Violet
Violet was the wanted child. My parents doted on her from the moment she was born. I was a mistake, a teenage fumble in the backseat of a car. But she was different.
In their eyes, Violet was perfect, and she was. We were opposites like salt and pepper, light and dark.
She looked like a beautiful doll with her soft brown hair, rich chocolate brown eyes, and pale skin with freckles.
I loved her, cherished her like my parents did until she stole Michael from me. I had loved him since I was six, and she took him away. Violet knew how I felt about him. I had told her often enough, but still, she took him.
Michael and Violet looked stunning together, two beautiful puzzle pieces fitting together. The thought of them marrying, having gorgeous children, and being happy made me curl up in a ball and die.
Many want to know whether she was alive or dead when I set fire to her. But I'll never tell.
I will never tell my parents what her last moments alive were like because I want them to suffer. For the rest of their lives, they will imagine the worse case scenarios.
They should have loved me as much as her. Nurtured me the way they did her. Maybe if they had, I wouldn't have turned out this way. Perhaps, I would have. We will never know.
I will always cherish the look of devastation on their faces when they found out Violet was dead. She was a crispy lump of flesh left in the middle of nowhere.
At this point, they had no idea it was me who killed her.
Two days after Violet's death I was pulled in for questioning. It was routine. I will never know why I confessed to everything that day. Perhaps, it was because I'd erased all the colours in the world until only black remained. Maybe I wanted the credit, and the attention I deserved. I don't know; different experts, say different things about me.
But you're not here because you care about me or why I did it. They are dead you, can't save them.
You're here because of the new darkness that has descended over the town; you think I know who it is.
You're right, I do. But I'll never tell you. Because for as long they kill my legacy of death and pain will never end Hannah. I'll always have a grip of terror over the town, none of you will ever be free of me.
