2. Propose Day

Adya hummed to herself as she settled the popcorn, pepsi, pizza and pepper on the table. She made herself comfortable on the couch of her living room and pressed the play button. Nothing like good movie. Dates may become boring, boyfriends may become unbearable, and husbands are anyway out of league so a good movie and food it was.

The Vow.

That was the movie Adya was watching. Aren't there times when all of a sudden you discover you love something that you had not a good opinion of in the past, something similar was the case for Adya and English RomComs. She somehow was not very much in favor of English romantic movies. She was so so wrong. However, now everyday at nine Adya treated herself with a movie. Given that her sister, Siya wasn't in town, it gave her full rights on the remote. For an odd reason, Siya only loved reality shows. While Adya was a movie person. Despite legally being counted as adults of more than the age of twenty one, they still fought, especially over the controlling rights on the remote.

Adya grinned as the couple in the movie shared an eye lock. The accident scene had made her jump out of her seat almost, luckily enough both survived. But the wife had lost five years of memory, partial amnesia. Oh, she hoped for a happy end. The popcorn forgotten, Adya feasted on the pizza. The guy was so tall and cute.

But on a side note, she felt these movie makers should be sued for showing men as caring, cute and doting husbands. Bullshit! Hers didn't even let her use the washroom first, when they were married. Obnoxious man.

The way the guy in the movie, whose wife had lost her memory, cared for the her, made Adya drool over their bond. Such couple goals.

"What!" She gasped as the guy in the movie walked into the washroom to witness his naked wife. "That's embarrassing." She remarked remembering a similar scene from her own life. Dhruv had once walked into the washroom but luckily enough she wasn't stark naked. It wasn't her fault; he was supposed to be at work at that time not barging into the washroom. In her defense, she had forgotten to latch the door not that she was afraid she would be locked into the space when she was home alone.

Her thoughts went to their meeting today. She smiled. She pressed the pause button and walked over to the kitchen to heat the remaining pizza. While the microwave was at work, she decided to quickly empty the covers. She was very lazy at this. She started stacking up the packets of pulses, spices, biscuits so on and so forth, continuously telling herself it would be over in a jiffy. She almost finished most of it when she stopped frowning. What the hell was that?

She brought out the suspicious box and dropped it shocked.

* * *

Dhruv leaned back on the recliner as he sat chit chatting with his cousin Yug. "I am so glad I made it in time."

"Yup. Rudra needs to be whacked when he gets back!" Yug added giving his painting the final touches.

"Can't believe he could do something as stupid as this. If he promised Priyanka he'd get her the things he should have. Can't believe he got himself into a date. " Dhruv spoke leaning back, smiling to himself.

"Well, Rudra says dates happen to him like rain in the Tropical Region. It's Valentine week, apparently he's in demand." Yug  sniggered, sending Dhruv into peals of laughter.

"Seems like you are in a good mood." Yug said very observant of the frequent smile that made it to Dhruv's face, every now and then.

"Why should I not be?" He countered.

Yug dipped his brush into the water container and turned to Dhruv. "You were literally forced to go supermarket shopping something you religiously hate."

"So?" Dhruv probed, remembering her glare. She definitely didn't like being at the supermarket. His eyes shone remembering her cute annoyed face.

"So. Something is wrong. If you are all smiles." Yug pointed out.

"You're simply over thinking, as usual", said Dhruv.

"Whatever!" Yug sighed turning away. Remembering something's turned back to face Dhruv, "Ahh, I had asked for something." He gave him a cue.

"Yep. It's..." Dhruv sat up suddenly shocked, he stared at Yug wide-eyed. "It's in one of the covers I gave to Priyanka," he shrieked.

"Jeez, tell me you're kidding." Yug spoke as he stood up from his seat with a worrying expression on his face.

"I wish I was." Dhruv spoke before dashing for the door. Yug smacked his forehead, following his brother.

"Hey," Dhruv uttered awkwardly peeking into his sister's room. "Two minutes." He said looking at her friends who giggled seeing him. Priyanka gave them a glare and walked out with her brother.

"What ?" She asked studying his brother's face and then looked at her cousin Yug who was approaching them.

"Ahh, the covers...There was something I wanted."

"Bhai, I emptied it all, there wasn't a thing that I hadn't asked for." She clarified impatiently.

"Are you sure, there wasn't anything?" Bafflement was evidently seen on Dhruv's face.

"What exactly are you referring to?" Priyanka asked exasperated.

"Uhh, nothing important." He stepped behind shrugging his shoulders.

Priyanka rolled her eyes. Her brothers could be impossible at times. "Can I go back?"

"Of course. Thanks. " he said turning to a visibly baffled Yug.

"Thank God, Priyanka didn't find it. Where did you keep it? You sure, you bought it in the first place?" Yug spoke as they began walking back.

"Of course... Oh no, how could I miss the possibility." Je spoke realization dawning, "Adya!" He exclaimed, the possibility seemed positive to him.

"Oh...what...Adya? Wait. You're seeing Adya again?" Yug's look was nothing different from that after having witnessed something scandalous.

"No.No. I am not seeing Adya. But I saw her."

"How is that related to this?" Yug asked puzzled.

"Because I might have slipped it in one of her covers when we were exiting the supermarket.

"Wait. You took Adya along?" Yug was confused with every coming piece of information from Dhruv.

"No. I met her there." Dhruv clarified.

"And you shopped together?" Yug asked.

"Yug, stop being a Rudra version two. We just billed together. Damn. Adya has it."

"That is umm...well. " Yug fell short of word.

* * *

Adya was red in anger. She picked up the box and kept it aside. She couldn't believe it. She was sure she hadn't picked it. So it had to be him. Gross. The man lied. He said he'd been shopping for Priyanka. Liar. When she used to ask him to accompany her for shopping he made a face ignoring her. Now?

Jeez, she hated him.

She was more frustrated at the fact that implied he was seeing other women. Why else would he need condoms? She stomped her feet, "I hate you, Dhruv. Ahh!"

* * *

Adya ran to the door, her hair was a unruly mess. Her living hall was akin. Scattered chips, empty pizza box, empty Pepsi bottles, carelessly thrown cushions. In short, something that would give competition to a Sunday market mess.

She opened the door to have a similar scent hit her nostrils. "Hi!" He smiled his eyes dazzling as he took notice of her. She didn't even look so bad after they had gone through a crazy banging session. He blinked pushing away not so decent thoughts about his ex-wife.

"What?" She narrowed her eyes at him. He looked utterly handsome. She hated the fact that he could make himself so presentable first thing in the morning. She wasn't a morning person, contrarily he was, had always been.

His eyes peeked inside having a good look at her living hall. "Had a party last night?"He kept his sarcasm to himself.

Adya followed his gaze and turned. " yep." What was his problem?

"Solo party huh?" He succeeded in controlling his laughter.

"Is that why you bothered me early in the morning? She asked folding her arms.

" Ahh, it's nine. Not early." He pointed out.

"For me it is." She replied curtly.

"Of course." He sighed looking away momentarily.

"I am sure you wouldn't come down to have this conversation..." she spoke wondering what brought him to her doorstep.

"Right. I assume you haven't emptied your shopping covers." He spoke each word slowly, his fingers crossed behind his back.

She glared at him. Leaving the door she walked into the kitchen and picked up the small packet she had left aside last night. Before heading back out, she quickly sent him some money through her ewallet. Walking out, she saw him scrutinize her living hall standing beside the sofa. She was sure he had mentally listed at least ten things that were wrongly placed in the past minute. Habits die hard

She walked up to him, pulled his hand, and placed the stupid box on his palm. He had the audacity to come asking for it. Yuck. Inside she sulked. Who was the woman he was with?

He stared at the thing on her palm, then looked up to find her glaring at him. Oh, she misunderstood, as usual. "Adya..."

"I guess we're settled. Door is right there." She pointed to the door and then folded her arms across her chest, waiting for him to make a move to leave. His gaze dropped down from her face, momentarily, before it went right back up to hold her gaze.

"This isn't for me." He spoke waving the box in the air.

"Of course. Priyanka I assume." She mocked, sarcasm dripping from her expression.

"Oh, shut up!"

"I am not a fool. Not anymore, at least." She said looking away. For an odd reason she felt terrible. He was in a relationship with another woman! How? She couldn't even look at another man the way she looked at him. Except a few dashing actors of course.

"Adya, You always assume." He spoke irritated reading her face.

"Don't confuse. Go. Bye. "She waited impatiently for him to make a move.

"This is for Yug." He clarified, further adding, "He was caught up yesterday and since I was anyway going to the market, he asked me to buy it."

"Right. Yug is married. I didn't know. Congratulate him on my behalf." Adya spoke mockingly.

"Can you stop being this impossible wife. It is for Yug. He's dating Isha."

She looked unconvinced. "Stop spoiling Yug's name."

"You're an impossible woman. Call him and ask, if you don't believe me. "

"You know what...I don't care. Just get moving." Adya replied annoyance getting the better door her. Was he lying or not?

He smirked stepping close. "You give a damn, Adya. For your information, just FYI, I haven't seen a woman ever since you left." His voice suddenly turned to softer at the end. His eyes fell on her parting lips. She stared at his chocolate brown eyes. It didn't look like he was lying.

"I need to get ready for the day. If you could stop..." staring at me like you want to kiss, "wasting my time," she spoke up irritated. Somehow, from past many days she had been rethinking over her past. It was better to cut off rather than kill, wasn't it? But she missed him, terribly. Funny, how his ever lasting annoying behavior and constant difference of opinions which caused them to part ways, now made her miss him.

She snapped her fingers before his lost eyes, ignoring the sudden tension that had come into existence.

" Right," he sighed. He missed her. Her untidy appearance, her untimely anger, her unthoughtful assumptions, her arguments everything. Did she not - miss- him?

He walked over to the door and giving her one last glance, headed out. He couldn't go through their messed up relationship again. They'd never be happy, they would only try to adjust and then complain. But he was willing to do that now, if that meant her presence in his life. Maybe the divorce wasn't the best idea. A year had been down. His life was great, much better than when she was around. Yet there was an emptiness, the one only she could fill.

* * *

Adya wanted to cry. She was so mad at herself. The thought of another woman in his life made her go bonkers. Thank God, he had clarified. Couldn't he always be like that- transparent -by clearing things. But, again today even in the short span of minutes he found time to taunt her. She didn't like it. Period. She liked being comfortable. She couldn't handle perfect things around her. It scared her, irked her. Was it so hard for him to understand? Of course. Perfection was bae for him.

She got up feeling bad about the not-so-presentable room and began clearing it. Minutes later the bell rang again. Who was it now? Whoever it was.. Had awful timing. She was in a mood to shout at anyone who came her way.

She opened the door irritation visible on her face.

"Hi again!" This time his voice was tensed, she noted. Despite his smile.

"What?" She frowned folding her hands. Was it a rose he wanted to give again? If yes, she'd literally go bonkers and pull his hair. He wasn't supposed to do things that made her regret her divorce.

"Ahh..."

"Dhruv. I am.."

"I need help!" He stated before she began arguing.

"What?"

"Ahh.."

"Oh, say it. I have work to do." She tutted. Like her work wasn't enough he was taking up so much of her mind space.

"I ... Umm, " he noted her exasperation. "Come with me to Goa."

"Huh?" She gave him a look.

"Look. Until yesterday Goa trip was a business meeting. But, Mom has other plans. She is all game for getting me hitched. You need to help me out."

Adya blinked.  "Go be a Mumma's boy, like always." She taunted. He wouldn't possibly given to his mother's matchmaking, would he?

"Adya!" He snapped.

"Mind your tone."

"Look Adya, I can't go through the entire madness again. Let's just pretend we're seeing each other again. Once we're back ...things go back to as they were."

"Why would I do that? I haven't been bitten by a mad dog!" She reacted.

"Adya, You will."

"What the hell do you think? I am not your..."

"Please."

"No."

"See..if you don't..."

"You'll what? "

"I will...

"Go on." Adya tried holding back her smile.

"Please." He pleaded.

"Give me one reason."

Dhruv looked thoughtful. "You get to go to Goa?"

She shook her head in disapproval.

"You.. You get to go on cruise?"

Adya twisted her lips thoughtfully and shook her head indicating a negative.

"What is your deal?"

She cleared her throat. " I will be the boss during the entire trip."

"What! No way!" He scowled at her.

"Fine." She shrugged her shoulders."Go hire a pretence girlfriend."

"You know, mom possess the power and mind to shoo her away."

Adya smiled. His mother was a badass woman sure."So?"

"You an I both know, only you can deal with mom."

Adya grinned, blowing on her nails. She was proud of that fact.

"God, so much attitude!" He commented arrogantly, admiring her inside his head.

"I am already late!" She declared, turning to go back.

He held her wrist before she could walk in, "Deal. "

"You will not argue and listen to what I say and I decide?" She put forth the condition looking at him pointedly.

"Anyways, you always did that." He replied.

She pulled back her hand, narrowing her eyes at him.

"Okay. Okay." He said raising his hands in defeat. "Proposal accepted?"

"Mail me the trip schedule." She tried not smiling. She was so excited about this. Exactly what she needed– a few days with him! That way neither would she feel she missed him, nor would she feel her decision to divorce was bad. She turned to get back to cleaning her living room.

"Adya!"

"Hmm!" She turned back to look at him.

"Happy Propose Day!" He winked.

She raised her brows- seriously? - "Bye Dhruv!"

Smiling to himself Dhruv left the front porch. Five days with her. He couldn't wait to see her again.
