The Christmas Party.
((I FINALLY PULLED MY ACT TOGETHER AND DREW SOMETHING WHOO Although this never happens, it was really cute and I had to draw it.))
Vincent knocked on the door of Scott's house. It was a cool December night. Not cold enough for snow, yet, but there was a cold breeze and frost on the grass. The party started in about fifteen minutes. He hoped Scott was ready to go.
The door opened and Scott appeared, wearing casual clothes, "Hey, Vincent - Oh my gawd, you're actually wearing it."
Vincent grinned, stretching both arms out and doing a little pirouette, "What do you think?"
"You look like a skittle," Scott said, "A rainbow reindeer skittle."
Vincent stopped spinning and shrugged, "Taste the rainbow, indeed. Wanna lick it?"
"Ew," Scott stepped out of his house and closed and locked the door behind him, looking unimpressed, "No thanks."
"Oh well," Vincent said, "Guess you can just lick yourself. After all, we're rainbow in spirit, hm, Scott?" He jumped off Scott's porch and hopped into the driver's seat of his car.
Scott followed after, sliding into the passenger's seat, "Um, actually, Vincent... can you... can you not... talk about that? I mean, around my friends. It's just... a lot of them don't know..."
Vincent looked at Scott, his eyebrows raised, "Oh come on, you're not even going to come out to them? Your sister's going to be there, right? You're not going to come out to her?"
"I-It's not that, I just..." Scott shrugged, looking away, "I think I should wait for the right time."
Vincent tsked, starting up his car and beginning to drive towards Mike's, "If there's one thing I've learned, if you keep waiting for the 'right time' to come out, it'll never happen. You should be proud of who you are!"
Scott shrugged again, falling silent and refusing to answer. Vincent took that as an invitation not to push the subject any further. Nice way to start off the night, genius.
"Well, that's okay," Vincent said, "You take your time, Scott. I understand."
Scott looked over at him, then smiled a little and relaxed into the car seat, "Thanks."
The rest of the car trip was silent. Vincent's mind was whirling. This was definitely not good for his plan. Scott didn't want to come out as gay to anyone, which meant almost certain rejection if he put himself out there.
"Vincent-" Scott shouted a warning, then sighed, "You just drove past Mike's house, you idiot."
"Oh, right," Vincent slowed down, then parked along the road.
Scott rolled his eyes, then hopped out of the car. To be honest, he was really nervous about this whole thing. Especially Vincent being there. If he started flirting with him, or worse, his sister, he might never be able to go outside again.
Vincent appeared, carrying a few little neatly-wrapped parcels.
Scott blinked at them, then stopped walking and mentally slapped himself, "Agh- I didn't get presents for anyone!"
Vincent stopped walking as well, turning back to Scott, "Eh, that's fine. I doubt most people will have them, anyway..."
"No," Scott said, "But, what if people got presents for me? I won't have anything to give back! Wait. Did you get a present for me?"
"Um," Vincent looked at the topmost parcel, "Of course..."
Scott's eyes widened, "Oh, damnit. Um... I guess I owe you one?"
"I guess you do," Vincent grinned, then kept walking towards Mike's house.
Scott skipped to catch up, following beside him until they reached the front door, which had a green and red wreath on it.
Vincent knocked, and a second later, the door was thrown open. Loud music and light spilled out onto the street.
"Well, well," Mike said, "Looks like Vincent scored himself a date after all."
Scott's eyes widened, "Wait, what?" He laughed, "No, I'm not here as Vincent's date. We just... came together."
"Isn't that technically a date?" Mike asked, his eyes narrowing. But then he shrugged it off, stepping aside to let Vincent and Scott in.
Scott walked inside, shoving his hands into his pockets.
"So," Vincent said, walking beside him, "Do I get to meet your sis'?"
"No," Scott replied shortly, "No, you definitely do not. In fact, it would be nice if you could stay away from my friends in general."
"Ouch," Vincent said, "Good to know you're not embarrassed to be around me."
Scott looked at him, "I'm sorry, it's just..."
Vincent wasn't focusing on him, though. He was focusing on a small girl who was stalking up behind Scott. She had blonde hair and a woman's body, but apart from that, she was pretty much Scott.
"...can't risk you letting slip around my frien-aaAAh!" Scott yelped as the girl tackled into him from behind. She spun him around and grinned.
"Scotty!"
"Oh, hey Lindie!" Scott grinned, and the two siblings hugged each other.
"Who's your friend?" Scott's sister asked, with one arm around his shoulders. They were exactly the same height and everything.
"Oh," Scott made a forced grin, and tried to send a mental message to Vincent. No funny stuff! "This is my... my..."
"Co-worker," Vincent grinned his charming smile, holding out a hand to the girl, "Vincent."
"I'm Linda," Linda grinned cheerfully back, grabbing Vincent's hand in both of her own enthusiastically and shaking it.
Vincent pursed his lips and examined the two, narrowing his eyes.
Here it comes, thought Scott. He and Linda shared knowing glances.
"Same height. Same eyes. Same thin frames. Same noses. Same faces.. You guys are twins?"
"Perhaps," Scott and Linda said together, which was all they ever said when anybody asked that.
Vincent shook his head slowly, "You intrigue me more and more as time goes on, Scott."
"What about you?" Linda asked, "Did you get a body tattoo? Eye contacts? How come you're purple like that?"
Scott gave Linda a nudge, mortified, but Vincent grinned, "I was a grape once, but an evil witch turned me into a human."
Linda giggled, "Wait- then, do you bleed wine?"
"Why don't you bite me and find out?~" Vincent asked, licking his teeth. He was looking at Scott, though.
Linda's eyes shot open, she hid her rapidly flushing face behind Scott's shoulder, "Oh. Oh my."
Scott mentally kicked Vincent right where it counted. The one thing he didn't want him to do. Flirt with his twin sister, "You'll have to excuse him," Scott muttered, "He doesn't have a filter on his mouth."
Vincent grinned, "My apologies. Would you two like a hot chocolate? I might go hunt down Mike and see what I can find."
"That would be nice," Scott said.
"Are you single?" Linda asked.
"Lindie!" Scott hissed at her, "There is no way you're going to start-"
"Actually," Vincent interrupted, "I am single. But I consider myself taken. I've got my eye on someone at the moment..."
Scott hoped Linda didn't notice his face heat up a little at the comment.
"Aw, that's so cute!" Linda cooed. "What's she like?"
"She's perfect," Vincent said. "She's funny, and cute, and - between you and me - not lacking in the looks department, either. Actually, she kind of looks a lot like you..."
Scott laughed nervously, "Oh, come on... we didn't come here to hear about your little crush..."
"Don't be like that, Scott!" Linda hugged his arm, smiling at Vincent, "I bet she's great! Got any plans to make the big move?"
Scott tried not to look interested, but his ears perked up, trying to listen to Vincent's reply.
Vincent sighed, "Unfortunately, she doesn't seem very interested. I can respect that. I wouldn't be interested in a purple pervert like me, either. But, maybe one day..."
"I'm sure it'll turn out fine," Scott said quietly, feeling guilt pile onto him like a ton of bricks. He knew he had to get out of this situation, "Oh, hey, is that Fritz? Linda, I gotta introduce you to Fritz. Come on..."
Vincent sighed as Scott and Linda disappeared into the crowd. Scott really was uninterested. This entire plan was totally going to waste.
