Chapter Twenty Two: The One Who Wished

Happiness filled Hailie's body as she woke up. There was no peculiar reason for her overall enjoyment, although it might have been the fact that she slept another night without any nightmares. Who would have thought that the creepiest house would manage to bless her with such restful nights? Was it because she finally found some friends in here? Hailie couldn't answer that, she was just happy that Jayson and Amy stopped haunting her in dreams. She had no idea it was thanks to Sloth who was watching over her and making sure she'll get the right amount of sleep.

"Have a nice day, sunshine, now it's my time for a nap," he said even though he knew she couldn't hear him. "Oh, the garden swing should be just right."

Hailie had to get ready for classes, so she packed important books and took a quick shower. Leaving the bathroom, she stumbled upon Debra, who was sneaking out from Lucien's room. Dressed up only in underwear it looked like she wore it in a rush. Their eyes met and she smiled with pleasure. She made a pose like she was feeling heavenly.

"The best sex in my life," she whispered, but Hailie didn't want to know the details.

She smiled back at Debra and moved towards stairs, passing by three invisible for human eye figures, who watched this scene.

"And so he found himself a little entertainment," said Greed, looking at Debra, who closed the door to the bathroom.

"That was weird. I can sense Hailie and she wasn't jealous but neither was she happy about seeing Debra leaving Lust's room," stated Envy, trying to figure out if Hailie really was so indifferent to Lust's charms.

"I thought we already agreed on the fact that somehow he can't make her love him." Greed took out a mirror and looked at her giant diamond earrings. She loved them the most out of her fancy jewelry.

"Like anybody could ever truly love Lust," huffed Pride, feeling only disgust when thinking about him.

"You know there was one person," reminded her Greed. "Missy."

Pride shrugged, wondering how he could become so heartless and cold. That was the biggest secret she couldn't crack.

"What do you think about Debra anyway?" asked Envy as she was interested to know more about Hailie's new roommate and Lust's new mistress.

"That she's entirely in his style." There was a flash of hatred in her beautiful brown eyes. "Just another slut perfect for a ruthless, gruesome and abominable fucker like him." Her voice sounded like she was about to spit on the ground to show her lack of respect for Lust.

"Glad to finally know your true opinion about me."

All three of them turned around to see Lust standing behind. His face was emotionless, so neither of them could tell how he reacted to Pride's words.

"It was never a secret," she replied with her eyes narrowed as if she was getting ready for a brutal attack.

"Will you be mad forever?" Honestly he never thought that Pride would be so angry to declare him never-ending war. If he could predict the future, he wouldn't kill Gregory just to have some peace and not continuous cutting remarks and tantrums.

"I might be. Depends if you can change or at least apologize from the bottom of your nonexistent heart."

"Damn. That might be hard then. Do you know if a demon without a heart can change or be truly sorry? Greed, maybe you know? I just wish I could have some demonic advice about that."

The way he said it made Pride even more furious. He did not care at all.

"I see you're in a good mood," she scoffed.

"Yeah, I just had sex with my new perfect slut, so you know, I feel great," he replied, parodying her words.

"Asshole." She gave him an angry look and disappeared as she couldn't stand him anymore.

Greed clenched her teeth, but that couldn't stop her from telling what she had in mind.

"Congrats, Lust," she hissed. "Keep acting like that and you two might never reconcile." Everybody in this house had enough of their war which was going on for years. "It's your fault and Pride deserves a proper apology from you." She pointed her finger with a ruby ring at him. "Take responsibility for your actions finally."

She vanished so she could look for Pride. Maybe a sapphire necklace will make her feel better? She had plenty of them even though she preferred diamonds.

"At least you stayed here with me." Lust smiled at Envy, who sighed.

He was such a tough demon to understand.

"Why are you like that? At the same time I hate you and I-"

"Love me?"

She rolled her eyes. Typical response.

"Don't flatter yourself too much."

He moved closer to her, but she wasn't a human he could control with his charms.

"Oh, I just recalled our passionate past, sweetie. I hope you aren't mad or jealous about me and Debra?"

Envy swallowed. Debra wouldn't be her pick, but he could do whatever he wanted and with whoever he wished.

"To be jealous, first I'd have to desire you."

"Ouch. Don't you miss our little games?"

In her mind there was a sudden memory. Full moon high on the black sky as she was walking at the edge of the garden fence. The place which separated the grounds of the house from the small woods behind it.

"Having fun there?"

She turned around at the sound of Lust's voice. He was standing in the shadow of the house, handsome as always.

"Not even a little." She jumped off the fence back to the garden. "And you?"

"Me neither. It's so boring, waiting here until somebody new will move in."

They've sat on old, almost crumbling garden chairs and looked at the moon. The suburbs were so quiet at night. Another boring thing, because nothing was happening.

"Others don't mind it. Sloth is sleeping all day, trying out new places in the house and rating them, considering comfort and peace. Greed spends all days trying out new clothes, jewelry and all different stupid things she's so thirsty about. Gluttony checks out new recipes from the products he found in the basement. They probably have like fifty years because the whole house stinks."

Lust laughed at her words. That was the truth, but she made it sound quite funny.

"Don't forget about Wrath and Pride."

"Oh, yeah. They've won the award of most awkward non-couple. Satan should throw up a congratulations party in Hell if Wrath ever manages to pick up Pride." She pushed away the image of the two of them. "It's hard to even look at him when he tries. This actually requires a real conversation, not only staring plus saying she's the most beautiful and amazing girl in the underworld."

Lust couldn't stop laughing. He actually agreed on this one with Envy. Wrath knew how to wreak havoc, but with girls he was helpless.

Or rather with that one girl.

"You have a sharp mood today."

"Loneliness I guess."

He gazed at her with his dark mysterious eyes. Pride thought about herself as the most beautiful, but he actually liked Envy better. She had this hot and spicy aura.

"Maybe we could help with that?" His voice was deep and desirous.

The idea of two of them was growing inside her mind. She touched her scarlet hair thoughtfully and looked at Lust. Her lips felt chapped so she licked them with tongue.

"Maybe we could."

Getting hyped up, Envy slowly sat on Lust's knees. He caught her hips and moved closer, admiring her breasts. She licked his cheek, giving him goosebumps. Being together was wrong and that's why it felt so right. He wanted to have sex with her so badly and he knew she wanted that too.

And so there was no stopping them from what was about to happen.

Envy came back to reality. It was past and she had no feelings for Lust anymore. He surely must have known that, but it didn't stop him from playing games.

"We spent some great time together," she admitted. "But it meant nothing." There was a sudden bitterness in her voice at which he raised an eyebrow.

"So you do have a little grudge against me."

It was also her fault. Their romance lasted too long. She got herself wrapped in this stupid relationship, which in reality never existed. It was a surprise - the feelings she developed back then. But they were long gone now.

"I don't. Not anymore."

Laying in Lust's bed and waking up next to him was so sexy. But this time she was alone and took some time until he showed up. He had a big smile on his face but she wasn't the reason of it.

"Have you seen the new family, which moved in? The girl is hot. I have a feeling she's gonna fall for me real soon."

"What? Are you kidding me?" She sat on the bed and clenched her fists with fury.

He frowned, uncertain what he said so wrong that Envy looked like she was about to burn the whole house down.

"Is it about the thing going between us?" he guessed, surprised that Envy could be so unprofessional to take it seriously. "Chill out, it was only a game, right? We're not... Have you thought differently?"

The big wave of sorrow and realization flooded her as she understood that for Lust it was nothing more than an experiment. A way to get some fun while waiting for some interesting things to happen.

"Of course not, I was only playing to see your reaction," she lied.

The girl didn't have a long life and she didn't get a chance to fuck with Lust. Envy killed her out of jealousy.

And it took some time, but she got over him too.

"You're good at escaping from the main topic."

Lust made a face like he was about to throw up.

"Do you want to talk about Gregory too? This man makes me sick."

„No, I'll pass on that. Why? Because there's no way I could ever understand why you killed him. For years I wondered and I've realized that it wasn't out of jealousy." She knew that feeling way too well. Good enough to know that it didn't drive him. "You weren't jealous of Pride's love, of her happiness. Gregory was pretty much indifferent to you. So why did you kill him?"

"We're demons and-"

"Cut the bullshit." It was tiring to hear that excuse all over again. "Maybe one day you'll tell us the truth." She looked over her shoulder. "Debra's waiting for you." With a bitter-sweet smile on her face, she transported herself to the garden. It was unkempt and sloppy. Hailie probably wasn't even here since she moved in.

Sloth was snoring on the garden swing, but it didn't bother Envy. She came to the fence and looked in the sky, remembering another night of a full moon. The one she spent here alone.

With a slight longing that filled her body, Envy recalled the words she let sink into that night when she made a wish upon the shooting star.

"I wish for someone who would finally love me."
