Chapter Eighty Six: The One Who Rises

The hellish SPA was a marvelous place. All the candles burning around, creating a mysterious atmosphere, along with the statues glowing in the dark. The room was large, but she was the only visitor, since that was her right. There were servants ready to fulfill her every wish. Greed felt like a true queen, laying in a large hot tub with bubbles, holding a glass of champagne and having a bowl of strawberries in chocolate by her side. While being here, she thought that staying behind in Hell wasn't that bad after all. Sure, she was curious about the world, but she also loved comfort and luxury. Here she had it. Besides, she never visited all places in Hell anyway. Maybe she could make a tour around the place she's already in?

Having the best relaxation since years, Greed took another sip of the champagne and closed her eyes. She listened to the music played by the violinist, who was standing in the corner of the room. Greed wasn't too much interested in her story, probably another tormented soul, who made a deal in order to get fame. She was quite good, such a shame she ended up in Hell after all. At least she got to play for Greed.

The music suddenly stopped as the door swung open. Greed sighed, knowing that her relaxation was over.

"All out," Lucifer said calmly, making all servants and the violinist leave quietly.

Greed drank the champagne, admiring the Devil's torso. He wore black pants and a longer robe that exposed the chest. Although she felt a desire to invite him to join her, she played a cold-hearted bitch.

"What an unpleasant surprise," she welcomed him, which indeed was a bit true, because Greed was counting on a day in SPA. "Can't a demon even relax without being disturbed?"

Lucifer didn't look offended, as if he was used to Greed's mean comments. She was giving him a hard time since a deal to stay in Hell for freedom of other sin demons. Honestly, even she was surprised that Lucifer was taking it so calmly. He was in a way too good mood.

"I see you have a good time." He gazed around as if he wasn't in this room for a longer time.

Maybe that's how it was, since in the SPA complex there were around ten other rooms like that, or even better. But this one was Greed's favorite, known from the past.

The first SPA room was suicide hot blood, which worked well for the complexion, but it was thermal pools fed by hot streams that were Greed's favorite place. Modeled on the Roman baths of the tepidarium were even better. In Rome they didn't have that much gold and ivory. In Hell ivory is a desired item, because there are no elephants down here. That's why most of the rooms are decorated with tacky and cheap human bones. But not this one, this one was all about gold and ivory.

Hell's tepidarium had also a bar that surrounded the atrium with the best varieties of climbing vines. The image was completed by the statues of most important hellish dignitaries and mosaics, which, in Greed's opinion, cheaply made Lucifer look like a Roman patrician. From Greed's favorite room was a connection to another room, which was full of saunas, and was leading to the one with cold pools. That might've been one of not so many places in Hell that actually were really freezing.

Lucifer's favorite room, as Greed guessed, was far away from other rooms. It provided silence, which made it possible to organize orgy-like social meetings.

There was also an exquisite restaurant. It encompassed the outer ring of the building giving a great view of the Bloody Sea. On the terraces were mounted binoculars to watch the tortures of unfortunate souls. And it was close to the kitchen room, where not only spicy dishes were being served. Some of the souls working in the kitchen were doomed to peel onions forever and to shed tears that they never shed in their life. Greed wasn't a fan of spicy food, so she ordered fermented rattlesnake tongue with figs and wolfberry mousse earlier. It made her feel sad, because Gluttony was a much better cook.

"Had a good time," she corrected Lucifer with a sweet smile on her face.

"But then I came?" Greed didn't have a chance to finish, as Lucifer just told the rest of the sentence she had in mind. "Sorry for disturbing you, but I've come with the news." Greed yawned. "But if you're not curious," Lucifer said, like he didn't care, then he turned around.

"I'm curious," Greed replied quickly, because she knew that he would really leave. "Or maybe I already know?" Lucifer frowned, like it wasn't possible. "I heard you visited Death."

The Devil smiled. That wasn't the thing he wanted to talk about with Greed, but since she started this topic, he didn't see a reason why not to go deeper into it.

"You know? How did you find out?" He came closer, pretending to be astonished.

"I have my ways." Greed plunged a bit deeper into the water. She was dissatisfied because the bottle of champagne was empty.

Lucifer looked at the strawberries and champagne, before crouching down by Greed's side. Once again, she noticed that he didn't care at all. There was a cunning smile on his lips.

"I hope that these mysterious ways of finding out don't include Lust, who is currently residing in Hell and tormenting the soul of lately departed Jayson Larsen, thinking I don't already know about it. Well, a man must somehow throw all his anger out, after breaking up with that human girl." Lucifer shrugged. "I also hope that these ways don't include the note he tried to get to you with the help of one of his servants. That would be awfully not mysterious, if it turned out that I read the note and gave it back to the servant so he could sneak it to you, leaving you and Lust thinking that I won't find out about your stupid communication idea."

Greed rolled her eyes. They were trying only a little to keep it a secret, and now at least they knew that a note would not get in without Lucifer knowing about it. She didn't care that Lucifer read the note, because there wasn't anything important anyway. Lust was writing to her in the name of all sin demons, saying that they are thankful for her sacrifice to stay in Hell for their freedom. Yes, he wrote that Lucifer has met Death and that Death is still the keeper of the Spell Breaker, but that was all about that topic. Further, Lust was only saying that Jayson is dead, Hailie safe, Sloth on a journey to find his desired sleeping place and Gluttony on a crazy tour visiting every restaurant in the town. Just as Greed imagined it would be after granting them their freedom.

"I don't mind you knowing. That wasn't a secret."

"I must say, it made me realize that our new prince of Hell is quite" -he pretended to look for a world that wouldn't offend Lust too much- "not what I expected."

"And what did you expect?"

"Someone, who wouldn't be so scared of me to not even come and tell you all these things face to face." Lucifer stood up. Sometimes he felt really disappointed by the seven deadly sins demons. Like in the moment they thought that threatening him with using the Twin Blade would be a good idea. But at least, that was brave. Stupid, but brave. "I'm in a good mood, so I wouldn't even hold a grudge."

"Let me break the news for you. Lust isn't scared of you. He just utterly despises you. He won't come here, not even for me."

"Too bad. You're worth it."

For a moment there was a silence between them. Greed had a desire to invite him to join her in a hot tub, but she held her lips sealed. Once he would take off his clothes, she wouldn't be able to resist.

"Worth adoring, but not loving," she said, reminding him that he never loved her anyway. All these words he was saying, they didn't matter.

She didn't mind it that much. Not anymore. She was even in for casual sex, just not before she'll teach him to wait patiently. For all the things he has done, there wouldn't be a reward, not so quickly.

"Worth both."

Greed rolled her eyes. "Cool." Whatever he meant.

"Now dress up, we have a big night coming." They were looking at each other in the silence. "Are you waiting for something?" he asked, noticing that there surely was something Greed wanted.

"Yes. Turn around."

He raised his eyebrow, making her think that he looked sexy in everything he was doing.

"It's nothing I haven't seen before."

"Yes, but humans taught me that I have a right to privacy and that if I don't want you to see me naked, I don't have to show myself to you."

Honestly, she didn't mind Lucifer looking, but she just wanted to torment him a little bit more. Surprisingly, he turned around, not giving a comment to her words. Greed slowly got up and took a towel that was laying on the massage chair she was using earlier.

"What's the occasion for a big night, and what does it mean?"

Staying turned, Lucifer answered, "It's a banquet, here in my palace. I've invited all the most important entities. I even sent a word to your demon friends out there, but I doubt they'll come, since as you said, they despise me." He would laugh it off, but it was too childish to even think about their behavior for longer than a few seconds.

"What's the occasion?" Greed changed a towel for a robe.

"Must there be an occasion?" He smiled, hearing her chuckle. "I thought you would like a banquet, a dance. You used to adore them."

"I still do." They were so much better than human parties. She came to the Devil, and he turned, like he could feel her sudden closeness. "I'm glad to be invited. If you excuse me, I'll go find myself something to wear."

She wanted to pass him by, but Lucifer gently caught her by the forearm. She stopped, feeling invisible sparks between them.

"Take what's best," he proposed, like it wasn't obvious that she was always choosing only the best. "Because" -Lucifer made another step, so that there were only inches between them- "tonight I'm going to walk in with you by my side. And you're going to stay by my side the whole banquet so that nobody would have any doubt that I chose you for my companion."

She took a sudden breath and raised her eyes to look at him. She didn't expect that. She would never think about it. In the past, Lucifer never showed himself with her by his side.

"That's-"

"That's what you wanted, isn't it?"

"Yes," she said carefully, wondering if Lucifer thinks that this way, he'll melt her anger. "You're not ashamed to, aw!" she hissed, as he caught her tighter.

"I was never ashamed of you. And you can tell your sneaky and doubtful demon friends that I have better things to do than plotting a revenge on them in a moment, when we came upon an agreement. I do not break my word. They're free and believe me, my life is much more interesting than sitting and wondering how to bring them all down."

"I don't know when I'll meet them next time, since I'm trapped here with you."

Standing so close to him was messing up her emotions and a barrier she built between them. Especially now, when Lucifer told her he wants to show everybody that she has taken Lilith's place. That bitch will never come back to Hell, that's for sure.

"Might be sooner than you think. Or you can write to them. If you do, tell them that I keep my word. But if they ever try to get ahold of the Boundary Breaker and the Spell Breaker both, I'll destroy them. Just a friendly reminder, there is only one king of this place."

His eyes were calm yet determined. Greed wasn't ashamed to say that she loved other sin demons, but she always knew that they didn't stand a chance against Lucifer. Hopefully, neither of them was stupid enough to think differently. And even though they might've been afraid of what he was going to do next, Greed believed Lucifer. He wasn't a liar. If he said that he generally doesn't care, he meant it.

"Yes, king," she said mockingly, and he laughed, making her surprised again. "What's up with you today?"

He leaned to her and took a strand of her hair. "You know, there's only one king, but there could be a queen by his side." She frowned, not believing in this. There was never a queen of Hell. Lucifer had lovers, not wives. He was always the lone ruler. "If it turned out that you do know where the Boundary Breaker is, and if you told me that, then your position could change."

So that's what it's all about.

"It's a shame I don't know." She wouldn't betray Leah. Not ever. "Besides, on my time on Earth, I've heard that it's a sad marriage, the one without love."

Lucifer let go of her, but she didn't move. She felt hypnotized and it was hard not to hug into his dark, amazing body. And he knew about it. Moreover, seeing how she reacted to his words, he knew that there was a way to get through to her. She wanted to play a game, she shall have one.

"I think so too, but since we both loved each other, I believe we could find it again hidden deep within us. But for marriage there is needed loyalty and honesty. I will marry you, and make you my queen, the queen of Hell, if you show that you're loyal only to me." Greed parted her mouth, unable to say anything at his words. "I'll let you think about it," he said and stepped back, being the one to bring the distance between them again.

Greed thought that she could manipulate him? Play him? That's adorable. She was truly sweet, and Lucifer kind of adored that too. She was everything he desired, but he wasn't a fool who could be played around.

She made a move in his direction. "You said, we both loved each other. Loved. You said loved."

Lucifer frowned. "Did I?"

"Yes, you did."

He blinked a few times, like he was trying to remember if he really used that word. "Go and change, Greed. You have a big night ahead of you. And think about my offer."

He quickly left the hellish SPA. As soon as he walked away, the servants came back. They were ready to help Greed in everything she wanted. But her thoughts were drifting far away. Yes, she desired to be the queen of Hell, but it wasn't worth betraying her family and Leah. Besides, she never wanted to be the queen for the title. That was the problem. She wanted to be queen, because she loved Lucifer. She wanted him to choose her.

Greed loved Leah, but she started slowly realizing that she also loved Lucifer, even after all these years. That was scaring her the most. She didn't want to feel these emotions. She preferred to hate him. And it was easy outside of Hell. Being so close to the Devil, it was making it harder with every day. She didn't want to fall in love with him once again. One heartbreak was enough. But even another heartbreak wasn't the thing that was scaring her the most.

There wasn't a possibility she would sacrifice somebody she loved in order to gain power, position, or anything actually.

But there was no telling what she would do in the name of love.
