Setting The Wolf Free - Ch 13
Heyyyyyy everyone :) I'm very sorry for not uploading for so long, I just haven't felt like writing for awhile, but tonight I did :D
This Chapter is a little shorter than normal, which I apologise for, but I like where it ends :) And it was heaps of fun to write. It's a bit sad actually, I was rereading it, and giggled to myself quite a few times...... -__-
Don't judge me...
Pic of Kiba <3 --->
Third Person’s POV
Tsume’s hand twitches, as she reaches down and lifts her cup of coffee up from the table. Bringing it to her lips, she suppresses a snarl as she blows away the steam rising from the dark liquid.
As soon as she’d walked in the door early that morning, she’d smelt the scent of her lazy son and another person in the house. The woman was trying very hard not to just break his door down and drag him from his bed.
Tsume’s oldest child, Hana, sweat drops, reaching past her Mother and lifting an empty plate from the table. She deposits the crumb covered plate in the sink and begins washing it, her three beloved Ninken lolling lazily around her feet.
Hana and Tsume had just gotten back from their tracking mission that morning, and Hana could practically feel her Mother’s annoyance that Kiba was still in bed.
“He’s probably just tired from all the training I’m sure he’s been doing” Hana offers with a strained smile, placing the now clean plate in a drying rack.
Tsume snorts doubtfully, moving her coffee away from her mouth.
“I doubt that!” she barks loudly, narrowing her animal like eyes in the direction of Kiba’s room. “That kid’s such a lazy ass! He’s probably just trying to get out of training!”
“You know Kiba’s not like that Mother” Hana sighs, blowing a few loose strands of hair from her face and yawning tiredly. “He never shirks his duties…..Well, usually anyway.”
“Usually ain’t good enough!” Tsume snarls, gripping the handle of her coffee mug tightly. “If he doesn’t get his lazy ass out of bed soon, I’m either gonna go in there and drag him out, or I’m just going to throw all this food out.”
Tsume suddenly grins wickedly, making Hana sigh again.
“Actually, that’s a great idea” Tsume snickers, sucking down a mouthful of her coffee. “Teach that brat a lesson.”
“Whatever you like” Hana mutters defeatedly, heading down a small hallway. “I’m going to take a short nap before heading off to the Veterinary Clinic.”
Tsume nods, not having listened to her daughter at all. She was too busy grinning about her plan to make her lazy son starve.
Tsume’s eyes flick over to her huge Ninken Kuromaru, as he turns a corner and strolls into the room.
“Tsume” he addresses in a deep voice. “I keep smelling a strange scent in the house. Do we have a guest?”
Tsume shakes her head, before suddenly pausing.
“Actually” she corrects, slowly rising to her feet. “I think we do. I can smell someone else as well.”
Kuromaru sits back on the floor comfortably, watching Tsume with mild interest.
“Perhaps your son brought someone home?” he suggests, smirking slightly as Tsume’s jaw sets and her eyes narrow.
“He better not have!” she shouts, slamming her coffee cup down on the table and making some of it slosh over the rim.
She abruptly turns around and begins stomping towards her teenage son’s room.
“Kiba!” she shouts furiously. “Kiba, you little punk! You better be alone in that room!”
Tsume stops outside Kiba’s room and begins pounding on the door with her fist.
“I can smell someone in there brat!” she continues ranting. “I can’t believe you! What about that Ashley girl that you always used to talk about huh?! Kiba! Open this door before I break it down!”
Kiba sighs irritably, listening to his Mother crashing around the house in annoyance, ranting about his apparent laziness and whatever else she was saying.
Running a hand down his face, he looks down at the blonde still sleeping peacefully beside him.
‘Shut up Mom’ he thinks wryly. ‘You’re gonna wake Ashley up…..’
A tiny smile appears on Kiba’s face as Ashley sighs softly in her sleep, snuggling closer to him.
He’d been awake for hours, but hadn’t gotten out of bed yet for fear of waking Ashley up. He didn’t want her to wake up. She hadn’t slept in such a long time, and it was obvious that she really needed it.
“That kid’s such a lazy ass!” Kiba hears his obnoxious Mother bark from the kitchen. “He’s probably just trying to get out of training!”
The Inuzuka rolls his eyes, looking down at the floor as Akamaru whines softly.
“Don’t worry about that her buddy” he chuckles, winking at the sleepy Canine. “She’s just crazy.”
Akamaru remains silent, preferring to keep his thoughts on Tsume to himself. Snuffling quietly, the white animal tugs a cushion over his head, trying to block any and all sounds out. He was rather enjoying this sleep in. It was a very rare occurrence.
Kiba turns his head, looking back down at Ashley intently.
‘She looks so calm and peaceful when she’s asleep’ he thinks fondly, carefully brushing a few stray strands of her blonde hair back from her face. ‘You’d never know what a sarcastic little spit fire she really is….’
Kiba feels himself blanch, listening as he hears someone stomping in the direction of his room.
“Of course” he sighs, deadpanning as someone begins pounding on his door. “As subtle as a Rhino that woman….”
“Kiba!” an irritated voice from the other side of the door snaps sharply. “Kiba, you little punk! You better be alone in that room!”
Kiba rolls his eyes, before dropping a soft kiss on Ashley’s head and carefully pushing his blanket back. Climbing down from his bed slowly, so as not to disturb the sleeping blonde, Kiba heads for his door.
“I can smell someone in there brat!” Tsume’s angry voice announces loudly. “I can’t believe you! What about that Ashley girl that you always used to talk about huh?! Kiba! Open this door before I break it down!”
Tsume pauses in the middle of pounding on Kiba’s door, her fist still in the air, as Kiba opens the door slightly, an unimpressed look on his face.
“Kiba!” Tsume hisses, lowering her fist. “You little-”
“Shut up you crazy old hag!” Kiba whisper yells, glowering at his Mother. “You’re gonna wake her up!”
Tsume’s eyes widen, before a low growl escapes her throat.
“Her?” she repeats. “I knew it!”
Roughly shoving Kiba out of the way, Tsume kicks her son’s door wide open, making it slam against the wall with a loud crack sound.
Ashley suddenly wakes with a start, sitting boltright up as her eyes shoot wide open. She’d been sleeping quite peacefully, until Tsume had made her entrance.
“What’s going on?” Ashley mumbles sleepily, rubbing her eyes and trying to sit up.
“Mom!” Kiba yells angrily, jumping to his feet, an anime vein appearing on his forehead. “What the hell?!”
“I knew you had a girl in here you little man whore!” Tsume snarls, leaping at the bed and tearing at the blanket wildly.
“You’re gonna wake her up!” Kiba shouts again, slamming his face into his palm. “Ugh, too late!”
“Good!” Tsume retorts. “I hope the little bitch wakes up! Wake up girl! Sleepy time is over! I-”
“Huh?” Ashley asks, blinking a few times and focusing her gaze on the raging Inuzuka woman before her. “Tsume?”
Tsume freezes, eyes wide.
“Ashley?” she asks, before a wide grin spreads across her face and she places a hand on her hip. “Well well, looks like my son isn’t quite the womanizer I thought he was turning into after all!”
“W-womanizer?” Ashley asks nervously, sending a worried look over at Kiba.
He sweat drops, giving Ashley an awkward smile.
“The crazy woman thought I had some other girl in here” he explains to the half awake girl, making her nod slowly.
“It’s good to see ya again!” Tsume barks brightly, her demeanour having completely changed at the sight of the blonde girl she’d grown to like. “I hope you’re not pregnant though. I ain’t looking after no grandkids!”
Ashley’s eyes widen as her face immediately burns red, making her gaze drop down to Kiba’s bedspread.
“Mom!” Kiba roars, more anime veins appearing on his reddening face. Whether his face was red from anger or embarrassment, Ashley wasn’t sure.
“What?!” Tsume snaps, turning to glare at her fuming son.
“Get the hell out!” he commands, making the woman laugh and cross her arms stubbornly.
“You don’t boss me around kid” she sneers tauntingly. “I’m way above you on the pecking order. I’m leaving because I want to, not because my lazy punk of a son told me to.”
Sending Ashley a quick wink, Tsume turns around and marches from the room, shouting something about having to go and see the Hokage about her earlier mission.
“And Ashley’s not pregnant you delusional nut job!” Kiba shouts after his Mother, making Ashley turn and bury her burning face in a pillow.
How she was hoping that no one outside could hear what these two were saying……
Both Ashley and Kiba wince as they hear a quick succession of loud smashes and crashes from the kitchen.
“That was me throwing breakfast on the floor!” Tsume bellows in a snarky tone. “That’s what you get for being a lazy brat Kiba! No breakfast!”
Kiba groans, running a hand down his face wearily.
“It’s too early for this” he sighs, slowly looking at Ashley and raising an eyebrow at her. She continues staring at the digital clock in her hands, taken from the bedside table next to her. She has a blank, still look on her face, eyes unblinking as she stares at the numbers in front of her.
“What’s up Angel?” Kiba asks curiously, making the girl look up at him lividly.
She holds up the clock, showing Kiba the time.
“It’s only eight thirty” she says lowly, gripping the clock tightly and trying her hardest not to crush it in her hands. “It’s not that late at all.”
Kiba smiles wryly at the blonde, shrugging a shoulder.
“That’s my Mother for you” he chuckles humourlessly. “She crazy.”
Ashley groans, flopping back onto the bed and covering her face with her hands. All she wanted to do was go back to sleep!
“Hey Angel?” Kiba asks carefully, immediately making Ashley suspicious.
She peeks at the brown haired boy through a crack in between her fingers.
“What?” she asks guardedly.
“You’re a good cook right?” Kiba asks innocently, smiling a charming smile.
Ashley sits up in bed, giving Kiba a deadpan look.
“Wanna make breakfast?” Kiba asks hopefully, before receiving a pillow to the face and falling over backwards.
“Take that as a no” Ashley says dryly, unable to hide her smirk as Kiba lifts the cushion from his face and pouts.
“C’mon” he whines. “You’re having my children and you won’t even make me breakfast?”
Ashley feels her cheeks heat up again, much to Kiba’s delight. He thoroughly enjoyed teasing her, seeing as she still didn’t seem too comfortable with really expressing her feelings. Or having feelings expressed to her.
Kiba climbs to his knees and leans on the edge of the bed, chuckling.
“I’m just kidding Angel” he laughs, eyes twinkling mischievously. “C’mon! Get up! We’re going out.”
Ashley’s head snaps up to look at Kiba as he begins frantically scurrying around, apparently looking for a shirt and his leather jacket.
“Where are we going?” she asks, giggling at the annoyed expression on Kiba’s face when he sees that Akamaru is using his jacket for a pillow.
“Akamaru!” he shouts, tugging on one sleeve of the jacket, trying to pry it from underneath the large animal’s head. “Gimme my jacket dammit!”
“Ruffff…..” Akamaru sighs, lifting his head suddenly and making Kiba crash to the floor.
Ashley bursts out laughing, trying to cover her mouth with her hands when Kiba jumps to his feet and sends her an accusing look.
“Well, somewhere we can get breakfast” he eventually explains, dusting of his jacket and pulling it on.
Ashley’s eyes light up.
“Like…..like a date?” she asks hopefully, looking over at Kiba shyly.
Kiba pauses, before grinning and sending the blonde a cheeky wink.
“Exactly like a date!” he laughs, making Ashley smile happily. “But you gotta hurry up and get out of bed!”
“Okay, okay” Ashley sighs, reluctantly flinging the warm blanket back, pulling a face when the cool air hits her. “Just give me five minutes.”
“You don’t need five minutes Angel” Kiba says slyly. “You woke up beautiful!”
Ashley blushes, reaching down and pulling on her long black boots.
The random times Kiba would say things like that always caught her off guard. In fact, he was pretty much the only person that could make her feel nervous, and she was usually quite fearless.
“Oof!” Kiba grunts, falling to the ground as he is hit in the face with another pillow.
“Shut up Mutt….” Ashley mumbles, grinning broadly to herself.
Ashley’s POV
“-And we all used to pool our candy together” Kiba continues talking, eyes sparkling as he eagerly explains a child hood memory to me. “Then Shikamaru, being the lazy ass that he is, used to time us and we’d race up the mountain and see who could reach the tree first. I always used to win.”
I look up at Kiba and give him a strange look, fighting down a smile.
“You guys used to race for candy?” I ask, tilting my head. Kiba laughs, nodding his head.
“Yeah” he confirms, smiling his perfect, cheeky smile. “It was great motivation, especially for a fat ass like Choji.”
“Kiba!” I admonish, laughing at the same time. “That’s terrible!”
Kiba looks down at me, smirking.
“Maybe, but it’s true Angel” he says slyly, leaning down and suddenly grabbing my hand. “And you know it.”
My laughter ceases, my body automatically going rigid as I look down at our hands. I’m obviously not the most loving person in the world, and I realise that it’s pretty normal for couples to hold hands. But me? Holding hands with Kiba? And in public? What has happened to me?.......
I feel my heart beat speed up slightly, my face warming up as Kiba notices my reaction to him grabbing my hand.
He looks down at me curiously.
“Are you okay Angel?” he asks. “Do you not want me to hold your hand? If it makes you uncomfortable, we don’t have to…..”
I blink in surprise, hearing the slight tone of hurt and disappointment in his voice. Did it really mean that much to him to hold my hand?
Taking my silence as a negative answer, Kiba immediately releases my hand, sending me a sad smile and continuing to walk.
“We still gotta find somewhere to eat” he says quietly as I look at my hand, not liking that his is now not in it.
“Hey!” I exclaim indignantly, making Kiba turn around and glance at me.
I dive forwards, linking my hand with his, and hugging his arm with my free hand.
“You’re not psychic” I grumble, looking down at the ground in an attempt to hide my blush. Dammit he makes me blush a lot.
“Don’t make my decisions for me” I add, feeling Kiba’s eyes on me.
I pretty much feel Kiba’s mood lift, obviously happy with my decision to keep holding his hand.
“Hey, have you gone to Yakiniku Q since you got back?” he suddenly inquires, making my head snap up.
“No….” I say softly, looking up at Kiba with pleading eyes.
He begins laughing, dragging me along as he turns and strides in the direction of my absolute favourite restaurant.
“Let’s go then!” he cries excitedly, me running along beside him.
Kiba sits down in the booth, sitting across the table from me and sliding a menu over to me.
He pauses, seeing the pout on my face.
“Hey, what’s the matter Angel?” he asks worriedly. “I thought you loved this place?”
“I do….” I reply, gazing at Kiba from across the table. “I just….”
I suddenly stand up and remove myself from my seat, before marching around the table and sliding into the chair next to Kiba.
Kiba blinks in surprise, looking down at me and making me stare down at the table in embarrassment.
“Phew!” he exhales, chuckling nervously. “I though you were leaving there for a sec! What’s going on?”
I shrug, drawing an invisible picture on the table with my finger.
“I just……didn’t feel like sitting so far away from you….” I murmur shyly, before peeking up at Kiba hesitantly.
I pause, feeling my face heating up for the millionth time in the last twenty four hours as Kiba looks down at me, a soft, affectionate smile on his face.
“You’d rather sit beside me?” he asks, making me look back down and nod once.
“Well, I haven’t seen you for so long” I mutter, suddenly finding my left hand holding onto his arm tightly. “And I just…..Oh, I don’t know……”
Kiba chuckles gently, moving his arm so that he’s now holding my hand instead, linking his fingers with mine.
“Angel?” he asks, making me look up.
“Mm hm?”
“I love you” he informs me lightly, making me smile.
I haven’t heard those words for so long, and I can’t even begin to describe how good it feels to hear them coming from his mouth again.
“I love you too” I reply quietly, closing my eyes as Kiba leans down and places his mouth on mine.
‘FINALLY!’ I can’t help screaming internally, that amazing feeling of warmth and tingles spreading through my body as Kiba kisses me softly.
“Ahem…” someone clears their throat awkwardly, making me jump and hurriedly lean back from Kiba.
“Are you ready to order?” a waiter asks, his eyebrow raised as I hang my head and stare at the table, which is suddenly absolutely fascinating.
I feel Kiba laugh, before coolly placing an order and handing our menus to the stiff, unimpressed waiter.
“That was so embarrassing…..” I complain, making Kiba laugh again.
“Nah, I don’t think so!” he grins, elbowing me playfully. “At least now he knows you’re mine.”
I give Kiba a deadpan look.
“He’s gotta be like fifty Kiba” I say dryly, making the Inuzuka shrug as he places his other arm across the back of our chair comfortably.
“Doesn’t matter” he says airily. “Guys don’t care about age Angel. We’ll perve on any girl.”
I send Kiba a dark look, eyes narrowed and jaw set forwards.
“What?” I ask sharply, making him sweat drop and blink a few times, realising his mistake.
“When I say we, I’m not including me” Kiba corrects himself hurriedly, looking down at me in a panic. “You’re the only one I perve on, I swear!”
I raise an eyebrow at Kiba, an evil smirk crawling onto my face.
“Just keep digging yourself deeper Kiba” I chuckle lowly. “If you really think it’s a smart idea.”
Kiba sighs, head hanging in defeat.
“You know what I mean……” he mutters, making me giggle.
“Hey…” I say, as something suddenly occurs to me. “Where’s Akamaru?”
Kiba freezes, before quickly glancing around and smacking a palm to his forehead.
“Dammit!” he barks. “We left Akamaru back at my house!”
I shake my head, making a tutting sound.
“How cruel” I muse, earning a dirty look from Kiba.
“I’ve never forgotten him before” he argues. “It’s probably just coz you’re back. You’re screwing up my brain!”
“Can’t screw up what isn’t there” I mutter teasingly, earning myself a glare from Kiba.
“You know that I’m paying right?” he questions.
“Yeah, and?” I challenge, returning his determined stare.
“Better watch yourself or I’ll make a run for it and leave you with the bill” he smirks, giving me a triumphant look.
Jerk.
I shrug uncaringly, sending him a coy smile and hooding my eyes.
“That’s fine” I say breezily. “I’ll just order two of everything on the menu and give the waiter all of your details, so he knows who’s really paying. He’ll especially believe me if I squeeze out a few tears and feed him some sob story about my boyfriend cheating on me.”
Kiba blinks.
“Dammit” he sighs. “You win.”
“Of course” I say brightly, giving Kiba a closed eye smile.
Kiba and I continue talking away, right up until our absolutely lovely waiter brings our orders for us.
Placing the plate of long beef strips down in front of me, the waiter straightens up and sniffs.
“Will that be all then?” he asks boredly, watching with disdain as my eyes sparkle at all of the meat before me. “No more food?”
My neck wrenches around and I glare at the man, baring my teeth.
“Get lost ass wipe!” I command, making the man’s eyes widen. “Let us eat in peace!”
“Excuse me Miss” he argues haughtily, returning my glare. “But you will not speak to me like th-”
“Manager!” I suddenly shout, making the waiter freeze. “I wanna speak with the Manager about his terrible wait staff right n-mmph!”
I am cut off as the frantic waiter claps his hand over my mouth in an attempt to keep me quiet.
By this point, Kiba has absolutely lost it, and is laughing his head off in the chair beside me. Fat lot of help he is.
“Please don’t make any more of a scene Miss” the waiter hisses lowly, waving casually with his free hand as some curious customers turn around to see what all the fuss is about.
“Please don’t speak to my Manager” he begs quietly, sweat beginning to drip down his forehead. “I’ll get fired and- OWW!”
The annoying waiter reels back from me, hugging his hand closely to his chest and gazing at me incredulously.
“Yuck” I mutter, shaking my head, before happily throwing a few pieces of meat onto the barbeque in our table.
“Excellent!” Kiba barks, also placing some food onto the barbeque.
Kiba nudges me after a few moments, subtly motioning towards the waiter with his eyes.
I bristle internally, just wanting to enjoy the smell of my meat cooking without having an audience.
“Why are you still here?!” I suddenly explode, making the waiter jump in fright.
“You….You bit me” he blubbers, still sounding quite shocked.
I shrug, leaning my elbow on the table and glaring at the man nastily.
“So?” I challenge, clenching my hand into a fist. “You’re job’s done, time to GET THE HELL AWAY FROM US!”
Kiba bursts out laughing again as the panicked, and slightly confused, waiter turns around and scurries away, stumbling across the floor like the fool that he is.
Satisfied, I turn back to my meat, eyes lighting up with delight when I see that it’s cooked to perfection.
“Yay!” I cry, hurriedly cracking my chopsticks apart and picking up a slice of beef.
I place it in my mouth, a closed eye smile on my face as the delicious flavour of the meat delights my very happy taste buds.
“You’re crazy Angel” Kiba chuckles, shaking his head and picking up a piece of meat as well.
I shrug.
“That’s part of what makes me so loveable I guess” I say, before suddenly pausing. “Actually, considering what just happened with that waiter, I don’t think I’m really all that loveable.”
“True” Kiba agrees brightly, making me giggle.
“Careful Kiba” I say warningly, reaching forwards for another piece of meat. “Or I’ll bite you as well.”
“Yeah, but I’ll just encourage it” he shoots back easily, leaning back in his seat and sending me a cheeky wink.
I scrunch up my nose, contemplating flinging a piece of the hot meat at his face, and then deciding otherwise. Not for his sake though. I just really don’t want to waste a good piece of food on him.
“You’re sick” I say instead.
Kiba and I continue eating, switching between happy banter and what I’m going to call playful abuse, when something suddenly catches my attention.
“What’s wrong Angel?” Kiba asks as soon as I freeze.
I hold up my hand for silence, eyes wide open as I strain to hear.
‘That voice……’ I think slowly. ‘It sounded so….so familiar…….But it’s hard to hear with everyone else around here talking as well…..’
“Ange-”
I cut Kiba off by placing my finger on his lips, still staring straight ahead.
“Be quiet for a second” I say softly. “I’m listening…..”
“Village……awesome…..I can’t wait to…..She’ll be so surprised!”
I can hear the voice getting closer to us, allowing me to catch more of the conversation. I know this voice.
“I can’t believe how huge this Village is!” the excited female voice cries. “I had no idea she was living in a place like this!”
“Honestly, you’re making such a scene……” another, calmer voice sighs, just about making my heart stop.
“Yeah man….You’re staring to like, give me a headache and stuff…..” an airy voice agrees.
“Awwww, look at all the little kids!” a young sounding voice coos. “They’re all so cute!”
I suddenly crawl across Kiba’s lap, disregarding his surprise as I stick my head out of the window next to him.
I can’t suppress the loud gasp that escapes my lips. I knew it! But it’s just too good to be true!
“Yo Susia!” I shout out of the window, making a few heads turn around in confusion. “Tanne!” (Yo Wolves! Over here!)
Nine heads turn around, as I hang out of the window, waving my arms like crazy.
“Ashley?!” the girl with black and white hair screams, spotting me first.
“Huh?” the blonde girl says, before turning around and spotting me as well. Her dark eyes widen at the sight of me, making me smile broader.
“What’s going on Angel?” Kiba asks, before I suddenly leap out of the window and run towards the nine familiar faces.
“Ashley!” the first girl to spot me screams again, running towards me with her arms open.
“Saffire!” I cry as we crash into each other, wrapping our arms around each other in a fierce hug.
