begin with your training. I will introduce you to your jobs later." Taehyung said in a professional manner.

"Why are we training before learning about our jobs?" Namjoon asked curiously.

Taehyung smirked. "You'll need your training for your job."

Jungkook felt his stomach clench. "So, we'll be in danger?" He asked, trying not to cringe at his squeaky and unsure voice.

Taehyung looked at him for a long while and then batted his lashes. "I live in danger everyday Jungkook. You might live like that too, very soon."

Jungkook almost choked on his spit. "Woah Taehyung, can I still back out of this? On second thought I don't want to work for you." He said, slowly backing away as he forced a smile.

Taehyung's eyes darkened. He stepped towards Jungkook and gave him a warning look. His eyes seemed to burn with a dark fire, causing Jungkook to flinch. "You won't back out. We have a contract."

"What contract? I never signed one." Jungkook lamented.

Taehyung smirked. "The one you signed that night you were in my office." He took out a piece of paper. Jungkook quickly skimmed the text and sure enough, his signature was at the bottom of the page, signed in shining red ink.

He shook his head in confusion. "This can't be, I don't remember signing anything." He muttered. His eyes met Taehyung's, which were shining gleefully. Son of a bitch.

"You must have tricked me! I don't remember that contract. I was under the influence of alcohol and Suga's weird magic shit, so this doesn't count!" Jungkook huffed, swiftly taking the contract from Taehyung's hands and ripping it to shreds.

Taehyung let out an amused laugh. "That was only a copy, my friend. It's useless, Jungkook. But don't worry, with this training you will be more than able to protect yourself, should danger arise."

He led the two into a separated glass room filled with dummys, bullseyes and other targets.

"What can you do with your powers Namjoon? I want you to show me." Taehyung ordered, moving so that his back leaned against the glass wall behind him.

Namjoon gulped. "Well, I mean until now I've lit things on fire, kind of shot fire balls and sent out waves of fire."

Taehyung nodded. "Good. I want you to set that dummy up there on fire." He said, pointing to a ragged doll hanging from a rope.

Namjoon stared at his hands with uncertainty. "Are you sure I can do it from this distance? I've always done it when I'm nearer-"

"I'm sure you can do it Namjoon. Be confident, at least try." Taehyung said, giving him an assuring nod.

Namjoon held his hand out in direction of the doll. At first nothing happened. Concentrate Namjoon, you can do this.

He tightened his arm and whole body, and felt a surge of joy as the doll ignited itself. He had burned something from afar!

"Now extinguish the fire."

Namjoon looked at Taehyung in confusion. "Excuse me? I don't have water powers. How should I extinguish the fire?"

Taehyung chuckled. "You can draw the fire back to you, absorbing all of its energy and heat. When you are in a place where a flame is burning, you can absorb it for extra energy." He explained.

Namjoon nodded with wide eyes and looked back to the charred, still burning dummy. He stretched his hand out to it, but the flame did not recede. So he tried to pull his hand back, and to his delight, the flame followed his movements. He tensed his body once more and pulled his hand back again, trying to stay calm as the flames engulfing the doll flew away and towards him, entering him through his hand.

He felt amazed once more and overjoyed. That was insane. Namjoon had felt a surge of energy and warmth when the fire returned. It didn't burn him.

"That's awesome Namjoon! Respect!" Jungkook said appreciatively, smiling at the older man.

"Now I want you to shoot a fireball at that target."

Namjoon concentrated his hands in direction of the target. He strained his body and then suddenly released the tension, sending out a gigantic fire shockwave that burned all dummys and targets in the whole room. The roaring flames hit the walls and bounced back, flying towards Namjoon, Taehyung and Jungkook.

"No!" Jungkook cried, crossing his arms in front of his head.

He had expected an agonizing and fiery death, but instead found himself very alive and wet as he dared to open his eyes.

The flames were gone and the room was filled with warm water up to his ankles. A few roasted targets were floating in the water. His eyes met those of a very soaked Namjoon, who was looking at the ground with devastation, and a very smug looking Taehyung, who was soaked as well.

He strided over to Jungkook and smiled. "That was a very good defensive move, Jungkook. You are truly skilled; in the bat of an eye you collected all the moisture in the air and sent it towards the fire as a gigantic wave. You should be very proud of yourself."

Jungkook swelled with pride. "Thank you Taehyung. I don't know how I did it, I just wanted to protect myself. Maybe it was instinct. I don't really use my water powers much."

Taehyung smiled. "You're a natural talent."

He turned back to Namjoon and laughed. "My my, quite the destroyer, aren't we? You'd make a skilled fighter. But you have to learn not to release all of your power at the same time. You will learn how to control it better, don't worry. In future we will stay outside the glass wall and watch. Try to minimize the area of your attack, understood?"

Namjoon just nodded solemnly.

"Jungkook, please get rid of all the water."

"Should I do it like Namjoon, and pull the water into myself?"

"No, Namjoon's fire power can be converted into heat and energy to be stored in his body, while all the water you control, cannot be stored in your body or converted into a different energy." Taehyung explained.

"You can however pull all the water together into a mass, and let it float in the air. Then I want Namjoon to strike a precise fireball, evaporating all of the water."

Jungkook copied Namjoon's earlier movements, dragging as much water as he could, into the air. He found himself panting, as the weight threatened to drag his arm back down. The water rose into a mass painstakingly slow.

"Don't be weak Jungkook! Concentrate, don't let go of the water. Tense up your whole body!" Taehyung said encouragingly.

Jungkook listened and constricted all his muscles. He felt stronger and watched the last drops of water leave the floor and join the large floating drop above. He watched in amazement as the water on his skin and in his hair joined the floating mass. Namjoon and Taehyung seemed to be drying up too.

"Okay Namjoon, do your thing! I don't know how much longer I can hold it."

Namjoon got into position and stretched out his arms. This time he didn't release all the tension at once, instead opting to only release a little. A small fireball escaped his hands, flying straight towards the gigantic water drop.

In an instant there was an explosion of steam, and then both fire and water were gone.

Taehyung clapped and smiled brightly, obviously pleased with their progress. "Lovely work guys, you've done well today. We shall continue tomorrow. You can go home, I'll show you the way out."

Namjoon and Jungkook smiled at each other proudly. They had forgotten their past troubles, and now shared their success, training and possibly their work together.

They followed Taehyung to a large door that led to a corridor with rooms and elevators.

"Say Taehyung, how come you know so much about our powers and how they are used?" Jungkook asked curiously.

"I've read ancient books on your powers before. As to how I know what most of your abilities are, that will remain a secret."

Namjoon grinned. "Hey, at least our stalker doesn't know all of our powers! That means he isn't as perfect as he seems."

Taehyung just smiled cooly. "We'll see about that. Who knows how much more I will find out."
