5》Monster

"We make our own monsters, then fear them for what they show us about ourselves."

Namjoon felt like crying. It was the first time in a long time. Until now, he had always managed to conceal his feelings. Everyone saw him as the quirky, yet tough guy. A man of high intelligence. Not the weak, emotional type. But right now, he reached his limit.

Tears streamed down his face, as he hiccupped and tried to stop the pitiful sobs from escaping his mouth. What had gotten into him that night? He had ruined everything. Maybe he had drunken too much. One second he had just been sitting at the bar with another drink in his hand, and then he had suddenly found himself in a fight with a student from his university.

He had felt uncontrollable rage, so great that it had threatened to destroy him. It had burned through him like a roaring fire, and he had felt the need to release it.

He let out a cry of shame at the thought of what would have happened to the poor victim, if that young man hadn't stepped in and stopped him. He felt incredibly grateful. He could have been capable of killing the victim, and then ending up in jail for murder.

Namjoon knew that he used to have anger issues in the past, but he hadn't had more problems for years; thanks to successful therapy.

Neither alcohol, annoying people nor frustrating situations had ever triggered him again. So what had gone wrong that night? Why?! Why me? What have I done to deserve this?

He had been arrested and put on trial for assault. Because of the circumstances, he was on bail and on free foot for the moment. But he had no clue how long that would last.

He had lost his job, the respect of his fellow students and teachers, and of his family. He might even have to go to jail. Namjoon couldn't stop crying.

He was cowered in a corner behind one of the university buildings, sitting beside his belongings. He had been kicked out of the staff quarters and fired the morning after the incident.

Namjoon knew no way out from his nightmare. He just wanted to die. He clutched his chest and pulled his knees to his chin, cowering there like a small child. Waiting for anything to save him from this hell.

"Are you alright?"

The voice sounded concerned. Namjoon looked up in confusion. His eyes met those of a well dressed stranger. He was young and tall, and wearing an expensive looking day suit. His wavy light blonde hair shone under the early afternoon sun. His brows were furrowed, and his eyes looked down at him calmly.

He was the first person that looked at him without judgement. The first person that didn't treat him like a criminal. There was a sharp pang in his heart: I don't deserve being treated like this. I'm a monster. He will leave if I tell him what I did.

"I'm fine. Please go away." Namjoon said meekly, trying to hide his red puffy eyes and tears.

The man came nearer and sat down beside him. He didn't seem to mind his suit getting dirty. He sat there in silence for a while, just watching Namjoon.

"Look, Kim Namjoon. I'll cut this short. I want to help you."

Namjoon looked up at him uncomfortably, his eyes widening. "H-how do you my name? I've never seen you before."

"Well, considering I own that club you started the fight in, I should probably know."

Namjoon looked away. He felt the guilt and shame rise up again. They caused a kind of restrictive, gagging feeling in him. "I-I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to-"

"It's alright. I am not blaming you. Believe it or not, things like that happen more often than you think. Look at Chris Brown, he was beating Rihanna, but he is still out there making millions and gaining more fans. It's not the end of the world, it was just a fight. You were probably drunk, and a little too fired up."

Namjoon sobbed again. "But I am not rich and famous. I'm just a normal guy who almost made another innocent person loose their life, and now I'm facing the hard consequences."

The stranger sighed. "That's why I will help you, Namjoon. I'll get you out of this situation. A little bribery here and there, and people will forget. There will be no more charges. As for your job, I can offer you an even better one than your last."

Namjoon studied him for a second, and then laughed. He wiped away the last of his tears. "Look, I don't appreciate jokes like this in my situation. I don't think it's funny. Please leave me alone." He said honestly.

The man didn't leave. "I'm dead serious, Namjoon."

Namjoon looked him in the eye, trying to look whether he was being honest. But the stranger's face was a relentless mask, giving nothing away. Namjoon was smart, he knew that this couldn't be just as it sounded.

"Why would you want to help me?" He grunted, "There is no benefit in helping me. I am nothing."

The stranger laughed. "Oh Namjoon, you are so much more than you think. Not only are you incredibly intelligent, but you are gifted."

Namjoon raised an eyebrow. "Gifted?"

"Don't lie to me. I know about what you can do."

Silence.

"Who the hell are you, man? You're starting to scare me." Namjoon said, sounding very unsure. He was starting to tense up. Something about the man gave him chills.

"I am Kim Taehyung, if you need to know my name. There is no point in denying your pyrokinetic powers Namjoon, because I know about them. Training and helping people like you, is one my main purposes nowadays, except business of course."

Namjoon looked shaken. "H-how? This is not possible. No. Just no. Have you seen me use fire? Has anyone else seen me? Oh god, this is bad." He groaned and kept on shaking his head, as if trying to convince himself that nothing had ever happened.

"So much is possible. You could do so much. You could learn to control your anger issues, your powers and everything else. That incident from last night won't affect your life anymore."

"How did you know about my issues? Oh forget it. You seem to know everything. I still don't understand why you want me. Everyone wants something in return, so what is it that you want?" Namjoon asked suspiciously.

"The world is changing, Namjoon. I need strong men, who are as special as I am, by my side. There will be a time when we will need to protect ourselves and things greater than even us. I need you. Your powers and wisdom are a great addition to my circle. Please consider my offer. Think about everything you could achieve, about all the lives you could change once you can control your powers."

Namjoon closed his eyes and delved deep into his mind. He knew he had no choice. It was either this, or that shitload he called "life" right now. The offer was one of the greatest that anyone in his situation could be offered. Taehyung had made valid points, and he would be free of what he had done. So much was going to await him.

Yet, there was still this doubt in his mind. He felt like Taehyung was hiding something. But in the end he had no choice.

"I accept your offer, Kim Taehyung."

Taehyung smiled and nodded in approval.

Another one down. Another pact made with the devil. Oh dear, these poor men. They should be honored to be chosen for this higher purpose. But they are too blinded by morals and all those things they were brainwashed into believing. But soon they will realize which path is correct. They will thank me for bringing them to their destiny...

By the time Jungkook had finished his conversation with Jimin, his late breakfast was cold. But it didn't matter, because rice soup with seaweed also tasted good when cold.

He propped himself on the couch beside Jin, followed by Jimin. Jin looked at him and smiled.

"Hey Jungkook! Nice to see that you're alright. Yesterday must have been tough. And please don't kill me because of that pill, just like you said you would."

Jungkook grinned and over-exaggeratedly rolled his eyes. "I'll let you off the hook, Jin. I don't think I'll be partying again anytime soon, so I won't need pills."

"What pills?" Jimin questioned.

"Ask our druglord Jin."

"Valium. It's really nothing."

Jungkook was getting bored by the TV.
"What should we do today?" He asked.
Jin shrugged. "I don't know, Sunday is pretty much my lazy day."

Jimin laughed. "I don't know what to do... But we could go visit your jagiya, Kookie."

Jungkook reddened. "Jagiya? Seriously Jimin? Take a step back, we aren't there yet."

Jimin grinned knowingly. "Yet."

"Whatever."

"I'll take that as a yes?"

"Shut up Jimin."

The two left the apartment, and walked in direction of block A. The student quarters were a fairly large area consisting of several multi-storey apartment blocks. There were the north quarters and south quarters, lying on the opposite ends of the whole campus. Thankfully, Lalisa seemed to live or at least visit the north part.

"We're here." Jimin remarked.

"Wait, Jisoo lives in block A too. Maybe she knows Lalisa."

Jimin's eyes brightened. "Yes, let's ask her! It's been some time since I've seen her.

They entered the apartment block and walked up the stairs to the fifth floor.

"Here it is."

"Are you sure Jungkook?"

"Yeah."

He rang the doorbell, and stepped back, waiting for an answer.

Once the door opened, he saw Jisoo. She wasn't dressed like usual. She was still in her pyjamas, which were pink and adorned with unicorns. Her hair was in a loose messy bun.

"Kookie!" She said gleefully, lunging at Jungkook and embracing him.

"You came! It's so good to see you. I was so worried last night, I couldn't find you anymore after everything. Lalisa said you were dragged away by Suga, and I was ready to drag his ass to the fucking police. But she convinced me to wait until today."

Jungkook laughed and smiled widely. "I'm glad to know you'd always stick up for me Jisoo. It's good to see you too. I brought a friend that you already know."

"Hi!" Jimin exclaimed, smiling cheerfully.

"Jimin darling! Lovely to see you again, its been a long time. I didn't forget you though."

She hugged him too, and then beckoned them inside the apartment.

"Do come in gentlemen, my humble castle is your home too."

Jungkook smiled. "Who do you share your 'humble castle' with?"

"Jennie, Lalisa and Rosé."

He felt himself involuntarily jump at the mention of her name.

"Y-you knew Lalisa all along? Jeez why didn't you tell me! Do you know all the trouble I went through to find her?"

Jisoo grinned and burst into a fit of giggles. She wiggled her eyebrows suggestively. "Ha! I knew you'd come for a reason. It kind of was my plan to match you guys that night, and it obviously worked."

Jungkook groaned. He had fallen victim to one of Jisoo's escapades. Again. But this time he secretly appreciated it. Through Jisoo, he had found Lalisa. And he adored her so much.

He looked around, scanning the rooms quickly. "Is she here?"

Jisoo sighed."Sorry Kookie, but she isn't here yet. She went out like 15 minutes ago."

"Wow. That's just great."

"Hey, you can wait here if you want."

"Thanks, Jisoo."

"Want some cookies?"

"No thanks, I'm good."
