Chapter Fifty Four: Decision Has Been Made
Pride was sitting at the table, holding an ordinary golden necklace in her hands. Her thoughts drifted far away, but she noticed Wrath right away, when he showed up. Finally, there was nobody else in the room with them. They had some time to talk about the kiss and many other things.
Wrath wasn't sure what Pride wanted. She was able to play it off, pretending that nothing happened. He was fine with whatever she decided to do. He loved her more than anything and he meant it, when he said that eternity isn't an obstacle. Not as long as he could at least look at her and talk with her as a friend. She meant a world to him.
"I've been thinking about the things you told me." They couldn't predict the future, but they could deal with the consequences. Nothing has ever stopped them. Everything was happening in the exact way they wanted it to happen. Hell was trembling upon them, even if it has been ages since their last visit there.
"What about them?" Wrath was eager to find out what Pride had decided.
"You really think we're more powerful than any other creature from Hell?" she asked with small amusement, because it was pure haughtiness to call themselves in a greater force than the Devil. But what if it had some truth in it? Could it be?
"There are seven of us. The original and most dangerous demons. Apart each one of us is just another bighead but together nothing can stand against us. It takes time to understand it. We're still separated, but at the same time we're closer than we've ever been."
He was noticing all the prejudices among them. Pride hated Lust, Lust had a regret for Sloth, Sloth felt left out, Greed seemed a little bit off lately and generally it was only Envy and Gluttony who had no problems with anyone, because he on the other hand was easily getting angry.
"I've got to admit. It'd be nice to leave this house. To see the world. To be free finally. We're trapped here or we can come back to Hell and be trapped there." And that was a bad idea.
"We could. All it takes is just a little disobedience." Wrath was more than sure that they could reverse the spell that keeps them on the grounds of this house. Nothing stood a chance against them. Why couldn't others see it?
"And a little courage." She finally looked him in the eyes. While Wrath seems tough, in his eyes there could've been seen softness, especially when he was staring at Pride. "Courage to do what we want." She leaned and kissed him delicately, making the most of this moment.
Most creatures from Hell would say that it was wrong, but for her that felt more than right. It was the best decision she could've made. She wanted Wrath, even though for some many years she couldn't see it clearly. They've belonged together. He was always there, when she needed him. He was more than just a friend and now it felt stupid that it took her so much time to realize this.
"Pride," he whispered her name with his breath taken away. Pride kissing him, it felt surreal, but it was reality.
"I think it's you who said that we belong together, but well, I kind of agree," she sweetly chuckled, touching his face and hair.
"We definitely belong together." He smiled and kissed her once again. Her lips tasted so delightful. It took many years, but it was worth the wait. For her, everything was worth doing.
They started kissing more and more, laughing at the same time with happiness in their voices. Everything suddenly became much more beautiful, like the world has changed in one second. The room was filled with bright light, coming through the window as they were busy with themselves. Wrath caught Pride and put her on his knees, taking time just looking at her. At his other half. The most beautiful, intelligent and caring girl in the world. He was seeing so many emotions written on her face, but there was this one, the most important one. He knew right away that Pride truly reciprocated his feelings.
"Pride," he said seriously, making her look at him with her eyes wide open. "I love you." He smiled with desire to say it over and over again. "I love you and it's the best thing I'll ever do. I loved you for centuries and I'll love you for eternity."
There were teardrops of happiness that appeared in the corners of her eyes. She wanted to hide her face, but Wrath didn't let her do it. She had nothing to be afraid of. In his eyes there was only certainty.
"I think I love you too," she whispered and hugged into him.
Pride could proudly say that she was lucky to be in love with her best friend.
They started touching each other and kissed some more. Hailie almost walked to the kitchen, but she slowly stepped back, seeing the demons together. She smiled and quietly got back to the hall. There were a lot of restaurants on her way to the college. She might buy something on the road. It was a better option than interrupting the lovely romance of Wrath and Pride.
She was about to go out, when Lucien came downstairs. He slowed down, when he saw her and the atmosphere became intense at once. They haven't seen each other since the kissing session in the living room. He was working when she was coming back home from college, so it's been more than a few days now. She moved away from the door and decided it was high time to talk about what happened.
"Lucien, about the other evening-"
"Can I go first?" His words took her by surprise. She had the whole speech ready in her head about how it was wrong and could never happen again, but now the sentences just disappeared. Once again she had no idea what to say, forgetting how to convey in words the things she had in mind.
"Sure." Now she needed some time to prepare the new speech.
He ran his fingers through hair as if he was nervous, and moved closer to Hailie.
"I admit, what happened between us was pretty unexpected, but I want you to know that I never tried to do anything against you. I'm not sure what's your attitude to this matter, I hope you don't feel like it was all just a mistake. I'll understand whatever decision you make. If you say it's better to forget and move on, I won't try to force you to change this decision, although I wish we could take things slowly and see where it takes us." He had this advantage that he knew what Pride told her. Now it was time to correct the wrong that was done. Hailie became suspicious about him. Moreover, she was sure that his feelings were dictated only by lust. How ironic. He was Lust.
She began to stroke her arm with her hand, thinking what to say. It was problematic. She was happy to have some days without having to talk about this matter but running away wasn't the best option. Now the time has come and it was hard to say all those things that were inside her mind. She didn't want to hurt Lucien.
"I, what happened, this thing between us, um, how to say it?" she chuckled nervously.
She was struggling with saying it right, so Lust took the chance to continue his speech, "I feel lucky that I'm living in this house, that I've met you here. I might not be seen as the perfect guy for an outstanding girl like you. I admit, my past is quite, eh, controversial. I want you to know that I'll never hurt you. I'm completely sure that what happened between us wasn't a mistake and it wasn't a moment of sudden passion. From my point of view, it was just something that was in the air for some time." Lucien was smiling so charming that Hailie felt weak on her legs. He was taking one step with every sentence, until he found himself in front of her. Only a few centimeters apart. "I can give you as much time as you need, because I know you're worth waiting for," he promised, not sure how he managed to say all those things. It was harder than he thought, but when he started talking, it came out naturally.
There was no denial that somehow, he cared for Hailie. He desired her. Every day without her touch and kiss seemed much longer than it actually was. All the time he had in mind that one evening of passion. He wanted to feel all those things again. He wanted to taste Hailie once again, to take her in his arms and feel her body next to his. It felt like he could do anything just to have her. At the same time he was afraid of where it was going. It was a dangerous game he was playing. There was still time to retreat, but it was too hard. The only way was to scare Hailie out of the house so he wouldn't have to see her every day, think of her every day, desire her every day. And even her leaving might be not enough to erase her from his memory. He wasn't even sure when it happened. When he started to care again about another human, who was so fragile, so easy to break. She was just another normal girl and yet at the same time for him she seemed somehow special. She even looked ordinary, but when he was looking in her eyes, when he was seeing her sweet nervousness, when she was smiling and even when she was crying, she was just beautiful.
He knew that it was wiser to give up. A relationship between a human and a demon? It couldn't work. Deep inside he knew that and yet he wasn't able to leave her alone. He was selfish in all this, because despite his words, sooner or later he was about to hurt Hailie.
And the most selfish thing was that he was aware of the ending of this story.
"Oh, Lucien." Hailie felt so lost. It was hard to decide, especially when she had feelings not only for him.
And knowing all the things she has known...But what if Pride was wrong? What if everything or at least most of it what happened between them wasn't because of Lust?
Both of them wondered if it was just pure sexual desire, what attracted them to each other. Or was it something more?
"Let me tell you one more thing." Lucien made another step, until there was no more space separating them. "Does it feel wrong?" He leaned to her and put a passionate kiss on her lips, before she had a chance to react. When Hailie felt his lovely lips tasting her own, she gave in completely. The tension left her body, making her relaxed and speechless with delight. She caught Lucien harder as if she was never going to let him go. As an answer he hugged her tightly, running his hands over her soft hair.
It didn't feel wrong at all, on the contrary, she was full of pleasure and joy. Hailie wished for that kiss to never end and yet after this moment of thrilling intimacy, she remembered not only Pride's words, but also her own confusion in thoughts and feelings. She pushed Lucien away, which caught him completely off guard. He didn't expect that at all, which was clearly visible in the disoriented look he gave her.
"You said we can take things slowly," she managed to find the right words. "Then let's not go too fast into anything. Time, Lucien, let's go slowly and just wait a little longer." She took a breath, still feeling his lips on hers. "I've got classes," she quickly mumbled and hung the bag over her shoulder.
He watched her leave the house, confused.
Honestly, it was hard to understand humans sometimes. Hailie desired him too. Why wouldn't she just give in?
"Let's take things slowly," he laughed like it was a joke, even though it were his own words.
He was not good at taking things slowly, that's for sure.
